Well, since having my Xbox 360 since August of '06, it has finally decided to give me the dreaded RROD's. It started giving me problems over a year ago with disc read errors, so I bought a fan for it, and this really helped. This fan however, would cause a single Red Ring to appear usually the first time or two you turn the xbox on that day. After that, it was fine.
I just turned my xbox on a few minutes ago, and start playing NCAA basketball 09. Within a minute, all of a suddenly, my xbox makes a weird noise (out of my speakers, not the xbox itself) and the screen freezes. So I turn it off, and turn it back on and at the Xbox logo, it is now freezing. Sometimes it will make this noise, sometimes it won't. After turning it on and off a few times, it is now giving me RROD's :( . Ii unplugged the fan, ethernet cable, and hard drive, and I'm still getting RROD's.
Now, If I let it stay off for a few minutes, it will bring the Xbox logo up, but then shortly afterwards, make the weird noise again and freeze. Then If I immediately try turning it back on, it RROD's. It seems like overheating, but the fan was on, plus my room is probably 65-67 degrees, and the xbox has been turned off for a few hours.
I'm thinking that I should open it up, clean out the dust and gunk, and maybe apply new thermal paste such as arctic silver 5 to the processor (I know small amounts, clean the old off completely). My friend suggested towel method, but I'm not too sure about it. anyway, it's getting a little late now, so I will fool around with it tomorrow.
Thanks!
