I'm looking to replace 2 HP laptops - neither of which I'm fond of, though these specs seem pretty good.

I am not sure which thread you are talking about.
Never mind, I found the thread you are referring. Well that is a configurable Laptop and I made some different setup, apart from the 4K screen.

Thank for posting this possible configuration. I've really needed a laptop with a 4k/17.3 inch display for work and am strongly considering this one.

Only serious reservation I have is the durability issue with HP Pavilion. Not as sturdy as business laptops (but those with these specs go for twice the price usually).

Interesting option for some of us!

This model is not the cheap HP Pavilion series, this is the new GP Pavilion Gaming series laptop, launced in this year only and it has pretty solid reviews. here is one review, of the model with i5-6300HQ and 1080P Panel.H

The chassis is similar for all these 17t models, only the internals and display is updated in the deals I have posted.

$630 for the i5 and 1080p model...good deal, very tempting. Think I'll wait for the 1050 to come out though.

Pavilion is trash. I have the Envy 15 and its the only thing I've found that comes close to matching a MBP in quality.

Like will all companies they have a low, med, and high end each other which are entirely different from anoutber. Judging a company based off any of these things is something you shouldn't do.

The 1xxx video cards are needed for VR, even the 970 cards will be "low end" soon enough.

Need some advice, feedback, and answers.

(1) I ordered as described in this post. Had some issues - so called HP Customer Service,

(2) Customer Service was very helpful. Used 3 $250 gift cards and the balance on a credit card.

(3) CS Rep said the order sent through and gave me a confirmation number, The receipt gave October 14, 2017 as the completion date and said delivery would be 2-6 days afterward.

(4) I just received this email from HP:

********************************************
Dear XXXXX,

• Your order number is XXXXXXX.

The HP.com Store has not processed your order and will not charge you for this transaction, however your financial institution will have a hold placed on your account for the amount of the purchase. This is standard practice among financial institutions and the hold releases within a few days as it is only a reservation of funds. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your interest in HP products. HP products are also available at local retailers.

Declined

Payment information

You have not been charged. Your financial institution may have a temporary hold on your account for the amount of the order. This is standard practice among financial institutions. The hold is a temporary reservation of funds and will release within a few days.

*************************************************
Questions:

(1) What did you do and/or what did the HP say when you called in to ask about why the was declined

Example Answers:
- Operator said go pound sand. I asked to speak with a supervisor, who processed my order as a ONE TIME Exception.
- My order went through no issues.
- Operator processed my order after calling in to complain. Operator apologized for the hick-up in the system.
- Operator said she could do nothing and recommended I look at other laptops.

THANKS ALL. I tried calling HP but they are closed on Sundays so I need to wait until Monday. Also, now I have $750 of unused HP gift cards.
