Beer review thread

Bought my second bottle of DFH120. Haven't had it in years and I didn't remember what I thought of it. But, at $10.99 per 12 oz bottle, it better be good. It was. Not quite worth $10.99 (no beer is). But, it's close. I love it.

I'm gonna have to disagree. There are plenty of beers worth $10.99 or more. Maybe you paid a little too much at $10.99, since it goes for around 7.99-9.99, but you have to realize the cost in making a beer like DFH120. There is a lot of time, effort, and ingredients to get a beer to nearly 20% abv.

$7.99 would be a bit more tolerable. But, I've never met a beer that's worth $10.99 or more for a 12 oz. Our local brewery (Cigar City) makes a ridiculously popular stout called Hunahpuh's Imperial Stout. They charge $20 for a bomber. I won't buy it. But, it sells out in 2 days when they brew it and it sells for one hell of a profit on Ebay. So, apparently some people thing it's worth it. Matt has had it before. I took it to him when I visited SC a couple years ago.

I just heard a podcast with Mitch in which he said he dry hopped the IPA with Centennial and Motueka. If I can get a hold of some I'm totally going to try that (he said it smelled like Froot Loops.)

I had a NZ IIPA last night (Super Conductor by 8 Wired) - the aroma was out of this world. I'm really liking these beers with the NZ/Aus hops.

I tried a couple new to me beers. In Bossier City, LA, the only beer I've never had at the Horseshoe Casino was Michelob Amber Bock, so I gave it a shot. Very good and would recommend it. When I got back to TX, I stopped off for dinner at an Asian restaurant and hat a Kirin Light. Another good beer, would drink again.

I think my wife gave me the OK to pick up a sixer of Westvleteren XII if I can actually get my hands on one next week in MA. I'm floored.

I was actually gonna ask if anyone was attempting to get some. They aren't selling it in NJ which pisses me off and I had a meeting this morning that prevented me from going to NYC. Debating driving an hour to try and score some this afternoon for a 5 PM release.

Cisco Brewers' Madaquet. I really like this one - it's a West Coast IIPA style beer and a total departure from their normal stuff. Super resinous (very fresh bottle and pretty high IBUs.) I'll definitely be coming back to this one. From what I recall it seems to have a hop profile similar to Pliny (not as dry though.)

Ended up getting a hold of some Westvlereren today (took the day off work, waited in line for most of the day.) Was #4 in a line of 150 (the store only had 52 bricks.) In the end I'm ending up with two bottles and a glass (splitting the box) - I think I'll try one fresh around Christmas and cellar the other for a year to see what happens.)

I'm kind of glad that I was out the door early, because I don't want to see what happened with folks #53 to 150. The cool thing here was that the retailer stuck to the MSRP, which only netted him $2.00 a brick.

They weren't selling in NJ either. It was an ordeal, but I managed to get. It involved driving 50+ each way to NY, waiting in line for over an hour, over 4 hours in the car due to traffic, half a tank of gas, and tolls.

Finally got my hands on one.

Just got a Three Floyds Rye da Tiger...i give it an 8.5/10. Very very good beer.
