According to a Natural Resources Defense Council report, better power-saving features on games consoles could stop the wastage of $1 beellion of electricity in America every year.

“Through the incorporation of more user-friendly power management features, we could save approximately 11 billion kWh of electricity per year, cut our nation’s electricity bill by more than $1 billion per year, and avoid emissions of more than 7 million tons of CO2 each year,” says the study.

Apparently, games consoles alone in the US account for the same amount of annual power consumed by San Diego.

Current affairs are just shocking. More through there.

Yeah and TV's are probably responsible for $1 trillion a year in wasted power. People need to find better hobbies than coming up with useless studies.

They're talking about standby mode.

Though I wonder how much of that figure is people running F@H. In which case, it wouldn't be a waste.

How about a study on how many resources are wasted by useless studies?

I have said it before and I'll say it again, I should be able to claim my PS3 and my electricity bill as a tax deduction if I run folding@home. Sure you'd have to pro-rate to only deduct the percentage of each that you used for folding@home, but I think it is legitimate.

That's what I'm saying!

Wasted? More like, "Giving free concerts to anyone that walks past my house via Rock Band."

How much power is used for those gigantic stadium lights for football/baseball games and such? Play the stupid game in the day time and save a billion or so in electricity right there.

Lol... seriously.

Or go to Vegas and look at the strip. They probably waste more electricity every NIGHT than all the gamers in the US combined in a year.

College football runs all day though - theres money lost in viewership if you're competing with other games..

though that would cut back on total tv watched

I was hoping to have a PS3 there as well, so I could give a stronger representation, but you all know that story.
