View Full Version : Suggestion to let OP edit topic

Once I post a thread (Lounge), I have NO power to change the topic, so I can go back in and edit things that I forgot or messed up, but if I forgot to give it a topic everyone is SOL (because it defaults to non-post counting "chat"). - That's just not right.
Note: This is based on my experience in the Lounge. Spurred from comments later in this thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/t135688.html?).
I just realized that I also do not have the power to change my OP to chat (from another topic either). My guess would be that the fear is that otherwise people would go back and switch this just to mess with peoples post count numbers (the way Lux does (examples Gorgar, & Goalie)). Maybe you could allow the change UNTIL someone else posts in the thread.
Once it's chat (and that is the default) ... it's always chat.
(Seams like a bit of a heavy handed way to guide the Lounge material to not count) - Perhaps the chat Icon could be separated and/or highlighted, or moved to the top of the page.
Mr. SlickDeals is great, all of the Mods are cool - this is not a rant, it's a suggestion to make things better. That is all.
is this such a big inconvenience? pm a mod to change it.

Already asked and suggested that. The answer... what ywc gave :)

I can understand not letting people edit poll questions, but why design a system where one can't easily edit other elements of one's own post?

To keep punny little monsters like you in line. :whip:Has it worked yet? :DSeriously, just PM a mod or modalert your OP with the request. :dontknow:It's not an issue for me personally because I ignore the topics and do not find them effective enough to be concerned about. It's more the idea of having a system that does not allow editing of something that users may reasonably expect to be able to edit.
I think this would be so when posts go into the dark land, aka page 2, you dont go back and change from CHAT to AUDIO and get the post count

I totally agree that we should be able to alter the topic icon... if it doesn't fit you know someone will mod alert it (we have so many tattletales ... j/k)

I just posted a "Hot Deal" and before it would let me post it it STOPPED and asked me to select a category ...
NOW THAT'S FAIR!
It is the PERFECT solution! Consistency always works! Why can't the Lounge work like Hot Deals?
********* Maybe I should have started a new thread here to get some attention ........ :idontknow ************************
The long version (read on, only if you dare)
Or is it that Mr. SD actually likes tricking all the cattle into using "chat"? Am I the only one that finds it funny that most Mods use categories for their threads yet most users are using "chat" (because it's the default). Even when it's a non-chat thread, countless examples.
- yet Lux currently has a thread about his Mom where he is "chatting" back and forth ... oh I know how it will be handled, Lux will just quietly change his thread to "chat" (this in NOT what I'm looking for) and MOST will never know ... I'm just looking for some fairness here, it really shouldn't be this tough. The system now is NOT fair or consistent and although many may not outwardly notice it, I think the site is suffering from it. I think it has a lot to do with all of the mentioning of negativity lately. ...... just my $.12, carry on people, carry on.

This is a valid question stimpy raises. Why doesn't the lounge stop you before you post. Would this be too difficult to set up or is it not in the spirit of the lounge (pw alert)?
Do tell...

Judging by experience I would say YES.
Just one example: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=1862253&postcount=8

We can't modalert our own OPs. I only know because I tried to do that once, and the button wasn't there!

 How did they do that? :idontknow
Since what CookieMonster said is true.

I have already PMed long time users and asked them why they don't choose anything but chat, they will say they forget, they have also commented that they're not going to bother a Mod with something so small (I will PM Kramer and ask him why he didn't ask for his thread to be changed)
- no one has answered yet as to why it can't be like Hot Deals.

people mod alert on the behalf of others. all it takes is a post can someone mod alert this and say to change to .... and its done.

I agree with Stimpy. It would be easier for everyone if the catagory system worked in the Lounge like it does in Hot Deals.
Why should I have to bother a mod anytime I want a thread topic changed?
