I've actually been to these events before - they're fun and the movies are very good - what makes it a deal, though, is what amounts to a free lottery ticket for those prizes. If you're curious, here's an event description from their website:
Campus MovieFest, the world's largest student film festival, started eight years ago at Emory University. During this year's Southern Regional Tour alone, over 20,000 students received Apple laptops, Panasonic HD camcorders, and training to create short movies in a week -- all for free thanks to partners led by AT&T.
