Great updates!
One thing that I'd love to see in the tech support sub forum (might be useful in other sub forums too) would be a basic rating system for posts to identify which post is most helpful to the OP's question. It helps identify good answers or helpful information rather than the dozen posts filled with unnecessary banter. Kind of like the "was this review helpful" links on Amazon. |

Great work
I like the new changes.

Looks good.
As for thread feedback, like it especially it is optional and not force to provide it. As for voting Results, the picture only show "Great deal" for thumb up? Can we have another choice for thumb up like - "Good deal but not slick" and/or "slightly better than average sale price" ? - "Seems like a good deal but don't follow the price of this product" ? <--- this one is useful for those like to follow how other vote. Usually those deal that make front page, suddenly it got bunch of thumbs up. Even though the deal has been posted in the forum for more than 12 hours. Always wonder if people thumbs up just to say thanks or actually know the deal is good.As for thumb down, people may thumb down to balance out the extra thumb up thinking the price is just average. Opposite also true. For example, for Ralph Lauren Polo, you often see online sale price at $39 which you can get that price at places like Marshalls. The price is still the lowest you can get online but just average sale price. People may thumb down (to balance out thumb up other people gave thinking the deal just so so and shouldn't have this much thumbs up) or thumb up because they think the deal is at least ok and shouldn't have too much thumbs up/down. Again, thumbs up/down just to balance out the rating. Can we have a thumb down option that said - "average sale price" ? or "thumbs up/down to balance the vote since this deal neither good nor bad"? As for price of the deal, I think we need something to distinguish "Hot/Slick/great deal" from "slightly better than average sale price", "normal sale price", "not good price", etc. It would be great if can rate the price by number like 1 to 5. 5 means Slickdeal and 3 means average sale price and 1 means horrible price. And we can see the number of people rate the deal 5 or rate it 3, etc. In the case of RL polo, may be most people would rate it as 3 since this is just average sale price which mean the price is neither hot nor bad. Just average sale price. That is good information to know and you can't tell from the current thumbs up/down. If I am not in a market for certain product (like the recent mechanical pencil deal), I may still get it if many people said it is " Slick deal". But if most of the thumbs up are just "slightly better than average sale price", then I may not want to get it. The opposite also true. If I really need to buy a 22" LCD soon, even if people thumbs down because the price is normal sale price or slightly higher than normal sale price (in the case of rate price by number, then most people rate 3), I may still get it. Just having two options of "Great deal" and "Not a good price" won't tell me that. Even the new Voting Results (show in the picture) doesn't seem to help. It also help Mod related to moving deal to front page. Definitely can use the price rating as a check to see if that deal should really make front page. Front page deal should have mostly rating of "5" (assuming 5 means "slick deal") and "4". If the deal has price rating of mostly "4" and below, then probably just slightly better than average sale price and may not be front page material. Also, if the price is not good AND the product is not good, can I select BOTH? It make sense to allow that since it probably happen often. Last edited by MozartA; 09-11-2008 at 01:43 PM.. |

oh crap. i just noticed it affects all other sections besides hot deals. i rather have the new update only affect threads in hot deals which it was originally meant for. anyway we can isolate the new change to only hot deals?

It was meant as a forum-wide change. Its not uniform because we wanted the first post to stand out
I would say lets give it a shot for a little bit since I think it'll grow on you. It also paves the way for future changes and features
The personal views and opinions expressed in this post are exactly that and do not necessarily represent an official opinion or stance of Slickdeals and this is a disclaimer in case I say something stupid. In fact, anything I say should not be taken seriously.
