It's getting difficult to discern what the best deals are for consumers on the Front Page anymore ... if it weren't for the Lounge & Tech Support, this would be just another site :sadwalk:

It's easy enough to give examples on a near-daily basis. Here are a couple that I haven't bothered spending more than 10 seconds thinking about just from today's front page:

1 - Microsoft Keyboard from Amazon for $25 ... save $5 over nearest competitor :yawn:
2 - Seagate Hard drive $120, save $20 over nearest competitor :rolleyes:

Front Page worthy? Nearly any post in Hot Deals contains similar deals. There were 10+ legitimate SDs today, but I think that's becoming a rarity. Its better use of my time to search for something I'm looking for than look in much detail at the FP. No impulse buying $$$ from me. :nono2:

I think it may be a simple economic decision. Any front page "Slick Deal" that goes dead doesn't generate revenue. The more hits generated, the more $ the site generates (to pay for server bandwidth, moderator lounge parties, LowPro's extensive counseling needs, etc. ). Yeap, SD sold out.

IMO they're just not terribly there anymore. the more people know about sites like this, companies catch on quicker.

the only ones are terribly YMMV and we don't put those on the fp. we all order them, but we don't expect them to come. fi they do :whee: if not, meh.

things that get fp'd are things with at least 10 tu votes. if you'd like to get it back to the old way of just the best of the best.. start a thread in site suggestions. see what others say.

I've also noticed a change in the quality of the Front Page, but I don't fault the website for that. I think they rely on the number of thumb ups, if there are many in a short period of time, they will add that deal to the FP. As the site became more popular, with more people with less experience evaluating deals, we saw more of what appeared to be a "good deal" but is actually market (there is just an inflated MSR price or some other marketing nonsense). I doubt (but maybe I am incorrect) that the guys that decide what is on the FP do not read every deal, they just read the ones with the most positive attention.

Oh, and by the way, if I see it on the FP and it is a really good deal, my experience is that the deal has already been hit so much it is (1) no longer available or (2) only available in a few sizes, areas, etc. that I do not qualify for. If you want the really good deals, you have to read the general forums for the newer posts, pay attention to what the guys with a lot of rep are saying, and make your own evaluation -- quickly if it's online.
