Add the ability to see which member gave a thumbs up or thumbs down to post threads.

why? :scratchh:

back it up with a good argument because i don't think knowing who gave  or :thumbdow: will make any difference if the post deserves either one.

Other than you having a grudge against that person who may not even know about it.

I think this would be a pretty strong disincentive to give thumbs down. And frankly, some threads deserve a thumbs down.

so your scared of the repercussions of someone knowing you thumbs downed their thread. :lmao:

I'm not, but other people will be.

What other purpose would this really serve?

Well if all they do is give thumbs down to everything you know how seriously to value their opinions when they post.

Are you suggesting that would devalue their opinion?

OP has a point. sometimes users do it out of spite. but still, my opinion about leaving it alone haven't changed.

On the flipside, the results would be distorted if you scare off timid reviewers and have only more assertive members rate threads.

Visitors should learn to take thumbs up/down indicators with a grain of salt. Such ratings are by no means a perfect review of the value of a deal, for many reasons. Adding user IDs to the mix does nothing to increase the overall reliability of such an indicator.

I completely agree!

Some ppl put a thumbs down only cuz they hate the guy or just for fun, and dont back it up...seeing their name makes them think twice before they post it, cuz they'll know sum1 might ask why they put it and then they can explain in a post

Showing names won't stop that.

People need to accept that thumbs up/down is just a rough approximation. Overall it seems to be working.

If you look a the threads with lots of up or down votes, usually the up/down votes are reasonably valid. Can someone provide links to threads where a large overall vote one way or the other is wrong? Then we could talk about specifics. Or is this a theoretical issue?

I think people get upset about the threads where there are few votes and just a couple of votes may sway the up/down appearance of the thread. Showing names won't increase the validity of the results when there are few votes.
