Citibank Extra Cash : worthless?

disk 603 September 26, 2008 at 01:19 PM
I have 600 in extra cash. But for those of you with Citibank credit cards, you know that Extra Cash isn't even close to cash. It's no deal.

Has anyone found a way to game the system, maybe get some money from this so called "extra cash" balance?

Thanks

i just called to cancel my card and found we have about $1300 in extra cash. i did a search for flights to london and i'm seeing prices for $1053/person and continental is $930/person.

i haven't gone thru the full process to book, but it seems like a good deal, no? almost a free flight after tax and fees.
I don't know. My extra cash always ends up expiring and I can never find anything worthwhile so I don't bother with it anymore. From what I remember I know that what they usually do is you can apply XX amount of extracash and then you have to pay the rest. ExtraCash in many cases is nothing more than a percentage discount and in many respects you'll fare better looking for things here on SD.

That said, if you are given the ability to pay for an entire plane ticket with ExtraCash, without having to use any of your own money (not some half and half shenanigans), then yes that sounds good. I think there is tax on foreigners going to london these days BTW. They are/were having tourism problems because of it.

Best thing really is to get them Daily Deal Gift Cards then sell the Gift Card on Platic Jungle for Real Cash. The only problem is you have to check the Daily Deals Daily to see when it is. And when they offer them they sell out right away!

It's a rip-off, plain and simple. There is no way to come out ahead on this one. You use Citi's card (for your regular purchases) and the "great offer" from Citi is to "allow you" to use the Citi dollars you've earned as a discount on very high retail prices. You will never benefit from having used the card.

are there any other rewards besides this cash program under these cards?

In my eyes, this is always the way the bank cooperate with the shops to boost the sales. It's good to get the points back from the bank when you pay and get the discount in some nominated shops. Anyway, just spend your money on what you need.

I have 25K but can't you.

Better Contact Citi and notify them that you want to change your VISA card to a CASH REWARDS card.

They first check for your account eligibiliy, then they change your card to WORLD MASTER CARD, with no changes to your Current APR and any promotions.

Complete waste of a program. It's a SCAM.

I Said "The new Citi easy Deals have Local Deals that let you redeem coupons with local stores without any purchases using the citi card. Find things you will use most and redeem the hell out of them!"
I then said " nevermind, most of the local deals are what they called "Premium Deals" , which you can only redeem ONCE PER YEAR "

The only other thing i see to unload these pts is to use their Auction i suppose.

Wow this thread has been alive for over four years, neat.

On October 15, Extra Cash from Citi will become Citi Easy DealsSM. We're giving you 1,000 bonus points to use for amazing deals on our redesigned website. You'll get one Citi Easy Deals Point for each Dollar in Extra Cash you already have.
Well I have to check that out. Apparently there are points-only auctions for stuff. Anyone find anything worthwhile with the new program?

How can you buy and sell the points? I don't know how they're transferable.
