Can connect to internet with modem, cannot connect with router. ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is on its way. Do I need to buy a router, too?
I've lived in this house since 2002. The Motorola modem that I'm currently using was bought and installed in 2005, and I am replacing it with the ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem that's currently on the FP. Its estimated arrival date is 10/3 so I will be without wireless until 10/3 probably. I'm guessing that my modem is going out because it is so old.
The router is an Asus RT-N12 from 2009. Should I go ahead and change the router, too?
I have a wireless printer, Firestick, Chromecast, obi phone, Kindle, and mobile phones that connect to my wireless regularly. Sometimes I use FTP transfers. I'm on the Cox Essential (up to 15 Mbps download, up to 2 Mbps upload.)
If I should replace my router, what recommendations do you have for the router?
