I think it would be a nice feature if there was a way to filter out the posts that have been marked dead/expired.

This has been suggested and not implemented.

It's really hard to know for sure which deals are really dead.

Sometimes the deal is resurrected because the vendor gets more stock, or because someone was wrong to think that it was actually dead just because they couldn't get through.

There can still be plenty of discussion going on in the thread about rebates, shipping, technology, price matches, etc..

Sometimes, a deal will appear dead, and then someone will find an alternate source, such as another vendor, or a slightly different model.

People can easily look at the title for words like "Dead," "OOS", etc., and then decide if they want to skip or read the thread.

Who would be made responsible for deciding that a deal is dead? The original poster won't necessarily know, because he isn't going back every few hours to buy the same item again.

Perhaps some sort of voting system like have now only if the deal is dead someone will vote dead and after so many votes the deal is marked dead or it could just alert the mods to change the status.

I guess I'm just not seeing the benefit to a system that filters out deals that might be dead or might still be alive.

The only bad thing about that is if it is a price mistake than some people could get in on the deal quickly and than vote it dead. Once the vote has been reached and it would be closed, then other people miss out on the opportunity because some people are greedy.

Establishing criteria for such voting would be impossible.
