I'm a fairly new member after hanging out for quite awhile, but I've noticed a big increase lately in Freebie posts that are only good in the UK/etc. I don't know what percentage of SDers are from the US, but would it make sense to have a sub-forum for freebies offers not eligible in the USA?

I don't think that the number is high enough to be in a new sub forum
Also, noobs will get confused more quickly and drift to an area they did not mean to. and UK posts wont go in the subforum and mods will have a tougher job.
The mods have enough work as it is, (there aren't that many of them for such a big site)

One would think that since this is a U.S. site with 95% of the deals/posts for U.S. but some feel the need to just post anything, as irrelivant to the U.S. as it may be.
Post Whoring at its best.
I beleive the majority of SD'ers are US with a few Canadians sprinkled in.
The only foreigner Im aware of is Benno - ;)

I'm thinking that a completely separate website would be preferable. Certainly that's true for advertisers paying for the banner ads.

Not that Im trying to attack you Xnarg, and I may have read your post wrong so forgive me, but;
Are you suggesting a removal of the freebie forum?
If so, why?
Maybe a free .1 oz sample of facial creme isnt a worthwhile item in your opinion, but maybe a 'hi-tech-do-hicky' isnt worthwhile in my opinion. ( just an example, Im speaking in General. )
And before anyone "informs" me that this is a DEALS site, I am aware of that also.
Some of us feel something for free, no matter how insignificant, is worthwhile and a deal.
Just FYI...
If it werent for the freebie section, I would never have found Slick Deals, would never have refered my friends, family and associates to SD's, not to mention posted my "deals", I would never have click on banners or SD affiliate links, ect.. thus bringing money to the advertisers on SlickDeals.
And, Im just one person.
Now, if youre referring to the ga-zillon crap posts for the UK, brochures and leaflets taking up wasted space, then yes.. I agree, NOT WORTHWHILE for anyone.
But, we are waiting for the mods to resolve that problem.

What about US users that still have familly overseas the posts are free deals and are as valid as any other. There are not even that many so just skip reading ones your not interested. Yes theres alot of pointless ones like the wood stain samples or window blind samples skip them if you dont want them.

Are you suggesting a removal of the freebie forum?...Absolutely not! This thread is about UK and other foreign freebies, is it not?
I was suggesting that if there are enough country-specific deals or freebies, they should be dealt with on separate website, if nothing more than because of the different advertiser base for the site or the different language patterns involved (even for other English-speaking countries).
I think there's nothing wrong with having some non-US threads, but in order to establish a presence in a foreign market, a deal website needs to target that country intentionally .
Freebies should stay! Sorry for not being more clear.

lol
Jen_wv will leave faster than electricity if there were no freebies :lmao:
but I agree with xnarg, foreign stuff should probably go on a different site where the advertisements are also targetted to the UK etc

I see it's been awhile since anyone posted tomthis thread. I happened here by way of the poll. I just wanted to say that Canadian Freebies are of use to me because I have familt there, but....
I'd much prefer that they be located in a subforum or.. in a single thread that says "Canadian/UK/Interntaional/NOT The USA Freebies/offers/sweeps" That way there would be one place to go to to find all that stuff and the peeps who want to post it so they can 'get credit' or up their post count will not be buggin' the rest of the folks who want to find stuff easily.
That's all I have to say.

I know that someone made a "Master" thread for international freebies a while back, but it was never used. Considering that the only member who posted alot of international freebies is still on a SD vacation, I don't see the need to resurect that thread. But if & when the international posting beings again, then I'll put them in the thread.
But as of right now, I don't see a need for another sub-forum. AFAIK, there's only 1 or 2 members from Europe here right now.

Okay so I'm brand new but It's now been over a year since this thread was last written to, and having a quick browse and signing up for a couple of sites I got excited about to find they were just US only was disappointing and the prospect of searching through threads and reading oodles of site's terms and conditions kinda takes the fun out of the freebie search. Perhaps I'm just being lazy. Just thought that there may be a few more non US people now and new potential for an international sub section?
What do you think?
