Fixed the dates, thanks :)
So the contest starts when.....?????
February 16, 2009 00:00:00 AM PST to March 1, 2009 23:59:59 PM PST
So if the contest doesn't start for a week, does that mean we have to post and sign up for deal alert again AFTER it does?
OBVIOUSLY
Its not obvious to the 1000+ ppl posting in this thread
WHEN IN ROME, DO LIKE ROMANS DO. WHEN ON SD, DO LIKE SD'ERS DO.
ANYWAY, THEY CHANGED THE PROMO DATE.

I'd say the Latitude E6500 beats the competition because of the SSD, the 9-cell, and the backlit keyboard.

The Latitude E6500 beats the competition because the processor is one strong processor and the screen is full HD.

Simple answer - quality and durability.
I had an HP that stopped working on me after it slid off my bed (well, pushed by a 4 year old actually) and hit a plush carpet floor.
But,
My last Latitude was dropped 40 feet out the back of a CH-47 onto a dry riverbed in Afghanistan in 2006. I opened up my rucksack... took it out of it's case... powered it up... DING ...it worked flawlessly.
Who needs a Toughbook?

Dell has always been my laptop choice for work, and while I prefer to home-build my PCs, I have owned over the years 4 Dell Laptops. I must say, the SSD sounds extremely tasty, and paired with previous performance of Dell laptops I would imagine it does wonders. Reading the review makes me think it's and overall great PC.

02-16-2009, 06:54 AM
This PC would be great for me! I love the high resolution LCD display(great for editing High resolution photos) and the fact it has a SSD. SSD should mean lower power consumption. Also, I am sure the 2.53 Dual Core Processor will pack a punch with a 6Mb cache!
I use to sell PCs and people use to bring in AD papers with Dell PCs and they would always ask me why they shouldnt go and just buy a Dell. I was a streight shooter and I told em "I can't give you a good reason not to go and buy one!" (probably one of the reasons i no longer sell computers)
I have owned Dell in the past and would love to own one again!

The Dell Latitude E6500 Laptop is better than other laptops for several reason, the most obvious is that it is a Dell. Of course the solid state hard drive and multiple wireless connection devices help push it past the envelope most computer makers usually stop at.

WOW!, What a premier piece of equipment!
Would fit right in with my mobile office!
It would be an easier question to answer by asking what DOESN'T make this supreme over the competition, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Built-in everything (BT, wifi, mobile broadband)
WUXGA screen
Backlit keys (for those late nights :sleepy: )
Of course, an AWESOME SSD :woot: :woot:
A 35W processor
An 85WH 9 cell battery (should have great usage times with the low power cpu)
The option to downgrade to XP sp3 :P
Then there is the looks on everyone's faces when they see me sporting this monster (but not in size!)  (priceless)
And then, its a Dell!
Now, who ranks supreme?
Dell E6500!

Dell has always offered me the best quality and performance at a decent price. I currently own an XPS 420 desktop and it has performed flawlessly.

The Processor and Display are insane for a laptop. The OS, Bluetooth, Wireless N, and battery are all great picks. Dunno why only 2GB of ram. The webcam, mic, and non-integrated graphics are all pluses. The SSD is a decent size. Seems full of quality parts. Vostro's always seem to be built pretty solid.

Beats the competition: what else has a T9400, a video card with its own memory, and allows an -upgrade- to XP... allowing Vista to come into its own for another couple years and avoiding endless 'what is this little driver problem' issues until Vista has matured.
This laptop has great specs!

The Dell Latitude E6500 beats the competition with it's amazing screen resolution (1920x1200), fast core 2 duo processors, and its blazing fast solid state drive. The E6500 also offers a 9 cell battery which gives a significant increase in battery life and the backlit keyboard makes typing easier in the dark. This complete package along with its well renown warranty offers more without completely emptying your pocket. Other business class laptops such as thinkpads don't offer the high screen resolution on a 15" or have the beautiful design of the E6500.

With the Latitude E6500 Dell proves it is not just a competitor, but that it can produce what is necessary to offer more than the competition. The SSD and capable processor alone boast value for the price tag; throw in the fact that it uses XP and other perks like mobile broadband capability and backlit keyboard and you have a machine that has the power to perform, yet also all the bells and whistles that make it attractive, efficient, and stylish. I'm currently running a Dell desktop that was purchased 4 years ago, and with only few upgrades it is still getting the job done for me. I've been pleased with Dell, but often tempted to look elsewhere for a 'business' laptop. With this model Dell has done enough to keep my interest and support. I would be thrilled to have one of these.

My company is now looking to purchase our 3rd generation of Latitudes. I've seen just how well these little machines hold up over the years. They're made well and represent excellent value for a small-business like ours. I just wish I could make my D-Series peripherals work with the new models.

Dell has a strong reputation for quality and proven support. The fast processor provides enough horsepower to perform intensive tasks on the go, while the solid state hard drive provide excellent reliability for data retention if the laptop should get jostled or dropped while travelling or at a customer site. The high resolution 15" screen allows for excellent application visibility while keeping the weight down and allowing the laptop to be small enough for easy transportation.

The latitude E series is a nice change for dell.
The docking port is a USB device. TThis allows for a decreased amount of motherboard failures due to improper docking and undocking.
The chassis is metal versus plastic on the D series.
LED backlighting allows for a more consistant color gradient then CCFL
Blacklight keyboard reduces eyestrain while working at night.
HDMI output allows for easy output to display media on an external source.
Latitudes default to lifetime phone support from a North American based technician.

Most computers run into bottlenecks such as hard drive speed, battery life, video, etc. This particular laptop is basically a cadillac with a strong V-8 in it. With the SSD drive and the DDR800, along with the video card and processor, it is an extremely robust laptop.

Dell is the best brand name in computers.
Dell brings the terms "affordability and value" in PC and laptops to the consumers and small businesses. I have owned Dell products before and everytime I made purchase I know I get a great product with values added to the package. Dell's business models in bringing great products and values with high efficiency of customer serivces, building and shipping their products in effective manners can only help build the brand even more so than their competitiors.
This product is sweet. Hopefully someone will enjoy it!

Both my brother and I have been very happy with our Dell laptops for years now. It's the first company I consider.

I currently use a 6500 with a traditional spindle and love it. It is more stable an performs substantially better than my old latitude D620. It runs 64 bit Enterprise Vista without any problems. Love it would choose it above all other 15in competition. The SSD can only improve performance... Woot Go Dell

Dell offers the best bang for your dollar! I've owned 3 Dell's and haven't had any problems in the last 7 years... Can't say the same for other computers I've owned!

The Latitude E6500 beats the competition because of it's use of SSD and the uncompromising quality of Dell..

nice backlight! 64 GB solid state would have to give sweet performance, especially paired with that CPU.
Dell also makes great laptops in general, perhaps second in quality only to HP (go ahead, disqualify!). In any case, employees come to me for computer recommendations and I invariably recommend Dell for best-value laptops or desktops
