Link Your SPG and Marriott Accounts To Transfer Points, Match Elite Status, And Take Advantage Of Each Program’s Strengths!

https://www.starwoodhotels.com/pr...erredguest

Marriott completed their buyout of Starwood today and you can now transfer Starpoints to Marriott Rewards points at a 1:3 ratio and Marriott Rewards points to Starwood at a 3:1 ratio. The minimum amount of points that can be transferred are 1,000 Starpoints into 3,000 Marriott Rewards points and 1,000 Marriott Rewards points into 333 Starpoints. There is no maximum amount of points and you can continue to transfer points back and forth at will.

Both your Marriott and Starwood accounts remain separate, but they now have the ability to transfer points back and forth at will.

-If you have Starwood Gold status you’ll be matched to Marriott Gold.

-If you have a Starwood credit card you’ll be matched to Marriott Silver.

-Matching also works the other way, Marriott Platinums will get Starwood Platinum and Marriott Golds will get Starwood Gold.

-If you have United Gold status or higher you can get Marriott Gold which will also get you Starwood Gold.

-If you have Starwood Platinum Status you can match to Marriott Platinum which will also get you United Silver status!

The combined company will be called Marriott International. All 30 hotel brands are being kept for now and you can view them here.

The ability to transfer points back and forth make this a time where you can get amazing value out of your Starpoints and Marriott Rewards points. The Starwood and Marriott programs will exist on their own until 2018, at which point they will be merged into a combined program with 1 award chart. But for now you can take advantage of the best of both of their award charts.

This is a great way to spend my relatively useless Marriott points. SPG transfers to far more programs. Though 3:1 is kind of a painful ratio -- clearly Marriott understands the value of the SPG program by pricing it that way. The automatic SPG status match to my Marriott status was a nice bonus, though.

Thanks OP. I have about 10K Marriot points that are good for nothing. At least those will give me a free night at a Cat 2 SPG hotel

I finally transferred out my useless Marriott points to United during a promo that doubled my miles. Used the rest on ridiculously priced gift cards to drain the account. Thought they'd be useful but seems that every place I travel lately, the Marriotts are in places that aren't convenient.

So we have 2 years to use our SPG points before they become worthless lol

That's really bad news for me because clearly SPG points right now worth way more than 3:1 to Marriott points. Marriott points are literally useless. The cheapest hotel costs about 10K while 3000 SPG points get you a pretty decent hotel.

The SPG and Marriott points are not earned equally - Marriott points accumulate a lot faster, so it takes about as long to accumulate 10K Marriott points as it does for the 3K SPG. Comparing it 1:1 is misinformed. So, a 3:1 valuation is actually pretty close.

But, hey, if you think your Marriott points are useless, I'm sure you can find someone to relieve you of this burden, free of chargeWink.

Which means...what? A Marriott Cat 1 hotel is as "bad"/"good" as an SPG Cat 1, in general. The fact that they are worth different nominal amounts of points doesn't mean anything. They are different currencies.

Thanks. If Marriott cat 1 is as good/bad as SPG cat 1, we have more options to stay. There were some places I visited that did not have SPG Smilie

The Marriott flight and hotel packages are a good deal. If have 270,000 Marriott points, you can get 120,000 Southwest airline miles and 7 nights in a category 1-5 Marriott. 120,000 Southwest miles is enough to earn the companion pass.
