I don't really see the point of starting a facegroup thread for free movie passes. When I go on Facebook I go on to talk to people, when I go on slickdeals I go on to find good deals.
I also limit the amount of people who I inform about free movie passes since there is a limited amount of them in the first place. tickets. I don't mind sharing with SDers and close friends, but I don't need everyone I know knowing about in personally.

RSVP for 2 tickets to "Knowing"
Westwood, Los Angeles, CA
Thursday, March 19, 2009 @ 7:30 PM
Mann Bruin Theater in downtown Westwood
Got an email from MyCinemaAccess... I'm not sure if this is a unique link, but I'm inclined to think it isn't.
http://www.mycinemaaccess.com/E/KB319.htm
Need to register for an account first (they don't spam you and they occasionally send out RSVP opps like this one! Nice.).
Be sure to print the Confirmation page since you have to show that at the Will Call table! Also, I'm a Bruin who's been to many of these screenings + premieres (with free screenings :D) and they always have a LOT of people who show up. I'd suggest getting there like 1 hour early to check in and wait in line.
Synopsis of movie:
"Knowing is Everything"
A teacher opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son's elementary school; in it are some chilling predictions -- some that have already occurred and others that are about to -- that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold.
Starring Nicholas Cage, Chandler Canterbury and Rose Byrn.

Entertainment Weekly Screening of Grey Gardens
Grey Gardens:
Based on the life stories of the eccentric aunt and first cousin of Jackie Onassis (both named Edith Bouvier Beale aka "Big and Little Edie") raised as Park Avenue debutantes but who withdrew from New York society, taking shelter at their Long Island summer home, "Grey Gardens." As their wealth and contact with the outside world dwindled, so did their grasp on reality. They were reintroduced to the world when international tabloids learned of a health department raid on their home, and Jackie swooped in to save her relatives.

I hope you were not part of the group that claimed a whole row of seats. Becuase those girls were using their iphone through out the movie and did not sit down untill 2 minutes after the movie started. If you were, sorry for being rude, I was in a crappy mood.
PS that movie was not good, I can't belive that people clapped.

Agreed! An alternate ending would be GREAT for that movie... I can't believe i missed prescreen tickets for Knowing.. would've been great!
Oh! I was just thinking and wanted to run it by you..
Prescreen movies are great! I mean it's free, and just wasting time i line to get in, but my fiance and I were thinking.. wouldn't it be great if they gave you a small bag of popcorn to go with it?? I doubt they'd EVER do it, but thinking... if they did people would want more and buy it.. or buy a soda to go with it. I'm not even thinking the normal small popcorn.. more like the size kids get in the kids pack.

i, on the contrary think that the free movie screenings is the best way to get a certain demographic of people to come out (mostly in austin, its the lower class families with like 8 kids who cant afford to bring their kids to movies... so its a lot of savings...and i dont blame them) but what really disappoints me is that when they bring these 8-9 year olds to rated R movies with about 10 mins of men's ganitalia being shoved in their faces and about 100s of curse words being used like nothings wrong with it
My worst experience was when a seemingly innocent 12-13 year old girl was sitting next to me and her mommy in the movie "good luck chuck" and the mother did not seem to care what her child was being exposed to. Enough Said!
but yeah, the concession sales is what the movie theaters are hoping for, its a way for movie studios to get initial feedback about their movie to project box office stuff and in return giving movie theaters in metropolitan cities a chance to make a lot of money. Most of the ticket sales dont end up with the movie theater anyway with the cost of the reel etc, so this way, they get a lot of people buying overpriced popcorn and sodas... (and in austin, I can vouch by saying every obese person around that screening zip code was at that screening= huge concession sales)

Don't get me wrong, I think the free prescreens are WONDERFUL! I mean, My fiance and I saw 3 last week? and we probably would never have seen the movie ever if it wasn't for the prescreen, but now with the "knowledge" we can give advice to our friends if they should see it or not.
But I DO agree with you about children seeing movies that they probably shouldn't see till they are of age.. A friend's friend brought their daughter, around 4-5yrs old, over while we were getting ready to watch Saw3, and they let her watch it with them! I was horrified! I myself am pretty squirmy with horror movies and couldn't imagine letting my child watch something of that nature at that age.
But yeah.. I see what you mean by the concession sales at the prescreens. I looked around and like 90% of the theater had something from the concessions stand.. I can't get over paying $7 for a popcorn where I'll eat maybe half and then toss the rest..sodas are getting up there too...

SYNOPSIS: - (May Contain Some Spoilers)
Beto (Diego Luna) and Tato (Gael García Bernal) Verdusco are brothers who work at a banana plantation and also play soccer for the village team. Nicknamed "Tough" because of his personality and football style, Beto dreams of becoming a professional soccer player; Tato's dream is to be a famous singer, and both share the dream of building a house for their mother, Elvira (Dolores Heredia).
They have a change in luck when "Batuta", a soccer talent scout, discovers them accidentally. Tato is the first to move to the big city where he becomes the star goal scorer for the prestigious Deportivo Amaranto (Amaranto Club). His baroque playing style earns him the nickname of "Corny". Although Beto feels he has been betrayed and left behind, he soon travels to Mexico City to become the goalkeeper for Atlético Nopaleros (Nopaleros Team).
At the peak of glory, they forget all animosity, although it does not last long. At the very real possibility of fulfilling all of their dreams, the siblings must face an innate rivalry as well as their own demons and limitations. Beto is a gambler and allows his addiction to drag him down; Tato is unable to recognize his true talents and squanders every opportunity by pursuing a false idea of celebrity and status. The dream seems to slip through their fingers. And it is at their worst moment that the brothers find forgiveness trying to help each other while casting headlong towards their individual destiny.

About the movie:
From the filmmaker who produced "The Passion of the Christ" comes a powerful film, a modern-day parable, based on an incredible true story of sacrifice, oppression and mob rule. A village's persecution of an innocent woman becomes both a daring act of witness and a compelling introspection. As Christians, how do we confront evil? Do we recognize its subtle manipulations? Who will join forces with the plot against her, who will surrender to the mob, and who will dare to stand up for what's right? This film is an inspiring tribute to the many fighting against injustice around the world. Academy Award® nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (THE NATIVITY STORY, HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG) stars in the heroic role of Zahra, an Iranian woman with a burning secret. When a journalist (Jim Caviezel, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, DÉJÀ VU) is stranded in her remote village, she makes a bold choice to reveal what the villagers will stop at nothing to keep hidden.

Los Angeles (5/5/2009 - 7:00 PM)

It asks for a congregation name + size because Grace Hill Media is a religion-based PR firm, but if you don't belong to a congregation, it's probably ok just to enter a blank space in those fields/choose a random size from the menu. FYI, this firm last screened Benjamin Button.

I have passes for Up in Manhattan this Wednesday. I already saw it. The screening will not be in 3D. I can e-mail the passes to anyone who is interested. PM me with your e-mail address.
Edit: Apparently, it's overbooked already so YMMV. They never check names at this type of screening but you'd have to go at your own risk.

gofobo will let you get two, but you have to indicate that you want two when it asks you to choose. It will save the pass for you in your account until you are ready to print it. CANNOT make copies as the UPC is good only one time. So if you make copies for friends, only the first one will get in , so don't do that.

I have some other info on some nationwide (?) Terminator screenings:
Hey Kids, Warner Bros is giving away VIP passes (no waiting in line) for a series of advance screenings of Terminator Salvation on May 18th and 19th. Text SALVATION and your zip code to 43549 (example text: SALVATION 91505). You will receive a text message with a link that is unique to your entry. You can forward the text containing the link to your friends, family or whoever you think will help you win. The more times people click on that link, the more entries into the contest you will get.
The contest will end on Wednesday 5/13 @ 11:59pm PDT. Exclusive VIP winners will be randomly chosen out of all eligible entries within a 30 mile radius of each theater and notified via text on Thursday 5/14 or Friday 5/15 with further instructions. The prize for the winner will consist of two (2) VIP seats held until thirty (30) minutes before the start of the screening. 43KIX is spam free and does not charge for text messages, but standard rates may apply, consult your wireless plan.

The book actually takes place before The Da Vinci Code but I think the movie is being treated as a sequel. Not sure how that will work. If the screening is tomorrow (I know most of them are), maybe rent Divinci Code tonight?

About Terminator Salvation:
The year is 2018. Judgment Day has come and gone, leveling modern civilization. An army of Terminators roams the post-apocalyptic landscape, killing or collecting humans where they hide in the desolate cities and deserts. But small groups of survivors have organized into a Resistance, hiding in underground bunkers and striking when they can against an enemy force that vastly outnumbers them.
Controlling the Terminators is the artificial intelligence network Skynet, which became self-aware 14 years earlier and, in the blink of an eye, turned on its creators, unleashing nuclear annihilation on an unsuspecting world.
Only one man saw Judgment Day coming. One man, whose destiny has always been intertwined with the fate of human existence: John Connor (Christian Bale).
Now the world is on the brink of the future that Connor has been warned about all his life. But something totally new has shaken his belief that humanity stands a chance of winning this war: the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger from the past
whose last memory is of being on death row before awakening in this strange, new world.
Connor must decide whether Marcus can be trusted. But as Skynet adapts new strategies to end the Resistance forever, Connor and Marcus must find common ground to take a stand against the onslaught—to infiltrate Skynet and meet the enemy head-on.

Each location has it's own unique code, and to my knowledge, there's no master code for any movie that will let you pick a screening anywhere you want. I would recommend checking out http://gofobocodes.blogspot.com/ to see if you can find a code for whatever location you're looking for, or just keep scouring this thread to see if someone maybe posts what you need.

What are you 80 years old? Bite the bullet and live a little. I tried for tickets and I would only get 3 hours sleep before work if I went. I might just snooze in the car after the movie and go straight to work after drinking a quart of black coffee. Yeahh!! I can feel my chest hair growing as I type.

just a quick question about the 500 days of summer movie screening, is it free or do we have to pay? i've never attended a movie screening before so i'm kind of new at this. thanks in advance :look:
Yes it is free. The below information is taken from Film Metro website but I think it will answer your question in general about movie screenings. By the way Film Metro is a nice website to look for free movie screening. Here is the link http://www.filmmetro.com/.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an advanced screening? Before a movie is released to the general public, many times the movie studio will offer advanced screenings for research and promotional purposes. These advanced screenings are free and usually targeted towards specific people and areas.
What if all the screenings are currently sold out? When tickets become available, they can sometimes go quickly. In order to increase your chances FilmMetro recommends signing up for the weekly newsletter and checking back on a regular basis.
Does a ticket guarantee my admittance? No. Advanced screenings are always overbooked to ensure the theater is full. A general rule would be to arrive at least one hour before the screening. However, if the film is very popular, you should plan to arrive sooner.
How do I know where the screening will take place? The location of the screening area will be displayed on the ticket you download. If there are any special instructions regarding the screening, they will appear on the ticket.
What time should I arrive? FilmMetro recommends arriving at least one hour before the beginning of the screening. No one will be admitted after the screening has begun. If the film is very popular, please plan to arrive earlier than one hour.
Where should I go when I arrive at the theater? When you arrive at the location, a line should be set up for the screening. Check with the theater manager or employees and let them know which screening you're here to attend. It's also good to check to make sure you are standing in the correct line.
Will there be security at the screening? Due to the increasing threat of piracy, all advanced screenings will have security. All bags are subject to being searched, and no recording devices will be allowed into the theater. This includes camera phones, voice recorders, and PDA's with cameras.
What if the screening is full and I don't get in? Don't let the experience of not getting in ruin your night. Have a secondary plan of action like dinner or pick another movie to see if this one is full.
Are group tickets available to the screenings? Group request are available for screenings and very likely if your group fits a similar demographic as the film. Group requests will only be answered if the studio wishes to provide your group with tickets. Request group tickets for a movie.
How early do I need to arrive for a movie screening? It varies. Sometimes people wait for 2 hours and don't get in, other times people show up 5 minutes before a movie screening starts and get a fantastic seat. While its difficult to give EXACT times, here is a general rule of thumb to ensure you make it into the theater. ==================================== Movie Screening: Arrive 1 Hour Early Popular Movie Screening: Arrive 2 Hours Early World Premiere: Arrive 1-2 Hours Early Popular World Premiere: Arrive 2-3 Hours Early (or just camp out overnight) ====================================
Do I need to show ID to be admitted to a movie screening? Yes, but this is rarely requested. The FilmMetro ticket states that the studio representative has the right to ask for ID. It is also FilmMetro policy that the name on the Ticket must match the name on your ID. So please make sure that your First Name and Last Name under Options are the same as they appear on your ID.

Thanks. It must have went to my spam folder because I tried to re-use the e-mail and it wouldn't let me. Which is weird because I get e-mails from Fox Searchlight already. Signing up with different e-mails resulted in success.

Does anyone happen to know if Harry Potter will be playing in the Detroit area? Preferebly Birmingham or Sterling Heights or areas around there. Novi is kind of far. Would appreciate any info you could give. I have a 12 half year old who would be estatic if I could take her to see this before it was actually released. Not to criticize your judgment, but you don't actually lose anything by sharing an RSVP code since they are all multiple-use, so there isn't much risk (unless I'm wrong about the multiple-use.)
