Thread Details

I've given my opinion in many places about the beer's i've tasted. Might as well have a thread about it. Feel free to add.

Currently having a Shiner Blonde.

A bit too light for my tastes, but a good Spring/Summer lager. Light, crisp, not too hoppy. Kind of like a hefeweisen without all the yeast. I tasted a little lemon at the first taste. Prett good. On a scale of 1 to 10, i'd give it a 7.

Had Red Poppy Ale this weekend. It was pretty freaking awesome but I probably won't buy it again since it's $17 for a bottle.

This brings me to a question...

I need recommendation for sour ales that aren't so expensive!

those are both reasonable... you probably can get a 750mL of duchesse for $10-12 and the cuvee de jacobins $6 for a 16oz bottle... both excellent!

Thanks, Matt! Brian recommended the duchesse and it is indeed excellent. I'll have to give the cuvee a try.

I doubt I'll be able to find something quite as tart and sour as the red poppy, but I can compromise if it means getting twice the beer for just a little more than half the price.

cuvee de jacobins IMO is better than red poppy... rodenbach is also a classic to get... Also some good sours by new belgium is La Folie and Le Terrior..

I really enjoy Rodenbach Grand Cru, and agree that Cuvee de Jacobins, is great. I also like Duchesse de Bourgogne. Sadly, most sours/red ales lean towards the more expensive side. Although they are a lot cheaper than the true Gueuze and Lambics I find in some stores.

On a side note, found a really cool home brewing setup in my internet travels today:

I saw that too. That's such an amazing setup...and there's no way that it only cost $3500.
(Maybe that was for his wife's benefit.)

Throwback's "Fat Alberta" - a chocolate stout made with peanuts. It sounds like an awesome idea but it didn't win me over (it actually tastes like peanut (not PB), which is missing but the cocoa is missing in the end product.) If they ever rebalance the recipe for this I'd try it again. 10% abv / 1.101 OG.

i agree, there is NO WAY that it cost $3500.... a stainless sink like that is usually around $1000 by itself... then the commercial fridge, the brew setup, even the vent hood... if that was a blank canvas, i wouldn't be surprised if that setup cost him more than $6k

Maybe he used slickdeals? I agree, that there is no way the setup was only $3500. Maybe they left off a 0 and meant $35,000 which is a little more realistic for what he has. I only posted it to show off the cool setup.
