Thread Details

I've given my opinion in many places about the beer's i've tasted. Might as well have a thread about it. Feel free to add.

Currently having a Shiner Blonde.

A bit too light for my tastes, but a good Spring/Summer lager. Light, crisp, not too hoppy. Kind of like a hefeweisen without all the yeast. I tasted a little lemon at the first taste. Prett good. On a scale of 1 to 10, i'd give it a 7.

Special Releases:
This section is a trial run and can and may be deleted if we get little to no action in this section. If you read info about a special release, please post: Brewery, Name of beer(and style if you know it), LOCATION OF THE BREWERY, and the release day of the beer.

Once a beer is established in this list, you can make a bullet underneath it if you see it at your local liquor store(maybe city and state). If you do so, please put your username behind this posting in ( ) so if others possibly in your area want more info at to what store you saw it at, they can PM you. If you want to keep anonymous, by all means don't add your username.

Lastly, if you see old info, please update it. If this list gets cluttered and never gets updated this section will be deleted.

Stone Brewing Company - Double Bastard Ale (american strong ale), San Diego(Escondido), November 5th release date.
Avery/Russian River - Collaboration, not Litigation Ale (Belgian Strong Dark), Colorado, unsure of release date. Beermenus [beermenus.com] shows it at Burp Castle in East Village, NYC.

Did anyone get their hands on the new release of the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout?
I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard that they're putting out something like 4x the amount of the stuff this year (thanks to A-B)

That is true, they have increased production about 4x. Increased distribution and production are the only good things about the AB-Inbev purchase of Goose Island. I just don't think any has made it out of the chicagoland area yet.

Glad to see this thread alive again.

Had a Stone 16th Anniversary IPA this weekend. It was very tasty and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Definitely a little deceptive at 10% ABV. Followed that up with Hoponius Union, still have a couple of those left from the 4 pack.

Anything interesting coming out soon that I should be on the lookout for?

Brown Shugga should be hitting MA by the end of the month, and Sucks/Holiday Leftovers shouldn't be too far behind that.

Canadian Breakfast Stout came out last year about this time, so I'm keeping an eye out for that for sure.

Candia Road/Nepenthe Ales (NH) just came out with a new IIPA called Lotus Eater. It's fantastic - lots of Citra (I think) and a cutting bitterness. If I had to do a "Sophie's Choice" between this and Heady Topper I'd have a really hard time deciding. It's like Maine's "Lunch" was before they changed the recipe/equipment/process, but even better and more bitter.

I think it's NH only at this point (it's made in the backroom of a tiny homebrew shop.)

Had a couple of new IPAs this weekend.

Stopped by CBC in Cambridge after work on Friday. Had a White Widow, which is a white IPA made with Pumpkin from their description. It was very good, but honestly I could not taste any pumpkin in it all. I know a lot of "pumpkin" beers mainly taste like pumpkin pie because they throw in the same spices, that I don't really like so I preferred this. I like CBC a lot, but it is always so damn crowded. Mad

Had a Sixpoint Resin IIPA tonight also. It was from a can like most Sixpoint brews I have seen, but it was a 12oz can vs. the normal 16ox cans I usually see. It was pretty good, but not something I would seek out again. I was expecting something like a Ballast Point Sculpin, which I consider very piney/resiny. It was a very similar dark brown pour but the flavor was a little strange, it almost had a raisinish after taste and I do not really like raisins. It is amazing though the variety of flavors that can be found in different IPAs.

If you like sours on the cheap find a can of Sixpoint's Apollo. The rep last week said that their hefe has morphed into a sour now that it has some age to it. She said that it was made with Weihenstephaner dregs.

I tried it and it's a very servicable very cheap sour IMO (though I'm far from an authority on good vs. bad sours.)

Yeah, even fresh Resin was pretty underwhelming (file under Deviant Dale's)

I can't say how close it is, i've never had the real deal, but when i got my hands on a few lbs of citras, i figured this clone was a good way to put em to use. my OG was 1.064 and FG was 1.015 which put it at 6.5%...smells phenomenal and tasted great when i dry hopped...i'll be kegging it soon...

looks tasty! the grain bill is nearly identical that one of my homebrews...same 2 row amount, same munich, same melanoiden amount, and i mix the crystal Lovibond around... then i use carapils to add body and head retention... i think carafoam is the same as carapils... then my hops for my recipe is bitter with magnums, flavor with centennials and simcoe, then a 50% mix of simcoe and amarillo in the dry hop.

Cool! I did a ZD clone a couple months back (I've never had the real thing either). It was fantastic at first, but after 3-4 weeks the Munich malt really seemed to take over a lot. The same thing happened with my Union Jack clone (even faster in that case.)

That's a big dry hop - that's going to smell fantastic.
