Hi everyone,

This receiver has mixed reviews, but it sounds as if a firmware update fixes a lot of the problems mentioned. Harmen Kardon has this receiver for $199.95 with free shipping. All of HK's factory re-certified comes with the original warranty and covered by their 30 day return policy where they will pay for return shipping if you are not satisfied. I'm also thinking any known hardware (if any) issues should likely be resolved since it's been looked over twice.

A great thread to read over if you'd like can be found over at AVS. There are people that mention HK is no longer focusing on audio/video receivers, so this may be our last time to purchase another HK receiver to enjoy that HK sound.

The information I'm finding online is that this is a December 2012 receiver.

Does HK keep making receivers with the same model number, improving features from year to year, or is the 2012 specs model, even if manufactured more recently?

Thanks!

The 2700 should be 2013, the 1700 was 2012. Rumor has it they aren't making new receivers moving forward, so if interested in that HK sound this is another opportunity.

Since this is 4k pass through it should work with all streaming, don't think 4k physical media though.

Have fun with this. I bought a brand new 2700 through Newegg for this same price & it was full of problems right out of the box. Exchanged it for another one that was also plagued with problems right out of the box. HK must have a TON of these things sent back to them. Shame on them.

Yep, should be safer with refurbished in this case. What problem did you see anyway, I'll keep an eye out when mine arrives.

I've had the 1700 for years with no issues, finally quit audio when I foolishly let positive and negative touch when moving speakers around.

Operator error.

I too have a 1700 that works flawlessly (almost 4 years old now). Thought I couldn't pass up a brand new 2700 at that price, but I was wrong. The first one caused a humming sound in all speakers, distorted the video signal from my PS4 & the bass control had no effect regardless of the setting (the bass was so heavy it hurt my ears even at moderate volume). The second one I just got on Wednesday and it too distorts my PS4 video signal. It's also experiencing all sort of bugs like the front display flashing on and off every 10 seconds until I unplug the unit. It switches inputs when I press the PS button my PS4 controller (figure THAT one out) and this morning it wouldn't turn on at all with either the remote or front panel buttons. I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to fire up. It's going back in the box and back to Newegg. HK customer support is an absolute joke, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks for the reply, did you check the firmware before sending the second back? To be fair I'm hoping some of that will be fixed with the update.

As of the bass heavy were you on logic 7? logic 7 is always too bad heavy for me.

Just checked again on a different device to prevent a cache issue, still available.

If browsing for it make sure you're in the recertified section, the new one is sold out.

Yes, it's on the latest firmware. I only use Logic 7 whenever possible (it's why I want HK to begin with). The bass issue was only with certain sources which was weird, but it's not an issue with the second unit I received. Now I can adjust the bass via the menu and it actually has an effect. Before it did not. These units are just incredibly buggy, all you have to do is read the online reviews to see that.

Honestly, I think my 1700 sounds better. I'm going to be looking for another one of those.

Thanks! Yeah, a lot of mixed reviews on the 2700 for sure, that's why I'm hoping recertified is better in this case. If not it's going back, just picked this up for cheap until I hear what the damage is for my 1700, buy me some time until I research a new brand for the future.

Well if you have an Amex I'd def buy it on that...it's the only card I know of that extends the warranty on refurbished items. I have a feeling you'll be needing it. HK has refurbished 1700s on sale for $180 from time to time...that's what I'm waiting for.
