In this forum, we are all here to help each other and learn. (Crikey. Almost two years since I have joined and someone had to explain what a particular smiley meant just last week. Stick Out Tongue) I learned something from a wise q girl a long time ago...."A coupon is a form of payment." Armed with that knowledge, don't fear using the q as long as you are using them as the manufacturer states.

I know there are a couple of websites around that offer to teach you how to coupon shop for a fee. I just wanted to take a moment to tell you there is NO NEED to pay anyone a fee to learn to shop. Smilie All you need is SD and the coupon love you can get here is amazing.

Coupon shopping takes one thing....the confidence to learn and try. It can be scary but you can do it. Again, no need to pay someone. There are many many Jedi masters here that like to help Padawans.

I know it seems like SD can be overwhelming. Especially for those with little time to peruse the entire board. Here are some of my fave threads...

Here's a thread with the rules. I like it because the first two posts have a good list of abbreviations for nooblets. There is some really good info in it too. Not just boring old rules....

2012 Coupon Insert Schedule

Where can I use store q and manu q on the same item? TYVM Plgffl & MommieD
  • Target- Yes you can use a store q and a manu q on one item.
  • CVS- Yes you can use a cvs q and a manu q on each item.
  • Publix- Yes you can use a publix q and a manu q on each item.
  • Kroger- You can use Kroger coupons with manu q's, but not e-coupons (electronic coupons; such as shortcuts, cellfire, Kroger loadable coupons, etc).. *the register no longer allows for both an EQ and MQ to be used together on one item*
  • Walgreens- Yes you can use a wag q and a manu q. (Register won't allow more coupons than items in order) *always use the MQ first, then the Walgreens IVC (instant value coupon)*
  • Petsmart& PetCo- Yes you can use a store q and a manu q at those stores.
  • Rite-Aid- I beleive you can, I have , but I am not sure of the official policy.
  • Update on Rite-Aid policy: They do allow store q along with manufacturer q's. This was told to me by a store manager when I was in CA recently.
  • Meijer - Yes you can use Meijer Mealbox or Meijer discount Q's from ads with a manu q.
  • BJ's Wholesale Club - register flags possible duplicate but allows both BJ's and manu q.
Those are the only stores that I know of or that I have shopped at that have both store coupons and mq.

Add to the list of stores that accept both coupons on one item: Safeway and Albertsons and Fred Meyer.

The best thing is to email your stores and ask for a copy of their official coupon policy.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone in this forum to help us newbies out when it comes to coupons....I went to Food Lion last night armed with coupons and brought my $78 grocery bill down to $48! I have been reading a little bit every night trying to get things right. I know it's not as good as what some of you can do, but it's a start for me Smilie I was sooooo proud of myself! laugh out loud

Good job! Now, keep reading & practicing your craft. You should be getting your totals down from $78 to $8 within the year!!!! Please beware of many other sites that condone improper coupon usage though. You can learn how to do it correctly here and will have learned how to fish for life instead of just getting some cheap stuff once. Best of luck & remember we're here to help you get there.

I have a question do you know if the manufacturer Q's in newspapers and printed online from websites like coupons.com only applicable within the USA?

I normally live in the u.s. but I am currently in Canada. would appreciate it if somebody knew whether there's a difference

General Q question:

Some stores/cashiers/combo of the two allow overage on a Q.

Ex. The Tylenol Precise $5/1 Q and the clearanced items that are ringing up for around $2.

If the cashier tells you they don't allow overage, does the store get reimbursed $5? Or just the $2.
When the cashier just allows it because they're not paying that much attention to it [beepless] does that affect how the store is reimbursed?

I want to make sure my store is properly reimbursed, and if we can get overage, of course I'd love that too. TIA!

The store will get reimbursed for the full value regardless of whether it is adjusted down. If the clerk forgets, the store still gets all of its money. Some stores however, make it policy to adjust coupons down (like Rite Aid). Stores like Walmart and Kroger allow the overage, unless you have an angry cashier that doesn't know what they're doing.

The manager at CVS told me it was "coupon fraud." I asked her, can you just scan it? She kept insisting. I've gotten overage before at other stores. Oh well. Never been to that CVS before, but she handled my transaction perfectly minus that little blip.

CVS registers don't normally allow overage. The only reason some folks are getting it with the Precise q is that it is a 992, and CVS can't "attach" 992 Q's in their system...the register only asks if the item is taxable or not. Getting overage with this q will be extremely YMMV at CVS.

I don't agree with their "no overage" policy. I agree it is shady at best and possibly even fraud, but I just make sure I do anything I can to avoid giving them more than a few cents overage at any given time.

Managers and clerks like to say lots of things. Most of them don't know their own store policies let alone how the coupon world works. CVS may, however, be like Rite Aid and require coupons to be adjusted down (which I think is coupon misuse since they get reimbursed the full amount)

That's what I figured. Lame. If they're going to get reimbursed the full amount, why shouldn't I get overage? You're getting reimbursed as a store. Meh.

I've been reading/lurking/etc for a while now and have been normally using whatever coupons I could garnish from myself and family (no buying of coupons/newspapers/inserts/mags/etc...).

Now, I want to get into the field of mixing in internet printables but have some basic questions that I haven't seemed to be able to answer:

- With collecting the coupons, I could only get however many of that item I had coupons for. How does this work for printing? Does the printer software from the sites limit you to so many to print? Instead of collecting coupons from dad/mom/son/etc can I just print 4?
- I read the piece for Target's system where you have to create so many user accounts for multiple printouts... But haven't found the answer for manuf. Q's?

- These are basically retained as the same kind of manuf. coupons that I would see in the papers? Still stackable with store Q's as I am lead to believe?

I just don't want to be lead into a scenario where I have printed 5 coupons (that I would normally get from 5 family members so all legal), but only 1 printed is actually legal and the rest won't work cause they weren't created right for some reason (I know SD's doesn't condone this and I'm not asking for it, I want to avoid doing the wrong thing).

hey!

for most printable websites, like coupons.com, smartsource.com and redplum.com - you are allowed two prints per computer. you can tell that these are two unique prints because they will have some kind of tracking code on them that is unique. if you have multiple printers to print from - then you could print two more from each site and so on.

I am totally new here and have a question. I see people talking about getting inserts from newspaper workers. How do you meet these people? I live in an apartment and don't ever see a delivery person. I need to build my coupon stock up fast and don't have much money any suggestions would help. Thanks!

It depends on the type of printable. As someone else already mentioned, most of the time, the coupon printing software limits the prints per computer. The limit is usually two, but sometimes can be only one, or even as many as ten.

For example, there was a recent $1/1 V-8 Fusion + Tea printable from Campbell's Kitchen that allowed 4 prints per computer ... even though the $1/2 any V-8 Fusion printable from the same site only allowed 2 prints. Dontknow

Each coupon, though, should have a unique PIN code identifying it as a legit coupon.

There are legitimate printable coupons, however, that have no such print limits or unique, identifying PIN codes. Typically, these coupons are released from the manufacturer as a "pdf" file or other savable document. But a problem can arise, if, for example, the manufacturer releases such a coupon not knowing or understanding just how widely it will likely circulate over the blogs and deal sites. Some stores, having experienced such problems before when attempting to get reimbursed, will no longer take "pdf" printables, even when legitimately released and distributed by the manufacturer.

FWIW, the days of multiple user accounts for multiple prints of TQs are gone for most people, myself included.

The only answer for the software-imbedded print limits is access to more computers -- friends, family, neighbors, work, school, library, etc. However, the firewall and/or security measures for some "public" computers (schools, libraries, internet cafes) may prevent the printing software from downloading, meaning the coupons can't be printed from those computers.

Yep. nod In that sense, they are the same as insert MFQs. A $2 printable and a $2 insert MFQ are interchangeable.

When using the most common printable sites (coupons.com, smartsource.com, redplum.com), there's really no way that could happen.

When you reach your print limit at coupons.com for any particular coupon (whether it's one or, more commonly, two), you can no longer select that coupon to print and the selection box will read "Print limit reached." At smartsource.com, after you reach your limit, while you can still select the coupon for printing, no additional ones will print.

Many of the printables from these sites even have verification instructions printed right on the coupon, so any store employee with internet access could use the unique PIN codes to verify that each coupon was, in fact, legitimate.

Hi! Another newbie here and I have a question. I apologies if this has been asked before.

I've been watching Extreme Couponing and I see that almost everyone on there will use multiple coupons for the same type of product (ex: 50 of the same coupons for 50 of the same bottles of laundry soap) - how is that possible?

Almost every coupon I have says "limit one coupon per purchase", I rarely find a coupon that doesn't say that. I do have a few that say "one coupon valid for items indicated".

Am I misinterpreting the coupons? Most of my coupons are printed from the computer.

Thanks!
