I would love to have a Dell laptop! Pick me, pick me! Here is why -- I was a loyal Dell user for years and then our Dell broke and I could not afford a new one and had to get a Compaq. All that happened was that it made me appreciate Dell more. Dell is so reliable and fast.

On September 28, 1944, an American B-17 was shot down over Wolfenbuttel, Germany. Though wounded, a young Army Air Corps Radio Operator named Sergeant Shep Kerman stayed with the plane which was plummeting to earth to tend to his friend, Lieutenant Jack Timmins who was seriously wounded. Sergeant Kerman delayed bailing out until he was able to throw Timmins from the stricken aircraft. Timmins and the rest of the crew (except for one) were taken prisoner after landing and survived the war as POW's of the Third Reich. The one crewman who didn't make it past that day was Shep Kerman. Sergeant Kerman was captured after his parachute snared on the roof of an apartment building in the town center. He was pulled in to the 2nd story apartment that he was left hanging in front of by 3 Nazi officials. Moments later he was shot in the head and his body loaded into a produce cart and dumpted at a nearby cemetery. 62 years after that tragic day a news story about Sergeant Kerman's heroics ran in a Las Vegas newspaper. A friend of the family saw it and alerted me because Sergeant Kerman was my Uncle Shep. I left word to the writer that I wanted to be put in touch with the Daughter of Lt. Timmins, who told the story her late Father told her about the man who saved him. Since then I've met with her and made 2 trips to Wolfenbuttel to meet with eyewitnesses and in September 2008, I met with their Mayor to discuss ways to honor my Uncle. This could involve creating a memorial or even an educational exchange program so that people could learn about my late Uncle and the cause which he gave his life. I also plan to write a book on this subject. While I could use any computer to write this story, I would prefer to use a Dell. My own Dell. That's why I'm replying to your offer for a free Vostro. I would use it for college courses, I usually stay at school until 8-9 because I don't have a laptop to work with, since everyone at home is sharing the computer and someone is always using it, sharing a computer with 4 other siblings isn't very good, I cannot get anything done!

Six (6) years after I retired from the Army as a dentist at age 64, I was notified that there was a severe shortage of medical personnel in combat zones. The Army decided to recall retirees as volunteers if they had an active license and could pass the physical.

Although my vision was corrected by bifocals, wore had hearing aids, and had a slight limp, the physician classified me as fit for duty anywhere my Country needed me.

I was attached as a dentist with Charlie Company of the 1st of the 134th Brigade Support Battalion, 34th (Red Bull) Infantry Division and spent my 71st birthday in Iraq. I was very fortunate to survive and able to return with minimal trauma, but not so my laptop which did not have any armor to withstand the physical requirements of rigorous military life.

I have decided to give up the active practice of dentistry but am occasionally involved with providing dental examinations on a voluntary basis for military troops that are preparing to deploy or have demobilized from their active tours. A laptop would greatly aid me in keeping dental records of the soldiers without having to punch paper.

We heard about many people bringing their laptops to wifi cafes and libraries that had already gotten their power back after Ike, while most places were still without power. They were able to get word out to their family and friends -- the only other ways to communicate that I heard of was texting and ham radio.
