In this forum, we are all here to help each other and learn. (Crikey. Almost two years since I have joined and someone had to explain what a particular smiley meant just last week. Stick Out Tongue) I learned something from a wise q girl a long time ago...."A coupon is a form of payment." Armed with that knowledge, don't fear using the q as long as you are using them as the manufacturer states.

I know there are a couple of websites around that offer to teach you how to coupon shop for a fee. I just wanted to take a moment to tell you there is NO NEED to pay anyone a fee to learn to shop. Smilie All you need is SD and the coupon love you can get here is amazing.

Coupon shopping takes one thing....the confidence to learn and try. It can be scary but you can do it. Again, no need to pay someone. There are many many Jedi masters here that like to help Padawans.

I know it seems like SD can be overwhelming. Especially for those with little time to peruse the entire board. Here are some of my fave threads...

Here's a thread with the rules. I like it because the first two posts have a good list of abbreviations for nooblets. There is some really good info in it too. Not just boring old rules....

Ok a new problem maybe someone can help me with. I printed some Qs from allyou.com today. The first set of 3 keeps printing over and over. They do not have unique numbers. I can only use these once right? I am also wondering how I get my other Qs to print that were supposed to come after these 3. Its stuck printing this one page and now says I am at my limit on the site for the other Qs,

It is the target eggo Q
.50/1 Green Giant frozen Q
1.00/1 Yoplait fiber one Q,
Oh that's weird. laugh out loud When you say they do not have unique numbers are you talking about the bar code or the pin code? The bar code numbers should stay the same for the same q. The pin code should change. If the pin code is the same, you are correct. One time use. As far as the q's that were supposed to come after that....I dunno what to tell ya. Dontknow Retry on a different puter?

Pin code was the same.. Its weird how they kept printing. I just deleted it from my printer cache. I guess out of luck on the others since they would not print.

I think what the op is talking about there are one or two sites that I know of that sometimes report when they have future ads for stores such as cvs & walgreens(those are the only two I have seen more than once) but your web address is good to know as well to know when coupons will be in the papers
[I] have not put the sites down because I don't know if I'm allowed to or not ]

if anyone knows of sites that put store future ads I'd love to know as well wave

Available right here on SD. Here in the Drugstore Forum, there is a thread for each upcoming weekly ad that is available for CVS, Rite Aid, and Wags. As soon as folks get their hands on one, they post it here. Amazing Smilie

AND, there are threads for each future coupon insert as well. Play around and check it out.

No need for those "other" sites...the best info is all right here.

I feel so out of place. I have saved, clipped and spent hours in the store finding deals. I spent 150.00 tonight and only saved 24.00. My husband is so mad. I had a cashier tonight throwing my groceries around while my frozen things were thawing out while he argued about every coupon. It seemed like he was acusing me of stealing money from Krogers when I had all legitimate coupons. People in back of me were even ranting. I'm not sure if I can keep doing this with so little saving. I will accept any help from anyone who can guide me in the right directions. I'm begging because my husband lost his job and I haven't got enough savings to keep us going with this bad couponing that I try. Please help me in any way you can I am open. Bonnie from Northern Ky

First of all I apologize if what I'm about to say comes off as harsh but I'm saying it because I have also been without a job. Before worrying about coupons and trying to save simply by using coupons look at what you're buying and consider downsizing your overall purchases. I don't know how many people you shop for(don't know if you have children or not) but is everything you are buying necessary? Are you buying overpriced things or things you don't really need simply because you have a coupon? I don't buy things that I don't generally use unless they are free, close to free, or bought at a profit. To summarize, try to look carefully at what you're buying every week and see how you can cut back and then worry about the coupons.

I'm sorry that happened to youFrown It sounds like you just had a bad store. Coupon "friendliness" can vary wildly within the a neighborhood and even within different store branches. I would call Kroger's corporate office (with the cashier's info from your receipt) and let them know what happened. Then try again at another store. If your husband is mad, perhaps he can try couponing, maybe he'll have better luck.

Hello Bonnie!
Don't be so down. It takes time to learn any new skill, and couponing is definitely a skill. When I first started CVSing almost a year and a half ago, I was absolutely terrible at it. I'd spend $50 or $60 cash and walk out with $30 in ECB's and feel like I had done amazing things. That was before I found SD, of course. Now I generally spend less than a dollar cash, and generally stay pretty even on my ECB's. And at the grocery store, I spend usually around $30-$50/wk. My pantry is full, so I'm mostly getting produce, and restocking whatever pantry items I'm low on.

Even after finding SD, it took me a while to learn all of the tips and tools and tricks I needed to be successful at couponing. it won't happen overnight. I do agree with a previous poster that you will have to toughen up a bit. I used to cry at Wal-Mart when the cashier was mean, so I stopped going there. Best decision ever! Smilie But I don't cry over mean cashiers anymore either. I can now go to WM and give them back all the h*** they give me. You'll have to stand tall for you and your family. There will always be q haters out there...you'll never get away from them completely, so you will have to adjust your attitude if you expect to be successful. Couponing is a wonderful way to save money, but it is not for the timid.

Follow the Kroger thread, or whatever other stores you have nearby. Buy the deals only, and stock up on them. This may mean you are low on something for the next few weeks, until it goes on sale again. And it may mean you eat a lot of spaghetti, or cereal, or rice, or whatever is currently on sale right now. That's ok. Instant gratification isn't all it's cracked up to be when it means you are spending too much at the grocery store. I agree with the other poster that said to look at what you buy very critically. Is there anything you could live without for a bit? You may have to cut back a some fresh produce in favor of frozen (which is frequently on sale for practically nothing), or use less meat. There are lots of ways to trim a grocery budget, and some will be more appropriate to your situation than others. You'll have to find the best compromise for your family. But don't lose heart...couponing takes some time to master, and you'll get better every week, assuming you keep trying. You've got SD now, so read all you can, and ask questions you can't find the answers to . We're here to help! But simply throwing your hands up in surrender because one cashier was mean won't help you out. Use it as a learning experience and move forward. And I also agree with the other poster...if hubby is mad, make him try it. Otherwise, he can butt out. Smilie I understand things are tight for you now, so I would imagine you have more of a sense of urgency to master this RIGHT NOW that I didn't have. And you also have less room for error. So keep on attending to your SD lessons, and learn everything that you can. But please just realize that it won't happen overnight...you and DH both will have to have some patience. And you'll have to be willing to deal with the meanies...they never go away, no matter how good you get.

I would say that RyderGal has given you some sound advice. But let me add this, you saved $24 right? Isn't that $24 dollars more than you would have saved had you not tried? That's a start. It might not be what you read about others getting but you will get there. It generally isn't an overnight success sort of thing. I applaud you for your $24 savings! Applause

Now why is your husband mad? If he thinks $24 is paltry, then tell him he can mail $24 to me. I can make it go along ways. Biggrin2 Seriously though, Bonnie. You did good.

AND you held your patience with what sounds like a particularly rude cashier. He would have gotten an earful from me. AND his boss would have been at the register before it was all said and done if I knew my coupon match ups with the items were accurate.

As far as the people behind you, I generally try to discourage people from getting behind me as much as possible but as nicely as possible. If they still stay there after you warn them, then that's their problem. laugh out loud

Hey Girl -

That's 15% you saved! That is nothing to sneeze at for a beginner! It will be worth it, believe me. I am still learning and have to re-read directions, posts, etc. many times for some of the stuff to sink in. Other times I copy the information to a word document so I can print just what I need to have with me.

I agree, ask for the manager if you feel you are being given a hard time for no reason. Is there another Kroger in the vacinity that you can use - just in case everyone at this store is a jerk.

If you will send me a pm with your address, I'll send you some coupons I won't be using.

Keep up the good work!

Shellac, Thank you for your insight. You are correct, I was buying things just because I had a coupon and not thinking. Things I don't have a use for. I also found out the hard way that I should try different stores because some stores offer RR and can be cheaper in the long run,.
Exp of the pro Gillette razor 4.00 cpn- I used it at krogers but should have used it at wallgreens for 5.00 back to make it free. I'll learn soon I hope how to play this game.TY

Journeyman,
Thank you for your heartfelt reply. I am not going to let this one man cut me from couponing. I will have to take one day at a time and learn by doing. SD has been a terrific find and I fell I'm going to get the questions answered here with a lot of support.
I am reading everyday and I hope to be bragging someday about a stockpile.
I see you as a new found friend and once again thatnks for your support to me and my family at this trying time.

Hawaiiandawn,
You are so right about the $24.00. that will buy me some extra ice cream some week.
As far as the husband he'll have to live with me and that's always not so easy. I can make him less dinner and let him find clean clothes on the floor where he leaves them for me to pick up. Thanks for your help and I think I'm going to love the good support and friendships I found on SD starting with today I'm not going to get down on myself as I continue to learn the ropes. 1 cpn at a time I will save money and someday stockpile Smilie
Thanks again for your helpful insight SmilieB
