Waiting for the latest instalment in the Final Fantasy series? Great! You just keep on waiting, because Square Enix boss Yoichi "Imperial Hot" Wada has said it won't be out in the West until 2010.
Speaking with Reuters, Wada confirms that while the Japanese release of Final Fantasy XIII (which is exclusive to the PS3) will take place in 2009, the Western release - which will appear on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 - won't go down until at least April 2010.
Or, in a way I can put it to maximise disappointment, over a year away.

I'm not really shocked by this.

meh, the last good one was FF9 so I really don't care.

Oh no, the last great FF debate is a brewing.
Anywho, this is no surprise.Whatever, spreads out my gaming nicely and givces me a title for 2010. Just better not be as bad as XII was.

I never played XII as X was just horrible. I absolutely hated Tidus.
Correct the title please.
I will never play FFXIII
I dont like turn based games :(

Will anyone really care by then? The fact that it is not a PS3 exclusive really deflated a lot of excitement for the title.

Not surprising. When was the last time there WASN'T a ridiculous wait for a FF title. If it came out when it was originally announced for, THAT would have been a shocker.

didn't i call this already?
With the fact they aren't gonna work on the 360 port until they finish the PS3, you KNEW it wasn't coming till 2010

interesting, why would it being a PS3 exclusive make it any better or add any excitement to the title.
i realized I like modern western RPGs (FPS&RPG hybrids) alot more nowadays, so I'm actually looking forward to Deus Ex 3, Alpha Protocol and Mass Effect 2 alot more than FF13.

XII wasn't turn based. It played a lot like a single player MMO. Not sure what they'll do with XIII.

Tidus was a total chode. Ignoring him, the gameplay in X grew on me after a while. XII was VERY different from X.
And for the record, the last GREAT FF was VII. ;-)

I dont like turn based games :(I thought I would never go back to turn based RPG's but here I am deeply immersed in Persona 4. Dammit lol
Now about the last great one, personally, I think VII is hard to beat. I had skipped IIX because I didn't like the main character. IX was enjoyable because of the mini games and being able to challenge anyone to card games. X had a great environment but the "sports" mini game was something I looked forward to more than some parts oddly enough. XI didn't bother since it was only. XII, was ok the ending was kind of a downer and admittedly, the checkered system in the end made the game way too easy.
I'm looking towards picking up XIII from play asia with hopes of it having english subtitles ignoring localization of course lol

JRPGs used to be Sony's bread and butter. Maybe it is just psychological, but one can get more excited about a release if it is exclusive to a particular console. Since it is coming to Xbox, we know that it will not take advantage of blu ray either.

FFX was a masterpiece! It had an amazing story to go along with the best combat system for a FF game. I also thought that FFXII was pretty good. I played about half way through, but it was stolen and I don't want to put all those hours back into it.
I sad to hear that FFXIII won't be here till then, but I didn't expect it to be. I'm also sad to hear it going to the Xbox. It should stay will the PlayStation, where it's been since the epic VII.

It will take advantage of bluray. Square has stated that they'll finish development on the Japanese PS3 version, localize it and then port it to the 360 since the game started it development solely for the PS3. It'll be the case where the PS3 version will be on 1 bluray whereas the 360 version will be on multiple dvd's.

I used to love me some Japanese RPG's when I was a kid. However, after playing games like Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Jade Empire, Fable 1&2, etc they better step up to the plate this time around or my turn based rpg playing will stay on the Nintendo DS.

Asian seems to have a different taste in RPG than Westerners.
FFX was perfect in the eye of Asian while FFXII was regarded as total shit.

FFX was my first FF game, I liked it a lot
and why the delay? My guess is so to give time for their to be more consoles sold by both companies - they probably want a certain # (minimum) to ensure they sell a certain # (minimum). So, why not hype it up and delay it a couple of times?

They're not really working on the 360 version until the PS3 Japanese version is out the door.

and they are working simultaneously on 3 games of the same series.
I was wondering the other day if they will release PS3 English version first, or will they release PS3 and 360 English version at the same time. I was concerned for the first time about the English version because, from the screenshots they are using very little amount of Chinese characters :(.

Are you talking about hiragana?

They are using mostly hiragana and katakana in the screenshots, but not much kanji... kanji basically mean "Chinese characters".

my biggest problem with JRPGs is the tedious grind-fests has got to stop. Also they tend to be very linear.
i also feel the separation between exploration and battle gives a more detached experience in JRPGs

Doh... Not like I'll be fluent enough to enjoy the game by the time it comes out if they don't have subs.
edit: Wait, does that mean there'll be english voice?

I'm Asian and I thought FFX and FFXII were both total shit. I don't find the characters relatable and the cheesy love story plus save the world thing boring..maybe I grew up. Who knows?

Yes in English version.

localized version in english will have english voice actors, just like FFX and XII did.
homer, 360 and PS3 English localization is gonna be released simultaneously like thermo said.
Just no work on the 360 till the PS3 version is done.

Im azn as well and I thought FFX was great and FXII was total crap.....I could not believe how crappy the battle system was, the story was so boring and plain, I am surprised I stuck it through and finished the game..

FF12's battle system came from FF11
Now remember, FF12 was literally rebuilt like a yr before it released, if you recall all the delays/switch of teams.

FFX was my first RPG that I played, completed, and enjoyed every single minute with its cut-scene, environment, and great soundtrack. After completing it, then I bought FFVII(an expensive collectible item now) and finally bought FF/FFII for the PSX.
RPGs are fun but I prefer quick action/fighting games like SF or GoW.

The fact that it is not a PS3 exclusive really deflated a lot of excitement for the title.
As it should.
The fact that it's appearing on more than one console is a real difference maker.
I mean, I would have been excited about it if it were only on PS3, but since it will be on 360s as well, I just can't seem to get excited about what would otherwise be a hotly anticipated game for me.

I'm actually glad it's going to be on a platform other than a PS3. That game would be the only reason I get the system. :lmao:
