Any Stop & Shoppers out there? Interested in helping to get this thread up and running? Thinking with Stop & Shop's Double coupon process there should be some real Slick Deals out here.

Thanks for your help!

I also agree w/ Graybay on keeping it as one thread..

Quite often a GIANT shopper posts a deal that is usually honored at S&S and we wouldn't have known about it.

Thanks for the cat info. Most cats are in the $0.50 - $2.00 range, especially the ones that have a yellow (formerly pink) sign on the shelf. There often seems to be too many of these small offers to track, that's why I like this web site.

I agree, very helpful to have the info posted here!

I am used to monster cat deals at Shaws, I've been spoiled over the last few months!

Looking for your unofficial opinions / vote, I know some of you expressed an interest in having different threads.. one for Giant & one for S&S. If you could post your opinion here or PM, I would appreciate it!! TIA

Thanks for everyone that gave your feedback. Now its time for the official vote. Even if you placed your initial thought here, please make it official here..

o A customer may double a maximum of 4 identical manufacturer coupons. For example, if a
customer purchased 5 boxes of Cheerios and presented 5 manufacturer coupons for 50 cents,
the first four coupons would be doubled to a $1.00, the fifth would only be redeemed for 50
cents.
o Up to an additional 12 identical coupons/items will be redeemed at face value for a total of 16 identical coupons.

Depending on how many Q's you have, maybe do multiple transactions at SCO?

Hi Friends,
Been a long while since I've been here. I came on over to visit thanks to RamaLama updating NHgrammy in the Shaws thread that the steamers are on sale at S&S for $1. I have a few  $1.10/1 Qs that I've been looking forward to using. I am actually very low on frozen veggies right now. Thanks to MastiffMom & Dawn for the info on the # of Q we can use at once. I'm looking forward to buying 16 in each transaction. I'd never do that at Shaws. Should I expect an overage of $0.10 each or does S&S not do that? Thanks!

Hey Ekrah!

Not sure w/ that coupon... but I bought the Progresso Soup for $1 at two different stores and used the $1.10 printable.. one transaction I got the overage no problems. The second store the last coupon wouldn't scan until keyed in at the depreciated remaining total...

Thanks Dawn. I'm going to plan for an overage on the first transaction and hope for the best.

Great to "see" so many familiar "faces" here. I'm with MastiffMom though on not loving the S&S deals too much. The store is a bit out of my way, but I'll go once in a rare while if there is a good deal going on. However, this steamer deal is reminding me that I need to check in here more often. I've probably missed a few nice sales since I've had my brain exclusively into Shaws.

perhaps i will be the only vote for keeping giant & s/s threads merged. i think a lot of the same things are on sale and the more minds we have working together, the better, i think. this thread isn't terribly active as it is, so if we were to further parse it up, i imagine it would be like the shopper's thread-- needing resuscitation.

what she said

btw, looks like most of us who want one thread are the Giant shoppers.. If the threads do get separated, maybe we could just combine the DC area threads into one - Shoppers, Bloom and Giant  I think AZ (or was it Oregon??) peeps have a combined thread for their grocery stores..Atleast the threads might see some action that way..Just a thought..

I was never able to find out that answer so I just played it safe and used sale prices.

Folks, be careful on the Muir Glen deal. The soups that qualify for the sale are marked with a regular price of $2.99 on the shelf, but at a price check machine, the regular price showed up as $2.49 (the price check machine shows regular and sale prices separately -- the soup showed up as regular price of $2.49, no sale price). The tomatoes have a regular price of $2.39. So you basically need to buy a combination of 9 of them to reach $20 and get the instant $5 off. I have enough $0.75 coupons to get 9, but I was concerned that not all 9 coupons would double, so I didn't do the deal.

I know at Superfresh, there is a limit of 4 like coupons, but in actuality, the limit ends up being 4 like coupons for 4 like items (so if you buy 4 of one type soup, and 4 of a different flavor, you're OK). Does anyone know if that's how Giant's machines are programmed?

Also, just FYI, the Muir Glen items were in a separate healthy foods-type aisle in my store, not with the other canned soups and tomatoes.

Nice, thats great news!! Thank you for posting that info! The flyer clearly states that only the select items in the shaded area are included... (all of the oral products)

Did anyone else buy anything besides oral care and get a cat back? This could get interesting.

Ok so I have a silly question...the $10 cats from the p and g deal...do they work with no beeps at SCO even if you don't have one single item that is greater than 10, but your order totals over 10 w/ smaller items?

I think that you can buy many small items that add up to $10 because the ad. said that it saves you $10 on your next shopping trip. If it beeps then just call for help and they will push it through. I have done it before. Otherwise just add a $10 gift card if you are buying under $10 worth of stuff and you will at least have the balance transferred to the gift card. But you will not be able to do it at the SCO because the GC need to be activated. That way you can use the balance any time you want to. HTH

Didnt look to see if this was posted yet (my grandmother died 1.5 weeks ago, and I dont feel like reading back that far):

Got a $3 Cat off any Natures Promise purchase for purchasing $10 worth of Natures Promise products (between 1/30-2/26).

I bought 2 half gallons of milk, veggie sticks and some crackers.

Anyone know if these roll?

Instead of paying at SCO, you can hit 'pay cashier' and then go pay at CS (or some stores have a special SCO cashier -- register is set up by the SCO's). Usually when you hit 'pay cashier' a little "ding, ding, ding" goes off......I assume to alert the SCO cashier that you have not paid for your order yet.

People use it when their credit card won't scan is isn't accepted. Also, if you're buying an age-restricted item (alcohol, tobacco), you can choose this option instead of waiting for a cashier to come check your license. I used it when those stupid $4 Glade cats wouldn't scan or if I have Q's that won't scan.

It's a STORE COUPON so here are the rules for how it gets applied:

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15824598&postcount=1721

It won't beep, because it's a STORE Q. MANUFACTURER CPNs over $5 (I think that's the threshold) will just flat out not be accepted at the SCO unless you have the attendant put it through. (FYI, manufacturers' Qs over $5 at a regular register will beep for the cashier and they will have to key in the dollar amount. I assume this is an anti-fraud measure. I assume the threshold is $5, as the only mfg coupons I have used greater than $5 were for $10, so the threshold could be as high a $9.99 before it has to be keyed in.)

Per the terms printed on this particular coupon, you can't use it for gift card purchases. It is not encoded to prevent that, however. ;)

Some (but not all) stores will allow you to purchase GCs at the paystation so it's best to check with attendant first. Hold your $10 coupon until the end. When you're done scanning your order and all the other coupons, select "pay cashier" as your method of payment. You get a little ticket to take to the register. Bring that, your coupon and an unactivated GC to the register. Give the cashier your ticket and the GC, then hand her the coupon after she has scanned the GC so your total is sufficient for the coupon. She probably won't read the 347 words of restrictions P&G included in really tiny print, and bang, there's your coupon applied to a GC at the SCO. Completely pointless IMHO, unless you really gotta have the GC.

BTW, ALL the S&S store ads, cat offers, AND the darned coupons themselves all say "Off your order." So it's always a mystery until you get the coupon in hand and you know how to decipher them. But, unless you're a smart SDer and you've read up on this thread, you'll get confused and irritated when certain S&S cats aren't taking the $ "off your order" as you think they should. A&P cats usually specify whether the coupon is good for an item or good for the total order, so the confusion is eliminated for the unsophisticated shopper. But now that you've read all this, you're a sophisticated shopper and you won't have this confusion or irritation. Right?:D

Will "unrestricted" STORE or 992 coupons apply to postage stamp purchases (at a regular checkout)?

Or do I have to get a GC first?

BTW, lottery tickets can only be purchased with cash - no gift cards, no credit cards, just good ol' greenbacks. I don't gamble, but I tried to buy some with a GC for a gift. This may be non-news to most of you, but it was a first for me.

I tried to buy a gift card and some clearance items to match coupon and items but still the register took only one catalina.

Sorry for bumping such an old post. I think I missed it between postings - you know, like when you take 30 minutes to write a reply while answering the phone, making lunch, and then hit "submit" while everyone else is posting their replies.

I, too, have had problems with clearance items and coupons. I have no idea what the rhyme or reason is, but I'm guessing that the clearance item gets some price over-ride in the POS system, perhaps like a manufacturer's coupon is automatically applied to it, thus preventing you from applying another. After getting burned two or three times with clearance items, I stopped buying them, so I really couldn't tell you what the pattern or rule might be. I would think that at a regular register, the cashier could just force it through, but that may affect her ability to scan the other coupons as it sometimes does at the SCO.

I got this today - bought 2 1/2 gal milk and bread ($10 + total) - nice surprise!

on the other hand, my $5 never came off for buying $20 Cascadian/Muir Glen :( (based on shelf prices- none on sale) <----- got frozen veggies, canned tomatoes, 1 box of cereal - definitely $20 +

I am still confused if the total for these offers are based on sale prices or shelf prices - tried to get $10 PG with 2 large Herbal Essences ($6.99 each shelf) and 2 Satin Care shave creams - but nothing printed.
However, later I bought a large Pantene (both shampoo and free full-sized conditioner in a bonus pack!), 2 Olay 2 packs soap, 1 Head and Shoulders, 1 Secret flawless and I got it - also had Bounty and Tide, but don't think they were relevant.

And has anyone tried the new handheld scanner? What's your take on it? I'm on the fence, but see benefits once I get the hang of it - but hope I am not taking someone's job in the process!

Cashier claimed there never was any $5 off on there. Customer service gave me $5 cash but I don't know if I'll try the deal again. I did get an extra $1 off Tropicana - just can't use it with the kids - they'll ring up the entire store!:omg:

I'm going to go back and see if they can look at the Cascadian offer - I did use q's but it doesn't say anything about it in the flyer and nothing was on sale, so definitely fit the stated criteria.

Keep and eye out for the Pantene bonus packs - they are the family size shampoo and conditioner wrapped together for $5.99 and work for the $10 off PG - very good buy, imho. I tried to use the $1/2 q but it did not work - need 2 packs.

I'll answer my own question in case anyone is interested. I went to Giant tonight, and it appears that they don't even sell the single packs of GE CFLs (except for speciality bulbs like flood lights and 3-way lights), so I don't think they're having the deal.

Yes they do. They are like digital coupons built into them. You can either scroll through them or, as you are shopping, the scanner makes a funny noise and shows you one. Some of them aren't so bad. Besides, the scanner guns are fun anyway, you can price check the entire store.

Caused mayhem today with one of S&S's *own* coupons! ($4.50 off 3 boxes of Kellogg's cereal.) Tried scanning it and got the "coupon not accepted" message, cashier tried to put it through with the manager's card, but it still wouldn't work. In the end, I had to go to CS to get it all sorted out, and got the $4.50 in cash. Despite the time involvement, it worked out well! With this week's Kellogg's promotion, I got 3 boxes of Frosted Mini Wheats for $0.14 :woot: (also had a $1/2 Kellogg's manuf coupon to use). There's a certain someone in my house who can devour this stuff!

For the Muir Glen deal, just go ahead and pay using no Q's. Get your $5 deducted instantly. Then take your Q's to CS and say that you forgot to scan your Q's (or say you forgot to give them to the cashier). My store will do a "coupon order only" and hand you cash! They may want to check your receipt and/or your bags to make sure you bought the right items. This way you don't have to worry about your Q's knocking off your $5 discount.

Right?:D

why are these P&G catalina coupons beeps. coupons started with 21-xxx and I had 21.xx in total. (3 tylenol none $10+). First coupon scanned didn't work. Manager came and said based on "probited by law" wording on the coupon, these cannot work on tylenol, thats funny how he argued. I also tried to buy Gerber food with $10 coupon didn't work, manager has to come over and enter as a grocery coupon. just wierd.

so if we scan something and put it in our basket and then decide we don't need it, how do we void it out? how does this whole hand held scanner thing work..always keep thinking I should try it and then chicken out..

There is another button (there is only a couple buttons on the whole thing) that says "Remove Item" or something to that effect. You click the button, then go scanning things you no longer want and they get removed.

Now, the trickiest part of the whole scanner business in my opinion is produce. They have these "Weigh It" stations where you basically print out your own labels. That involves either finding the item in the catalog (kind of like at the SCO) or entering its code. It's not hard, but if you are getting 10 different produce items, it can get annoying.

The whole thing is pretty simple. Walk into the store and scan your card at the display. One of the scanners will start blinking. You grab it and some bags. Walk around the store and scan and bag as you go (the scanner even keeps a handy tally of how much you have spent and you can scroll through the list to see what you already got). When done, walk to the SCO and you will see a piece of cardboard hanging on it that says scan here to end your order. Scan that and then place the scanner in the metal rack by the SCO. Then, scan your card at the SCO and your entire order will appear. At this point, you can either scan more stuff (if for some reason you needed to) or scan your coupons (those don't work through the hand held scanner). It's pretty much a standard SCO checkout at this point.

I don't think you can use the $10 cat at SCO without cashier intervention simply because it's such a high value Q. It's a loss prevention thing.

I'll answer my own question in case anyone is interested. I went to Giant tonight, and it appears that they don't even sell the single packs of GE CFLs (except for speciality bulbs like flood lights and 3-way lights), so I don't think they're having the deal.

Has anyone tried the BOGO Q for the Oral-B Stages toothbrushes at S&S/Giant (for the P&G deal)? They are coded with the "14" and I think these automatically deduct the price of one without cashier intervention (at least they did with the Glade). Just wondering if it takes off the actual or sale price and if the price of the "free" toothbrush still counts towards the $20 you need to spend. Thanks!

They probably don't. I know when I lived in MA, a lot of the local S&S's had them. Around where I am now, I think maybe 1 or 2 of the many, many Giants near me have them. The concept is probably a couple years old, but I think they had a long trial period.

I think Bloom has them also, but they require you to go to CS to get one (and make you take a training course, apparently).

Of course aspirin is not a prohibited item. As I've stated previously, STORE coupons work on just about anything EXCEPT certain HBA (like aspirin, allergy meds, etc.). I'm speculating that because there is a risk that one item in a particular category may be "prohibited" (in this case OTC pharmaceuticals), then they just filter out the entire category. The manager was just trying to provide what would sound like a reasonable explanation and he was correct to credit your order for the coupon.

I don't think you can use the $10 cat at SCO without cashier intervention simply because it's such a high value Q. It's a loss prevention thing.

$10 STORE coupons have worked at the SCO, w/o intervention at every single S&S I've been in. I don't think S&S gives local management any discretion over these policies. If someone has evidence to the contrary, please post.

$10 MANUFACTURER coupons require intervention at the SCO. At the regular register, the cashier needs to key in the amount of the coupon as confirmation. That's the extent of their LP efforts.

you can at my S and S SCO as long as you have a single item over $10...no beeps

Inidivdual items don't matter for STORE coupons. It's the TOTAL ORDER of QUALIFYING items that counts. They can filter these things a little bit, but not with too much granularity. FYI, this particular coupon (disregarding the fine print) works on gift cards and bottle deposits, but not sales tax.

Anyone in New York want to see if these work on liquid dairy (that's "milk" to you)? If so, that would indicate that S&S can (and does) do regional filtering.

Maybe we should make a list of what can be free with the P&G $10 back.

Crest toothpaste - Buy 8 at 2.50 each $20). Use 8 coupons of 1.50 off crest toothpaste or use the BOGO coupon for Crest kids.

WIth the 1.50 coupon, you pay $8 and get a $10 catalina.
With the BOGO, you pay $10 and get a $10 catalina.

When to S & S yesterday and had a good run. Bought

4 bottles of pink grapefruit juice $2 X 4 = $8
2 bags of 5lbs grapefruits = $2.99 X 2 = $5.98
2 boxes of fruit loops = 2 X $1.50 = 3
2 boxes of pop tarts = 2 X $2 = 4
Total = $20.98

used
4 MFQ $1 off ocean spray grapefruit juice = $4
2 free bags of grapefruit = $5.99
1 MFQ of kelloggs = $1.50
2 peelies for $1/1 found on the pop tarts boxes = $2
Total coupons = $13.49

Paid $7.49 oop. Paying one third of the price. It is great to get things cheap for once especially things that we actually eat instead of stockpiling them for charity.:woot:

Thanks and repped! I was wondering if the OS mfcs would work with the free bag deal, now I know! And yes, nice run!

6 stages toothbushes = 2.50 * 6 = $15
2 kids tooth paste = $2.50 * 2 = $5
2 bottles Ocean spray grapefruit juice = 2 * $2 = $4
1 5lb bag of grapefruits = $2.99
2 pop tarts = $2 * 2 = $4
Total = $30.99

use
3 BOGO stages toothbrush Q =$7.50
1 BOGO kids toothpaste Q = $2.50
2 55cents ocean spray juice Q = $2.20
2 55 cents pop tart IP Q = $2.20
Free 5 lb grapefruit = $2.99
coupon from p & g = $10

The thing about BOGO is that you don't have to scan your card to get a freebie. I forgot about that this morning when I was doing that deal and dutifully scanned my card before I started scanning the items that I bought. Giant's policy used to be posted on their website (and may still be). It clearly said no internet coupons for free items.

This is all I found regarding coupons for Giant on the site

Coupons
What is your coupon policy?
Double coupon policy: We double the savings marked on manufacturers' cents off coupons up to $.99. Any coupon $1.00 and over will be redeemed at face value. In cases where the double coupon total exceeds the value of the item, the offer is limited to the retail price. Lottery tickets, cigarettes, tax and items prohibited by law are excluded.
Do you accept internet coupons?
We happily accept Internet coupons except in situations where manufacturers have alerted us to specific fraudulent coupons.

Really cute.. they have a GAB > Grocery Advisor Board you can sign up for HERE (https://www.grocerygab.com/S.aspx?s=155&r=BSYTo3tSCUSmbtITzk3gxw&a=225&fromdetect=1)

I scanned the first coupon after I scanned the first razor. Do you think that caused the problem? Should I have scanned the 3 razors, then my card, then the 3 coupons?

Any idea?

Pack consisted of 5 boxes of Mac & Cheese & One box of Jello Pudding Singles. On the box was a $2.00 peelie wyb Mac & Jello. On the back of the Jello Box is a $1 Q to use at a later date. IMO, not a bad deal @ $1.99.

Excuse what might be a stupid question, but I'm trying to avoid unnecessary running around distant stores with a four year old in tow -- on the Muir Glen deal, does anyone know if any S&S carries the Muir Glen tomato sauce and if so, how much is it? Mine doesn't, but it doesn't carry lots of things, so that doesn't mean much. I know the tomato sauce is about a $1 a can at Whole Foods so if the price was anywhere in that neighborhood, it would make quite a nice deal.

I just got back from S & S and I did 3 separate transaction using the $10 cat that I got yesterday. As yoyo2 said if you scan your items first and then the coupons before scanning your card you will get the original price off the BOGO coupon. I did that and all 3 times my total was just over $10 and I paid less than $1 and got another $10 back! :)

I bought Kid's crest tooth paste, Old Spice High endurance deo., Satin care shaving gel, gillette series shaving gel and foam and they all worked.

I used crest wild expression bogo q, satin care $1/1 q, Old spice $1/2 q, and gillette series $1/1 q that will expire on 2/28. I used the outage from the bogo q to off set the old spice deo. because the deo. was 2/$4.

I still have my $10 to roll!! I hope that next week they have some useful stuff for us. I think that I will not need to buy shaving stuff the whole year. Between this run and the gillette power shaver I think I am all set!

FYI: I got my local stop and shop ad and the soup is NOT B2G2 Free.

It simply says "less than half price" and there is no indication of any buying and getting of stuff free.

However, i hope less than half price is close to $1.10 as that is what my coupons are good for.

Weird week at S&S for me. Went twice with main goal of getting the GG steamer veggies using the 1.10/1.

Store #1 on Monday:
Completely wiped out of the GG steamers. Seriously not even one bag. Got a raincheck. Bummer. S&S is kind of out of the way for me. Stopped in a couple of other stores in the area at the same time to make my trip worth it.

Store #1 today;
Still no GG steamers. Left without buying anything.

Store #2 today:
Found only 7 bags of GG steamers. Used 1.10/1 and got overage of 10 cents on each at SCO. However, the 7th Q would not scan. I needed assistance from the guy, then he needed assistance from the higher up guy. Not an "under the radar" transaction at SCO.

In the same order, I bought 4 single packs of Trident for 1.29 each using the .75/1 Q. The Q automatically adjusted during doubling to make it free, but no overage.

Here's the best part...at the end of the transaction, I got a CAT for $10 off you next order of $10 or more. I was like  :woot: I was trying to think what the heck I bought that triggered that great "gift". Then, I realized it says "rewards" on it. I must have met some kind of threshold of purchase $$ for their reward program and didn't realize it. I didn't think I've done enough volume at S&S over the past months to warrant such a high value CAT. I really need to read up on their program I guess. Anyway, I'm thankful for it. I was out of time so didn't use it today. It expires in early March, so plenty of time.

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention, I went blinkie hunting while I was there. I saw all of the ones that Ruby mentioned, but the barcodes on them started with a "9" so I passed. Ruby, do yours begin with a 9 or a 5? If 9, do they double anyway at S&S? That would be great. I think I remember it the same way as Potter about the .45/2 ones from S&S a few months back not doubling at Shaws because of the dreaded "9".

If the orignal price is over $1.10, just scan the items, then coupons, THEN your card. It will not only "attach" itself to the item, it usually gives you overage as well. This worked for me when the Glade was 1/2 price. The OP was $3 and the sale was $1.50. I had $2 coupons, which would beep because they were more than the $1.50 price. Well, I scanned my card last and the coupons worked great beforehand. Hope this helps!

HELLO !

Well I am happy to report that Giant triple coupons have been spotted in certain circulars of the week of Feb 13-19. This time, they've listed all the areas in which triple coupons are available and *supposedly* they will only work at those locations  Riiight, giant. Then again, you never know.

Link w/triple coupons and list of locations featuring them (at the bottom in the yellow box)

Can anyone figure out what the common link is among these locations? I know some of the ones that have had the total renovation are not on there, so I'm thinking maybe these are high-competition areas ? Beats me.

I know some of the Gatorade powder mix packets were being discontinued at one of my stores. They were something like 33% or 50% off. I wasn't paying much attention, so I have no i9dea on the price. Of course, I don't think the powders taste as good as the "real" stuff myself.

http://www.giantfood.com/savings/circular.htm?storeid=0745

Can anyone figure out what the common link is among these locations? I know some of the ones that have had the total renovation are not on there, so I'm thinking maybe these are high-competition areas ? Beats me.

I know some of the Gatorade powder mix packets were being discontinued at one of my stores. They were something like 33% or 50% off. I wasn't paying much attention, so I have no i9dea on the price. Of course, I don't think the powders taste as good as the "real" stuff myself.

really? they have those little individual packs of 8 that are ridiculously priced (worse than the 2 gallon ones)...so its no surprise they are clearancing them out b/c they were a ripoff

even at 50% off its expensive

unfortunately i dont get the paper, so no coupons for me :(

I understand! I was so psyched not to have to try and untangle everything anymore .. maybe I'm just not too bright, lol! Even trying to understand a lot of the promos that do apply to my stores (S&S) is a challenge!

Here is the post a few posts up about triples at Giant (I'll say it again ... U Lucky Dogs!!!! It's been years since the days of triples here!!! <sniff> )

It is a big challenge, you are not alone! So many different stores, different sales, different coupon policies, different sale dates! So much to keep organized!

Thanks for letting me know! Guess I didn't notice that post, apparently I auto-tune out when I see Giant in a post! That is awesome though!! I think I would :faint: if I heard S&S was having triple Qs!

These blinkies are best for use at SHAWS this week , but found at Stop & Shop - on Charles St in Malden just a few minutes ago ....

.75 off Kraft or Polly O 2% milk cheese ( but will at SCO & cool cashettes ) - on sale at SHAWS 2/$5- $1cheese

.45 off 2 Healthy Choice cans or bowls ( $10 for 10 at SHAWS and still producing a CAT through 3/4 NICE... (they are DND ( but will at SCO & cool cashettes )

.75 of Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers...

I wish I had a ton more P&G Q's... big  to the poster who mentioned the BOGO Q's and scanning the card at the end... work perfectly ! AND the S&S SCO accepted the previous $10 CAT W/ NO cashier intervention, What's that all about ?

The blinkies I got at S&S start with a 9 and won't double. Yours start with a 5? I didn't think they had any more of those at S&S (or Shaws).

I've been collecting the .75 Kraft blinkies, but they are coded "00" for value, which means they beep and the cashier has to input the value of the Q. So YMMV on getting them doubled. Used them at Safeway last week when they had their 8 oz. bags of cheese for $1.99. Cashier punched in $1.99 for each Q! I told her no, I think you're supposed to put in 75c and she said no, it's asking me for the price, and the price of the cheese is $1.99. I told her I didn't think that was right. She tried to void it and couldn't. (She had done all 8 Q's this way.) Called the manager, but we waited and waited and she wasn't coming. I told her I needed to pick up my daughter. So she had me pay and said I could fix it at CS. Then manager finally shows up and cashier explains and manager says (to my total surprise!): "This customer should not have to wait because of your error. You've inconvenienced her enough." Then she apologized to me and told me I could keep my 8 free packages of cheese. The one and only good experience I've ever had at Safeway.

I wonder why Kraft coded them "00"???

Oh, and I was going to mention, the BOGO specials at S&S this week are shown as half-price in my Giant ad. Same items, just half price instead of BOGO.

MD Giant is not tripling coupons this week.

I counted several MD locations which have the tripler coupons in them. It is not all giants that have them, it is specific ones, and they are not advertising it except for in the circulars of those stores. YMMV on using the tripler Q's at other locations, but I have successfully done so in the past. The tripler coupons are store coupons, after all, so there's no way of programming them to work only in specific stores.

The Swirl bread was priced at 3.69 & it appears thaty had just restocked the shelves, including peelies on all pkgs!

I got 2 pkgs. of Cin Swirl for $1.49! Such a great price for that bread!
I also grabbed some of the Dannon Yogurt 6/$2 - used a $1 Blinkie, so I payed $1 for 6 yogurts!

About all I was interested in there this week, but worth a quick stop.

Thanks Bee for the triples matchups. It won't let me rep you.

There were a lot of good $0.75 coupons on the bettycrocker coupons.com version. The best part about that site is that they don't try to trick you with printing advertisements on each friggin page like smartsource does. they just print all the coupons you selected on one sheet--no fuss! These are all listed in the Printable Coupons thread, but the ones that I printed were the $0.75 off cookie crisp, $0.60 off cheerios snack mix, and $0.75 off 1 6-pack of dannon yogurt. Haven't been to giant yet to check on the prices for some of the stuff (Besides the cereal).

I did two triples transactions today. Here are all the free items I found:

Easy Mac Herb Marinara on clearance for $0.66/each. Use $0.75/3 coupon. NOTE: this coupon is coded incorrectly. It will only take off the price of two. If you follow the HT thread, there are other options explained therein.

Wish Bone Salad dressing $4/2 Use $0.75 IP from coupons.com to make it free. It's a big bottle, too and for FREE

Cookie Crisp cereal $2.22 - $0.75 IP that BeeReel mentioned above = FREE

Laughing cow $2.50- $0.55 insert Q = $0.85

Trident gum $4/2- $0.75 insert Q= Free

I did self-check out and this beeyatch stood behind me and stared for like 5 minutes while I was scanning away my coupons. Note this was my first transaction so I'm not sure what she was so shocked by. I was too caught up in scanning to realize what she was doing until I was done & overheard her discussing me with another cashier. It must have had something to do with the blinking light at the self-check. I usually don't bother with self-check anymore for THIS exact reason of being scrutinized & treated suspiciously but the lines were too long. I'm at this point where I'm not sure if complaining every time someone does something obnoxious like that or like the lady standing behind me is worth it anymore. I don't know if it makes a difference AND it makes me anxious when I go back to that same store. At the same time I don't think we should put up with their crap. Maybe the only solution is to just really b*tch them out one day and forget about staying under the radar  I have a friend who is like that, but I can't stand that kind of confrontation.

To minimize attention from the C-nazis,
1) hit the mute (learned that trick right here - I love SD!);
2) scan coupons in between grocery items;
3) and if they want to watch, you can slow things waaaay down, like you're some old lady with arthritis. Yes, that will p!ss off a crowded store, but if it's really busy, what is the attendant doing standing around watching?
4) If you're REALLY obnoxious, before checking out, you can also grab a thing of ice cream and change your mind "excuse me, can you put this back for me before it melts - I forgot, I didn't have a coupon for it" - haha - now they have something to do besides standing around and watching you.

I keep them at bay. :)

As for the blinking light, that's my headache too. I'm pretty good at prediciting what will be a problem and what won't, but sometimes there's that random Q that messes up for no obvious reason. If I think that I will have a lot of problems, I discourage them from clearing the light. If I think it's just a single error, then I encourage clearing the light so no one else runs to my rescue. You can also try shopping in the stores in the poorer communities. The customer service level is noticeably lower in those stores and it can often work to your advantage.

If you are unsure about a coupon, scan it at the end. I've never had anyone scroll back through the transaction log to see "OMG, look how many coupons you used!" Also, I just skip the coupon anyway and I don't try to have anyone force it through (unless I'm REALLY hot for it). At the end of your transaction, once you've hit the [finish & pay] button, nobody bothers you and it usually shuts off the light.

There are some items that give trouble themselves, regardless of coupons. Certain OTC meds (cough suppresants, etc.), some florist purchases, wrapping paper, and some custom cut meats often require intervention for one reason or another. These are the very first items I scan and get the attendant business out of the way before they see my giant envelope of coupons.

Sometimes when a coupon is force applied, it screws up subsequent coupons, so I never have them do this. "I'll just use it on my next order - I shop here al the time, so it's no big deal."

The blinking light will go off for "bagging area full", so I'll keep it sloppy enough where it looks like that could have been the error, just in case I feel I need to explain why the light went off. Always act casual and keep scanning your groceries when they come over to help. They may or may not clear the light (depending on their training & their mood), but they shouldn't have the urge to hang around.

The blinking light will go off if a coupon gets stuck in the box. Some coupon boxes are more prone to this than others. I've been in stores where they keep an 18" steel ruler handy to clear these things. I suggest you be prepared as well (folded up blow-in card from a magazine on the reack there, comb, etc. Also, sometimes blowing into the slot is enough to get the coupon all the way in. It's amusing watching the attendant do this repeatedly at troublesome registers.

The blinking light will go off and you will be held up if the "coupon box is full". Be careful how you fold your coupons before putting them in. If you have any of those ridiculously long catalinas, those tend to register this error. The solution is to fold them up so they're shorter, but make sure their folded tight enough not to get stuck and cause the previously mentioned jam problem.

The blinking light will go off and you will be held up if an item gets jammed on "the arch". Soda bottles on their side could just start rolling between the belts and odd-shaped items can get caught along the way. On very rare occasions, it will "jam" for no reason - I've found this happens more frequently when you are scanning 4 or more identical items in sequence.

On the [finish & pay] idea: I've got to pay attention to this. Can anyone confirm exactly when the light stops? I'm pretty sure it doesn't shut off until payment is accepted. BUT, if it shuts off when you hit [finish & pay], that would be a great way to clear the light, then hit the back button and continue shopping. Anyone know for sure?

On the [finish & pay] idea: I've got to pay attention to this. Can anyone confirm exactly when the light stops? I'm pretty sure it doesn't shut off until payment is accepted. BUT, if it shuts off when you hit [finish & pay], that would be a great way to clear the light, then hit the back button and continue shopping. Anyone know for sure?

If it's a problem that was caused while scanning, it will clear when "finish & pay" is hit (except for age-restricted items). A scanning of the employee's card will also shut the blinking light. If it's a problem that was caused during the payment screen (i.e: after hitting "finish & pay"), it will usually clear the light after the order is complete (unless the problem is an error that locks the register up like the cash machine, receipt printer, rear arch blocked, etc.)

The S&S meat and produce peelie coupons do need employee assistance - they won't go through otherwise.

Also...a few stores around here (but not the one I work at) just got the Scan It hand scanners in (on LI - East Islip, New Hyde Park, South Setauket, Miller Place and Riverhead), and coupons based off your purchase history can randomly pop up. Can they be combined with regular coupons?

Yes, they can. The extra discounts from the Scan It show up as a "personal thanks" savings or something similar (the same discount category as the reusable bag credits), so it won't interfere with manufacturers coupons.

FROM Graybay - 12-04-2008, 10:06 AM Post #1409

At the top, there is a little blow-horn looking icon, very discreet. As soon as you press it, it mutes. It will turn itself back on only if you press it again or when you get to payment. Much better than having it blare out "Savings $1.00" or "Savings $0.50" 10 times in a row Always gets the attendant suspicious and they act like they're coming to help me

does anyone know how the SCO will function when you give it a $1.10 coupon for the $1.00 progressor coupons?

will it self adjust to $1 or provide 10 cent overage ...this is at stop and shop (not giant)

With all likelyhood, it will probably do neither and reject it.

My advice is to scan the product and coupon BEFORE scanning your card. Then it should take off the full $1.10. Of course, make sure you have other things in your order that will absorb the overage once you scan your card.

I can't say for sure that this will work at S&S, but seems like it should. It does work this way at Giant.

I was just going to suggest the same thing. I have tried it that way before at S & S and it worked fine. I have to stop myself from scanning my card first now because I realized that I can get a sweeter deal if I waited until I scan all my coupons before scanning my card. The exceptions would be a coupon that doubles. I think we need to scan our card before we can double.

I did this type of thing with the $1.10 Steamers coupon. Unfortunately, I thought it would just adjust down (like Shaws) and had nothing but 2 of the Steamers in my order. The first coupon went through at $1.10 and the second was rejected. I needed the CSR to manually enter it for $.90. I believe it would have given the overage if I'd had anything else that was frozen food.

Good to know, but I definitely went midweek to Giant. The manager was nice and just took it off on my word that the email said that it was free.

Oddly enough, I get the S&S emails too, but don't ever recall giving them my email address. And the free bag from S&S worked no problem (and that was the day after I got the email I think). Very strange.

Not sure I will be making the effort to use the 5/50 anyway.

Yes, you are right. If the soup is only $1, you need to scan the card last. Otherwise, it will say coupon not accepted. On another note, I've noticed that sometimes my Progresso q also attaches itself to the Progresso tomatoes, which were on sale last week, and the Progresso cannellini beans. HTH someone.

Also, there were booklet coupons for the Steamers for $1.10/1. So if frozen packs are steamers than that would be $.15 per pack.

:omg: Yeah, that kind of stuff is happening all the time, now. It's a good thing your bank caught it early & seems to have taken care of things. I recently found a strange $9.99 charge on my cell phone bill and when we called to find out what was going on, they said a number of people had complained about that charge. I used to use Peapod all the time a few years ago. Very safe. Very convenient. And, very expensive (relatively speaking). Often the prices on the Peapod web site are more expensive than your local store prices.

As far as coupons, you can use them -- but you can only give them when your order is delivered and they deduct the coupons from your next order -- not on the order delivered. And, they don't double coupons.

After becoming throughly indoctrinated into the slickdeal mindset, I could never use them now. lol
