How about an affiliate section. I know this may sound like a bad idea. But I'm thinking that we should make an affiliate section for the forum. Not to spam but just post links ONLY. Let's face it there's tons of hot deals posted on slickdeals and 95 percent of them are online. Now that being said let's say we wanna help out a fellow slickdealer and I found a deal on a hard drive from monarchcomputers.com or whatever. I'm feelin the slickdeals feeling and wanna help out. So I do a search on the affiliate section of the forum and bam. 5 percent of what I bought goes to that slickdealer. Just an idea, I really like it though I'm lookin for feedback from everybody on this including mods
(especially mods).

I'm an affiliate with about 10 different websites, Also this may help out slickdeals. If people see that they are making some spare change thanks to slickdeals then of course the majority would give a couple bucks back of what they made.

Self-promotion & referrals are NOT allowed.
We are very strict about no referrals being allowed. Doesn't matter what kind of referral, if you both get something good out of it, or if its confined to one thread. We do not allow referrals here and there will be no arguments that will make us change our minds. Users will be warned and after two referral posts its a permanent ban.

That was taken from the rules thread in the hotdeals forum. Affliates are also a form of referrals from which you are making money. How fair is it for Mr.SD to setup and maintain this website with over 50,000+ users and you or someone else come in a take some of his profit? Not fair at all. It's just not gonna happen.

yeah...but you have to click his referal link which never happens because i've boughten about 7 things from slickdeals and never used the official link. I have never once bought anything off the front page. and i'm afraid I don't understand this.
"Affliates are also a form of referrals from which you are making money"
that was the point of my thread. the affiliates post there referal id and when somebody sees a deal in the forums they'd search up lets say keyword "office depot referal" and you'd do a fellow slickdealer a favor.

I'm probobly lost here why this is still a problem please help me out. Thx!!

:woot:

I actually think this would help out mr. sd with cash, I mean crap if i got 10 bucks from somebody clicking my referal I would, I don't know about you but I'd throw a couple bones back. That being said 50,000+ members I'm sure you'd make more money then the links your currently using.

I agree.
If anyone should be able to benefit it should be Mr. S.D. or whoever the hell set this up. SD may seem like a public space which we are entitled to to use for our own benefit, but to be honest, the forums are simply a service being provided. Bandwidth, servers, backing up, monitoring, etc all cost a lot of money, and using SD bandwidth and resources for your own gain is kind of unfair. Granted, SD does rely on its members to find the "really awesome deals" which continue to draw people to its website and allow it to profit from the VERY minimal and non intrusive ads it has.

But if you let people post affilate links, it is going to get out of control. (a) these 50,000 users are all going to post their latest iPod link or whatever the hell they want to profit from (b) 50,000 posts is going to eat up a TON os space and bandwidth and (c) NO ONE is really going to profit from this except user number 10,438 who decides to SPAM his or her links to the forum 80 million times. People WILL take advantage of it.

If you REALLY want to help out slick deals and make affilate money, take out an ad with SD's website.
