Thread Details

I've given my opinion in many places about the beer's i've tasted. Might as well have a thread about it. Feel free to add.

Currently having a Shiner Blonde.

A bit too light for my tastes, but a good Spring/Summer lager. Light, crisp, not too hoppy. Kind of like a hefeweisen without all the yeast. I tasted a little lemon at the first taste. Prett good. On a scale of 1 to 10, i'd give it a 7.

Getting $100 for 200 beers is not such a great deal. A lot of beer bars have things like that. The bar I go to has the MBA (master of beer appreciation) and PHD (professor of hops and drafts) program. The MBA makes you drink 45 unique beers. You get a $20 gift card for completing 15 and 30 beers, and a $50 gift card and tshirt for completing #45. The PHD is a total of 60 beers, 15 each season. After completing #20 and 40 you get sent home with a nice bottle, complete #60 and you get another $50 gift card and a tshirt or hoodie for it, depending on which number PHD you have. Plus once you complete your MBA or after each PHD, your 16 oz pint gets larger for free. I have been doing various beer clubs like this at bars since college.
That's pretty good about MBA and PHD (both well acronymed).

I asked his coworker how much he thinks he's spent for those 200 beers and he said he doesn't want to think about it. laugh out loud Also, he said he sometimes ordered food with it, so I'm guessing $15 per 2 beers, so extrapolate that to $1,500, which probably doesn't include tax/tip. EEK!

I'm from Las Vegas myself and I've never seen anything like that around here at any bar, but it sounds really cool. Btw, where is it that bars are doing these things?

The MBA kinda sucks if you are a beer geek like myself because there are a lot of beers you need to drink that are pretty mainstream and mediocre in my eyes. I do think it is a good place for people to start who aren't familiar with craft beers.. I don't want to think about what I spent either, except that it's a fun place to meet up with friends for dinner and they have a lot of great beer events. Here is the MBA list, sorry for the formatting:

Im getting 3!

I think I'm drinking 2, and trying to trade one at dark lord day

I also bought a 4pack of their regular breakfast. Think it's worth trying to trade? I've never had any of their stouts before : / ...i'm still acquiring my stout taste buds

Have you had KBS before? If not, once you try it, you might not want to trade it. KBS is definitely good fresh or with some age on it. Regular breakfast stout is good, but not sure what you could trade it for since it's not that rare. If you can find it in a trade, try to get your hands on CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout). It is even better and rarer than KBS.

Question: If I'm going to be trading a few beers at Dark Lord Day, should I put them on ice? Or trade them warm?

Warm, most people are trading for their collection/cellar and not to drink on the spot. Of course you could also bring a few cold ones to crack open and share. At events like this a lot of people trade pours of great beers.

1 Bottle of Founders KBS
1 Bomber of 2009 Big Bourbon Series Lost Sailor Imperial Stout
1 Bomber of New Glarus serendipity

I had my first fresh Double Crooked Tree of the year. It tastes like a pretty different beer than last year (maltier - a lot like Nugget Nectar.) Not bad but not as enjoyable as I remember.

Yesterday I was at my local shop, I was buying a bottle and the owner said I have something for you. Hands over a four pack of Heady (at cost) - this is the fourth time they've done that with Heady for me. I love that place!

Very nice. One of my coworkers is a fellow beer geek and happens to have a place in VT. Really hoping some Heady, Hill Farmstead, and Lawson's finest make their way to me when they return from their 2 week trip.
