Thread Details

I've given my opinion in many places about the beer's i've tasted. Might as well have a thread about it. Feel free to add.

Currently having a Shiner Blonde.

A bit too light for my tastes, but a good Spring/Summer lager. Light, crisp, not too hoppy. Kind of like a hefeweisen without all the yeast. I tasted a little lemon at the first taste. Prett good. On a scale of 1 to 10, i'd give it a 7.

Special Releases:
This section is a trial run and can and may be deleted if we get little to no action in this section. If you read info about a special release, please post: Brewery, Name of beer(and style if you know it), LOCATION OF THE BREWERY, and the release day of the beer.

Once a beer is established in this list, you can make a bullet underneath it if you see it at your local liquor store(maybe city and state). If you do so, please put your username behind this posting in ( ) so if others possibly in your area want more info at to what store you saw it at, they can PM you. If you want to keep anonymous, by all means don't add your username.

Lastly, if you see old info, please update it. If this list gets cluttered and never gets updated this section will be deleted.

Stone Brewing Company - Double Bastard Ale (american strong ale), San Diego(Escondido), November 5th release date.
Avery/Russian River - Collaboration, not Litigation Ale (Belgian Strong Dark), Colorado, unsure of release date. Beermenus [beermenus.com] shows it at Burp Castle in East Village, NYC.

Regarding the storm: Several breweries were severely damaged & a couple could even be closing up shop for now. Power remains off in lower Manhattan. A big swatch of houses burned down in southern Queens, & many people's homes are still partially flooded in North Jersey. The tides did all the damage, as it barely rained at all here.
Man. It's going to be a long road for some of those folks.

brewing a double IPA tomorrow... a different spin off to my usual double IPA. 3% of my grist is an oaked smoked pale malt... never used the malt before so starting off small...its not peated malt so i know its not going to be a huge smoke flavor.... i think this double IPA will go well with a piney/citrusy hope profile... should also be around 11-12% depending on my yeast... going huge on citra and simcoe...
For that do you make a yeast starter and/or double/triple pitch?

I should have known - very cool. Thanks for the link - I've heard Jamil talk about that one a few times on his podcast but never checked it out.

Big beer - please keep us posted on the FG (and thanks for not using Plato - it confuzzles me.)

Been drinking Triples lately, and I must say I like it a lot more. Not sure if it's because I'm an alcoholic or because of the fuller and stronger taste the beers have.

Lately I have been drinking Triple Karmeliet and Grimbergen Double/Triple (Belgium beer). Grimbergen double has a very fruity, grape-ish taste. You could almost say it has a wine-beer hybrid taste..which sounds weird, but it's actually really decent. The downside to this is that the flavour is so light.. If you are tasting beer, taste this first or it will just taste like fruity water. Not like beer.

Then as for the Triples, they have a very strong/full taste with slight differences. Grimbergen has a fruity sweet taste to the beer (mind you that it doesn't taste feminine at all!) whereas Karmeliet has a more..sugary sweetness to it. The strange part is that sugar is not listed in the ingredients.. Try it out! Definitely good stuff.

Yep on Farmhouse - they got hammered last night. He ended up putting Citra up about an hour later and it went fast.

I loved that ZD clone. When fresh it was fantastic. Next time I brew it I'll probably dial the Munich back to 8 or 12 oz. I tend to drink a bit slow and after a few weeks the Munich really took over as the Citra got some age to it. I did a Citra + two row + sugar brew last month, it was good, but to me Citra does need some amount of specialty grains to make it pop a bit more.

I'm thinking about doing another run at the Pliny clone but replacing the CTZ+Centennial in the dry hop with Amarillo.I can't imagine that being a terrible beer.

Funny - the thought that crossed my mind when ordering wasn't so much the cost (which was a major factor) but how irked my better half would be in taking up more freezer space - I have about 2# of mostly 1oz bags in there now and that's already causing a problem. Whee

now that the keezer is built, i'm thinking of picking up a used refrigerator/freezer...lager/cold crash in the fridge...freezer for hop storage!

Awesome. Over the past few months I picked up a dorm fridge for beer and hops (freezer part), a bigger dorm fridge for a fermentation chamber and a keezer.) Last week my wife saw a big year over year electricity jump, and I can't help but think these guys are contributing - so for now only the keezer is plugged in. Boo.

Jack's Abby (MA lager only brewery) - tried a couple of theirs recently. In my mind they are the biggest bargain craft beer going.

"Kiwi Rising" - A double imperial lager made with NZ hops. Crazy good - the heaviest bodied lager I've had, and it's hopped like a IIPA. The aroma hops smelled like Froot Loops (Motueka hops???)

"Fire in the Ham" - Rauchbier - when reading the label I thought it was going to be a Rogue style gimmick beer. Nope, it actually smells like a smoked ham, and even though I don't like smoked beers it was actually damn tasty.
