In this forum, we are all here to help each other and learn. (Crikey. Almost two years since I have joined and someone had to explain what a particular smiley meant just last week. Stick Out Tongue) I learned something from a wise q girl a long time ago...."A coupon is a form of payment." Armed with that knowledge, don't fear using the q as long as you are using them as the manufacturer states.

I know there are a couple of websites around that offer to teach you how to coupon shop for a fee. I just wanted to take a moment to tell you there is NO NEED to pay anyone a fee to learn to shop. Smilie All you need is SD and the coupon love you can get here is amazing.

Coupon shopping takes one thing....the confidence to learn and try. It can be scary but you can do it. Again, no need to pay someone. There are many many Jedi masters here that like to help Padawans.

I know it seems like SD can be overwhelming. Especially for those with little time to peruse the entire board. Here are some of my fave threads...

Here's a thread with the rules. I like it because the first two posts have a good list of abbreviations for nooblets. There is some really good info in it too. Not just boring old rules....

2012 Coupon Insert Schedule

Where can I use store q and manu q on the same item? TYVM Plgffl & MommieD
  • Target- Yes you can use a store q and a manu q on one item.
  • CVS- Yes you can use a cvs q and a manu q on each item.
  • Publix- Yes you can use a publix q and a manu q on each item.
  • Kroger- You can use Kroger coupons with manu q's, but not e-coupons (electronic coupons; such as shortcuts, cellfire, Kroger loadable coupons, etc).. *the register no longer allows for both an EQ and MQ to be used together on one item*
  • Walgreens- Yes you can use a wag q and a manu q. (Register won't allow more coupons than items in order) *always use the MQ first, then the Walgreens IVC (instant value coupon)*
  • Petsmart& PetCo- Yes you can use a store q and a manu q at those stores.
  • Rite-Aid- I beleive you can, I have , but I am not sure of the official policy.
  • Update on Rite-Aid policy: They do allow store q along with manufacturer q's. This was told to me by a store manager when I was in CA recently.
  • Meijer - Yes you can use Meijer Mealbox or Meijer discount Q's from ads with a manu q.
  • BJ's Wholesale Club - register flags possible duplicate but allows both BJ's and manu q.
Those are the only stores that I know of or that I have shopped at that have both store coupons and mq.

Add to the list of stores that accept both coupons on one item: Safeway and Albertsons and Fred Meyer.

The best thing is to email your stores and ask for a copy of their official coupon policy.

Could someone please explain to me how a buy one get one free coupon works when there is a buy one get one free sale on the same item? Do you get 2 items free? I believe it is next week Rite Aid has a BOGO sale on single serve candy and I also have BOGO coupons for Reese's candy, but I am not sure if it works any differently during a BOGO sale.
You should get both for free but some cashiers may give you a hard time.

Thanks! I was never sure how they worked so I always avoided using them during BOGO sales.

Does the state of MA allow you to make copies of receipts when submitting for a rebate?
You know, those rebate slips always say no copies unless prohibited by law.

I am not sure exactly what the law is for your state but some registers allow a second copy of the receipt to be printed at check out. I generally ask my cashier as the transaction begins. Sometimes after the drawer is closed it will not allow a second printing. At most stores the second receipt looks exactly the same. HTH. Smilie

I was just kidding about the n00blet. Smilie I sent a message to one of the Staples masters and will let you know when I hear back. Staples is one of those places that has so many deals it might just be the case where they don't have a regular thread so people don't miss out.

Ok, here is my problem.
I feel very awkward when walking around my grocery store with a pad of paper, calculator and pen. But I always feel I need to check my math as I've screwed myself too many times. So I guess I just want to know if you all walk around with a pad of paper, pen and calculator? If so how do you keep from looking like you are up to something?

I would say this...realize that you are saving buckets of money, and get over the awkward feeling. SmilieSmilie

I used to feel the same way too, back when all I carried was a few coupons in an envelope and a calculator in my purse. Now I walk in with a 3" three ring binder full of q's, shopping list(s), store ad, calculator, pen, paper, scissors (and even a second binder, if I'm going to CVS!) and my canvas shopping bags, and feel not the least bit awkward. It just takes some getting used to. And the funny thing is while I do get a few strange looks, more often than not, someone approaches me about how I organize my coupons, or how I'm able to save so much, or some other friendly q question. Even the cashier at PetsMart had a funny q story for me the other day...and I was definitely the only one there using coupons that evening. Some other folks looked at me like I was a bit batty, and others were annoyed when they got in line behind me (even though another register was open and available) but when I walked out of there saving $96 and paying $95, I didn't really care. My critters got quite a few extra treats that they wouldn't have otherwise, and I'm stocked on cat litter and food for several months now. I even had enough extra to pass some on to my sis for her cats and dog. With her being out of work, it's nice to be able to help a bit.

Do what you have to do to provide for you and yours, but don't feel awkward about it...coupons are free money. It would be silly not to use them!laugh out loud

I walk around the store with my checkbook wallet opened in front of me. My lists are paper clipped to it and it has different "pockets" for separating store Q's. I've never seen anyone else do it but, I don't feel embarrassed.

There was post here about a little .99 keychain calculator from Staples that's probably more discreet.

That was my post about the 0.99 keychain calculator at Staples - one good tug out of my pocket yesterday and it broke off of my keyring. :sigh: It still works, but now it stays in the coin pocket of my purse.

dhatch72: Today I walked around with nothing but a handful of Qs at lunch. I spent 10.44 OOP (8.09 of which was sales tax), and received 151.85 worth of merchandise. I could do this today because I was concentrating on items that were free outright after MQ (Airwick 50% off), and items whose deals I know by heart now (Theraflu 3/$8RR, Gillette razors, Vaseline Lotions, Bic Razors). It took about 5 minutes of prepping at the cosmetics register before I called her over to get me on my way, but it was doable without all of the stuff. On the first day of a sale, however, I am walking around with a pen, a pad of paper, a calculator, and I have each transaction planned out and written out on that pad once my cart is full.

So, in other words, flying by the seat of your pants will work well only if you know the deals by heart. If you don't, then grab those office supplies and take 'em with you. Few people will notice, fewer will care, and those that care don't matter.

I am still trying to come up with a better solution and may start a 3 ring binder even though my DH will think I am batty. Right now I am using a big ziplock bag and have smaller zip lock bags labeled with coupons inside them-works okay and is better than having them scattered through out the house around the computer!

Big advice for other newbies-loading EQs to your stores card is quick and easy. Vons/Safeway stores have it set up. Definetely check your stores website! Quick and easy was to get free stuff pretty fast-Vons has 3 websites you can load coupons from and I have already gotten yogurt, chex mix, and nature valley clusters free too name a few-EQs stack! And then you can IP the same coupon and use it also! Printable Internet coupons is another quick and easy way to start couponing-especially if you are like me and forget to get the Sunday paper!

Oh and I study and copy/take notes on what other SDers have done! I find it very helpful when it is spelled out step by step. I would have never figured out the JJ deal with out help from this website. I took notes and did it-the first time I did it my coupon didn't print, but nice people on this site told me to Catalina and they mailed me my coupons! then after that it worked fine-I now always make sure the Catalina printer has a green light!
