Dell's Ownership of the Product. With respect to each Product delivered to you as part of a Beta Program, you agree that the Product is only being loaned to you for the purpose of obtaining the Feedback under the Beta Program. You do not own it or any rights to it but you may use it for the purposes of the Beta Program. All rights not expressly granted to you with respect to the Product (including, without limitation, intellectual property rights therein) are reserved by Dell. You agree that ownership of and title to the Product (including, without limitation, all intellectual property rights therein) will remain with Dell and/or its licensors. You will keep the Product free of all liens, claims and encumbrances. You will maintain the Product in the same condition as delivered to you, reasonable wear and tear excepted. You will be responsible for any loss of or damage (excluding reasonable wear and tear) to the Product.

so this means that i will have to return whatever they send me and if it gets lost in the mail i'm responsible....

wow! who knows, if they send me a desktop to "beta-test" i hope i don't have to pay return postage.

EDIT: FORGOT TO ADD

fyi, i did beta test for other companies (Netgear, etc....). They let me keep the routers/stuff they sent me as a token of appreciation for the beta test i did. (the N-routers they sent me were like $100 in stores and online)

Everyone "gets in", its just to be in their database. They will email you when there are beta tests that you can "APPLY" for. So just because you're in their database now, doesn't mean anything. It's the same as Centercode, maybe 2 or 3 people on SD will get picked. And as a member you might see 2 or 3 Beta Products a year, some never see any.

And yes, you will have to return the products in the original packaging. They send you a return label if you qualify for a beta test. When the product comes on the market they will send you the one you tested, which can take awhile ( sometimes months to a year )

Now as a big fan of Centercode, I can say they have been great to work with. I love the company and how this Dell one runs like Centercode.

I do wish that the email us "centercode testers" received which said it was exclusive for us had user specific links though. Its not really exclusive now is it? I don't blame the OP though, because someone else would have posted it anyways.

BostonGirl - you summed up the process very well. I did receive this "exclusive" invitation yesterday at 4:49 CST probably because my main platform is a Dell. So perhaps it's a fair statement that Dell users registered through Centercode received the exclusive invitation? Just thinking out loud. :bulb:

Furthermore, since my email did say exclusive, that was an indication for me NOT to release it to a public forum; however, I knew it would find it's way here anyway. I feel that everyone should have a fair shot at this and hope that the "non" exclusive applicants have an equal chance.

Regardless, you are correct of returning the products and it's only common sense since these products are not yet released to the public. They will in fact compensate you for the same product or something very comparable as you stated above.

Good luck to all of you who applied.

That's why I said in my first post on this thread, "It was exclusive...." It kind of goes both ways- if you actually got this email (like I did) I would think you would want to fill it out and not post it for thousands of others, because now you have pretty much diminished your chances of getting picked for a test. But I also know that's what this site is for, to share stuff. Oh well. :shake:

They know who was already in the database and who wasn't. It shouldn't make that much of a difference in the end.

Thank you for your interest in our beta tester community. Please find out about this exciting opportunity below.

Beta tests allow you to identify areas of further improvement for our products and services. We are looking for active customers and users who will confidentially test new products and services and share their feedback before they are officially announced.

You will have the chance to confidentially test a new product or service before anyone else knows about them.
Furthermore you will have the chance to directly interact with Dell's design teams to further improve our products and services.
You will be eligible for Dell Beta Test Incentives to recognize your efforts in the beta testing of a new product or service.

I agree. It has been over a year since I first joined them (I think they were called onlinebeta, or something like that back then) & I was not picked for any beta tests. My assumption for that was because I had done computer/electronics beta tests for other companies in the past & previously worked for some of the companies that they were doing beta tests for.

I ended up closing my account with them a couple weeks ago because of getting multiple emails per day for multiple days for the exact same beta test.

Just applied for all three! Hope I'm picked...I'm actually looking for a notebook right now, so it'd be neat to try one out (and though I'd prefer a netbook over a full-sized notebook, I'm not too picky).

Some info that might be helpful...I was curious as to what the incentives were for testing, so I emailed them a month ago and asked, and they said this:

Typically either Amazon or Dell vouchers – the eligibility and value depends of the participation of the respective beta testers.

I'm not sure why you even bothered replying to their email since I would imagine your chances are pretty slim getting in with an attitude like that.

The testers they are looking for would be ones that will offer constructive feedback and certainly not the immature insults you are throwing at them.

Well got an email about a Netgear beta project from Dell and guess what. It finally shipped last Thursday 7/2 and got it today 7/6. The hardware came in this morning and its great. The only question is where do I send feedback on this beta project? Never was told where to go to email comments?????? Weird maybe I just gotta send a generic email to the beta team.

you log onto the site and there will be a section for feedback for that product. Also you are not supposed to discuss the product on public forums or outside your household.

Like I said, they were stupid not to include the link. How can they run a beta test when they can't give people the link to apply?

They should want people who will speak their mind and not "yes men" like you seem to think. I would want to know what people really think about the product and not just have them tell me it is great.

omg I hate yooou! lol i want to test a lappy so bad! I pry won't get chosen for any of them. It seemed like all their questions were insinuating that we would be testing a smaller laptop, so I chose all the smaller screen sizes when filling out the questionaires on all of the surveys. I hope I get to test the laptops from these recent questionaires:O

Welcome to the Dell Studio 1745 beta test. You have been selected from over 3000 applicants :woot: and we are looking forward to receiving your feedback on this product. We are experiencing some delays in schedule and hence cannot yet predict the final kick-off date for this beta test.

We will open up the forums and feedback types in the tool as soon as the systems are shipped out. Also, we will notify you once the systems are sent out.

Thanks for your support,

I got the same email, that I am in for the 1745, maybe because I already own the 1735 which I love although the backlit keyboard has already had to be replaced. Wonder what the incentive will be, someone had said they send you the one you tested later to keep and then someone else said a gift card. Guess we will wait and see, can not wait to test!!

Congrats to all of you ,who are in. I been trying to get in these everytime I get invited to do the initial survey no such luck. Maybe they are still sending out letters and mine is lost lol only can wish hehe. But I am doing a pt with Netgear which is supposed to come next week. Now it would be cool to do both pt to get a real effect on the products .

just wondering, what beta test are you doing for netgear? Netgear beta test are fun because they actually let you keep the router/modem/etc that you test.... my friend got like 2 routers from them (draft-N and N router-modem combo) from them for free.......

you can try sending the Dell Beta Test manager a nice email asking if he could add you to the beta test (never hurts to try). did that once with netgear, and the manager was kind enough to let me in.

I recieved this email last week
Hi crystal,

Firstly, thank you very much for applying previous beta project(s), since limited sample quantity for each project, we cannot invite you to join project you applied, but we would like to reserve the priority to you for the next project.

We are conducting a test for a Wireless-N Modem Router which could provide better connections and functionality than your Wireless-G Modem Router or the Gateway provided by your ISP, also better range and better speed compare with your WiFi Modem Router. is a built-in ADSL2+ modem combining in a single and compact form factor to reduce cable and desk clutter.

I emailed dell about the beta test worth a shot thank you. Does anyone know, what you get for testing it. I have herd the actual laptop when it gets released, amazon gc to buy a laptop, and a dell voucher for one.

In my opinion (and experience testing with Onlinebeta in the past), there is no way in hell that that happens, no way, period.

Probably an Amazon GC in a much smaller denomination.

i tested a logitech mouse + keyboard combo a while back for onlinebeta and they prepaid shipping for us to send the beta back and then sent us a brand new combo a month or so later,,,,retail was about $130.....

Got to agree with above poster. There is no way Dell will send you a new laptop once the laptop is released deal. Most likely an Amazon gift cert. And Logitech usually sends you the product mostly likely a current model. It's dependent on the company. Netgear usually lets you keep the item being tested etc.

I just received a meeting this morning fm Dell that the first test machines are heading out to me

Does anyone know what we're supposed to do?
Even more important: what is the compensation?
Are we supposed to get the machines we test on?
Dell never said

Any ideas?

I tested a laptop not too long ago for them, unfortunately you have to return them and they give you amazon or a 100.00 off cpn towards their computers.

Christine,
That's a pretty poor
Considering that we're doing beta / op testing and will probably have to endure a ton of steps to follow through
Or are you supposed to treat it like a loaner for a month
Not a lot of details on the Dell Tester page

Thanks

I have not personally been involved with a Dell Test but load it with porn? :vomit:

Highly doubt that...... :shake: Furthermore, I don't even find this comical and chances are, Dell will not find it at all amusing.

Wouldn't that be a lot more work than what Dell is going to pay us for????

BTW: what is the reward for all of this work, anyway?
The amount of work I am willing to put into it is directly related to how much they are willing to reward me. :(
If they consider a 3 month free rental of a computer to be an apt reward, then they will get their computer back dusty and untouched :lmao:
Not even worth opening it up to load porn on it. Because that would actually mean that i need to do some work

BTW: I just got the first assignment for my laptop that's been lost to shipping. Update the bios. Oh joy
And still no idea what we're supposed to get out of this
