I am a teacher in a small Yupiit villiage in western Alaska. I would use the computer in my classroom with language games to help my students learn English.

I would use this to work on our family genealogy at on-site locations..I haven't been able to get all the information that is available in these type of locations. It can take forever to write it all down by hand and then make sure you enter it into the software program correctly. I've found that sometimes the information I've written doesn't make sense at the time I enter it. I sometimes have made mistakes or perhaps missed a fact. To add to that problem, unfortunately some of our family information is only available at on-site locations. At these places, there may only be one or two computers which are very very slow and old. But there are ways to hook up to the network and put it directly into your computer. Otherwise, one has to wait sometimes an hour or more to get to use these computers. Then you are only allowed 30 minutes of use. With my own laptop that would allow me to get the info in a few visits instead it taking months of visits. I have a mother in law who is 83 and an Aunt who is 94. Both are looking forward to me finding out more about their ancestry...sure hope I can get more info in their life. Time is certainly not on my side.Or rather theirs.

If I had my own laptop, I could spend a few hours in the next month or so to gather this information. It would be awesome to be able to give them their family history and genealogy chart showing who their ancestors were...then I would use this same laptop to record and photograph them answering questions about their own memories. Later their children and grandchildren and even future descendants would be able to 'really know' these wonderful people.

Technology will allow our children and grandchildren and even their children to know more about their ancestors and what life was like in the past. At least I hope I can achieve this...

I would give it to my sister, to replace the one I broke.

I'd use the laptop for my daughter, who is severely disabled. I make electronic books of her life and interests using Powerpoint. She turns the pages using a head switch. I also collect music videos that she can start by using the switch. In addition, I do have some commercial cause and effect software, some of which can be individualized with personalized photos and music!

Joyful Noise is a non-profit music school in Cleveland, Ohio that provides free music lessons to inner-city children whose families could otherwise not afford them. We also provide the students with free use of instruments, visits by professional musicians, scholarships to attend summer music camps, and free attendance at concerts. Aside from the director, the organization is completely run by volunteers, and all of the parents are very involved. We serve over 100 children every school year.

We are a small organization, and we have just moved in to our first office. A laptop is exactly what we need----we need something that we can work on at the office AND take to the school, which happens at another location.
