$9.99 is still high considering you can BUY the DISCS for $6 at GameStop.

Can they be played directly on a PSP? As a PS3/PSP owner, I love that I could buy the game and play it on either system. Maybe it should be 5.99, but compared to others on the list, I'd consider MGS a premium title.
I'm pretty certain all PSX games can be played on PSP

Since we're talking about the purchase of games, I assume you mean legally right? I know the interpretation of making a backup differs from place to place and person to person, but are there any official sources, or even something directly from Sony that says it's okay to make backups of PS1 games to play on your PSP.

course not because in order to boot a popstation file, you need to have hacked firmware.
You can't use an eboot file rip from PSX in any official sony firmware.

Nice logic. Anyway I'm pretty sure somewhere in the manual it actually says copying is not allowed for any reason.

read my post, if you cant' boot it with official firmware, how you gonna play it??
Also sony never released a PSX to PSP converter, so how you gonna make a popstation eboot legally?

Here's what it should say in the manual:
"Unauthorized copying, reproduction, rental, public performance or broadcast of this game game is a violation of applicable laws. All rights to make copies of any portion of the game is retained by the copyright holder."
Case closed. It's illegal. Not that I had any doubts, I just know someone was going to come in here saying backups are totally legal as long as you own a copy, blah blah blah

never mind the simplest fact that you can't play a PSX game on the PSP without converting it.
And Sony doesn't give out the converter, so anything you do is ILLEGAL

yup, which means you're gonna leave your PS3 on and have wifi for your PSP wherever you go?
The people who are arguing about backups are talking about making their own eboot
Also i just realized, did someone say FF7 is only 6 dollars from gamestop?
Please show me where because even the green label greatest hits goes for 30+ on ebay, i'd love to make some $$

just to clarify, just because someone wrote it in their EULA doesn't mean its illegal...that's that's for the courts to decide unless there's been obvious case precedence/it's actually written down somewhere specifically. or unless there's a law somewhere that says all backups are illegal, which i don't think is the case yet and that's why we have fair usage arguments.
the real question is, PSP obviously can handle PSX games...WHY IS SONY NOT CAPITALIZING ON THIS CASH COW?? For basically no up-front cost they could be raking in $.
