Didn't know if anyone else is anticipating this game as much as I am. As a huge fan of Xmen and the whole Marvel Universe, I've been following this game and it looks like it has some great potential.

I didn't see this posted and normally I wouldn't do marketing for Gamestop, but I wanted to pass along info for their exclusive Pre-order bonus for X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition (360 link (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/productDetails.aspx?sku=200628), PS3 link (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73829)) because it looks to be worth it.

Pre-Order bonus: Includes Weapon X Arena (4 Rooms)
Release date delivery / In-store pickup available

Reserve X-men Origins: Wolverine and receive GameStop exclusive codes to unlock Weapon X Arena:

* Ladder Challenge: 50 waves of enemies flood the room, each more difficult than the last. Destroy the hundreds of enemies charging Wolverine and find out what happens when you defeat the challenge.
* Custom Combat Arena: Activate a holographic console to customize any combination of enemies you can imagine. Face ten hulking Leviathans or a blend of towering WENDIGO's, Sentinel Prototypes, Machete Champions, Machine Gunners… enter a combat utopia.
* Environmental Simulator: Spawn in enemies and use any interactive environmental element from the game to your advantage - lab equipment, a ruined temple, spikes and trees... it's all fair game.
* Dismemberment Room: Use the computer console to create a hologram of a group of enemies inside a test chamber. Scroll through the hologram and select points on the body. Hit the big red button and watch as each enemy gets the selected body parts dismembered, highlighting random reactions and blood FX.

Available for online and in-store customers, while supplies last.

Online / In-Store Pickup Customers: Codes will be emailed beginning May 1st.

Store Customers: A rave card with redemption code will be available at time of game pickup.

This bonus sounds awesome and would increase replayability in this single player game. It sounds like an adaptation of the Danger Room doesn't it? I love including a horde/survival mode with Ladder Challenge and being able to rip someone's arm off and begin to beat everyone mercilessly with it :lmao:

Too bad the game does not support multiplayer. I placed my preorder; I hope the game does not let down

Here's a look at screens of the different rooms as well as a classic costume in-game unlockable:
(Confirmed costumes were the Brown/Tan, Yellow/Blue, and Black X-Force. I would have loved to see a "zombie wolverine" unlockable costume !)

Happy gaming

Good looks! Thanks for posting.

FYI to all you X-MEN fans, the film is nice. I saw it a week ago (missing a few special effects, but otherwise, all finished).

Worth seeing in the theater. Make sure to get there early; the opening scene is awesome (in my opinion).

Just wanted to provide an update with impressions and screenshots of some gameplay, Weapon X Arena and Costumes I took of my HDTV with a regular digicam.

(this from playing the 360 version)

Gameplay:
I am having a blast playing this game. The unlockable uniforms are easy to spot but once you find them in-game, you have to go to the "bonus" area in the main menu and then fight and beat the other wolverine dressed in that uniform.

Fighting is done really well. X = Light attacks, Y = Heavy attacks, B = Grab, You are able to lock on targets with RB and lunge at them with LB. When you connect with a lunge, you can immediately pull off a repeated claw combo to the face/head, leap in the air and finish them off by driving your claws in their skull, or stick both sets of claws in the chest and do an aerial flip while throwing them into the environment. Combos are easily chained between X and Y, and once you grab them, you can finish them off with a timed Y heavy attack in various (and violent) ways.

Wolverine can also perform counters by blocking right before being hit and then pressing an attack. Counter moves differ depending on what enemy you are facing and what weapon they are using. Countering some enemies will break their double bladed staff in two, others you will grab their gun and force it to point under their own jaw before watching their heads explode when you pull the trigger.

Special powers are unlocked as you level up and can be accessed using R Trigger and either X,Y,A,B when you have enough Rage.

Fighting is great as it is, but using Wolverines upgraded powers Berzerk, Claw, Cyclone, Spin while incorporting environmental kills keeps it from getting stale. Some of the screenshots below show Wolvering glowing red while on Berzerk and interactive things in the environment can been seen in green while using Feral senses (pressing Up on Dpad). Using a combination of attacks, I was able to completely F up a dude by unleashing Berzerk attacks then I grabbed his spear, lauched him in the air by sticking him in the neck with his own weapon, all prior to him being impaled on a statue at the end of his flight. I wish I could have uploaded a video of that :rotl:

Healing:
Healing is cool to watch. It's even cooler that wounds are dependant on where you are hit and by weapon. Obviously machetes will give you slash lines and regular guns and shotguns will give different size holes, but spikes and traps will leave marks on your body depending on where they hit. Your clothes also regen to an extent. If you are wearing the normal gear, your shirt will keep ripping off until you are don't have it anymore, while your pants always there. If you are wearing an unlocked costume, they will regen fully but blood stains usually stay stained. You can injury Wolverine to the point you see his rib cage and rest of his bones but regen will kick in soon and you can see wounds start to close while muscle is being constructed and then skin. It's almost "jelly-like".

Mutagens: (aka: Perks)
You find different Mutagens as you explore levels. These are basically the same idea as Perks in COD. You have 3 slots to use the same pool of Perks. Each perk can be upgraded 3 levels. I don't have the list in front of me, but some perks give you health / damage, increase rage/kill, build experience faster, added toughness, do more damage when health is low etc.

Reflexes:
Reflexes build like experience but are specfic to enemy types like Melee/Gun/Robots. As you kill each enemy type, you build your reflexes against them so you do more damage to them the next time you fight. There is a Mutagen to increase this stat too.

Graphics:
Graphics are really nice, especially the in-game cut scenes. The first 10 minutes is a GREAT opening to this game. The first cutscene gives you a glimpse how badass Wolverine can be, and when you get to take out the first chopper, its very cool to see exactly what he does.

I did however, experience Framerate issues but not so much during gameplay (maybe once out of over 7 hrs of gaming), but recently some of the cutscenes got bogged down and skipped over audio until I installed the game to the HDD. Afterwards I've had no issues with framerate. Futhermore, the cutscenes are inconsistent when you are wearing an unlockable costume. The cutscene will show you wearing the 'normal' gear instead of your unlocked uniform most of the time.

Now for the bonus Weapon X Arena:

* Ladder Challenge: This mode has grown on me. At first I thought it was pretty difficult, but as you level up in the game, you can bring all powerups into the entire Weapon X Arena or Danger Room as I call it (essentially that's what it is). So far my record is Wave 28 and it was really fun and satisfying to get even that far.
* Custom Combat Arena: Haven't experimented with this mode as much but it offers you the chance to take on anything you have encounted in the game (besides bosses).
* Environmental Simulator: Very cool room. Some of the pics below are from here. Using Feral senses, you can highlight the interactive objects and go to town. You spawn 4 enemies at a time so have fun impaling them and stuffing them in cement mixers. Unfortunately, you cannot stack bodies on one branch/pole/sharp instrument.
* Dismemberment Room: This room is probably the most boring of the 4. All you can do is set which body part you want to be dismembered, then you activate the console and watch 3 regular soldiers stand there and become dismembered at the same time, that's all.

That's all I can think of now. I haven't beaten the game yet but I am fairly far into it as estimated play time is about 10-12 hrs. I'm really happy with this purchase and for any Wolverine/Xmen fans, this game will definitely not disappoint.

If you have any questions or want to add more info please post here. Thanks for taking the time to read!

Cool thanks for the info. I think I'm gonna finish up Gears and start this up. I saw a game clip jumping through a sentinels head and that sold me.

Thanks, I haven't gotten around to seeing the movie, but I've heard mixed reviews. I still would like to check it out this weekend.

np, That part is pretty cool. I was really hoping to be able to rip off the sentinels foot with some well placed slashes or climb up it's back and claw off his head like in the comics. There are a few parts where you control your descent while skydiving; no need for a chute when you have perfectly good enemies to land on.

good work on the review

Thanks, my pleasure. I usually write reviews on new games and send them to friends over email, but might as well just post it here and send the link for everyone's benefit.

Sorry, it's a one time use code. I would hope it would eventually become available to everyone via the marketplace. It really is a worthwhile and fun bonus.

Word to the wise, if you beat the game and start a new game (like after unlocking Hard difficulty), all of your stats are reset and you will lose all of your abilities. The only thing you keep are the unlocked uniforms. I already started my 2nd playthrough :D

Something I forgot to mention, the game utilizes flashbacks so sometimes you will have bone claws, but most of the time you have your adamantium coating. If I get a chance I will upload pics of that.

This is a definite buy! Crap, now I have to get UFC and this. Wife is going to be upset this month.

No more demo plays for me, I can't afford it.

Best part of the demo is when Logan pulls the pilot out of the helicopter and sticks his head in the propeller blades.

The movie was horrible, aside from the major skewing of the storyline and the complete and total abomination that was Deadpool, the special effects in a lot of the scenes looked like they were done at that last minute, kind of like "oh shi-- wolverines gots claws rite lolz" although i will say his claws in this game look about as good as they did in this movie, if you dont mind major changes to the lore (although imo a movie labeled as "origins" shouldnt have major changes) then by all means go see it, but if not, you will be disappointed.

The upside is, this movie made X-III look stellar by comparison.
