I just wanted to say OUTLOUD, that I have the ability to give out Negative Rep Points.
I will not abuse this priviledge BUT I want to make it known WHY I will give out a negative rep.
I do not like nor will I tolerate prejudice, greed or meanspiritedness. I also dislike useless posts and deliberate reposting, although I am a lot less likely to give a neg rep unless I see its become a habit with the poster.
If I happen to come upon a thread that I feel is off topic and the comments made were deliberate, not condusive to the post or the board and/or basically harrassing, I WILL NEG REP POINT YOU!
So, to be specific, Im not talking about NR'ing because I "didnt get in on a deal", "dont qualify" or "just dont like the person who posted".. because those are not valid reasons.
If I feel either situation has become serious enough, I will MOD ALERT you, too.
I have given out 3 to date and 2 members have come to me claiming they were just "joking". Insulting and threadcrapping are not considered reputable, IMO and if I dont find your comment appropriate, I will N.R.
Just like the ability to give a rep point. If your post is helpful or beneficial, you will get a rep from me, providing I can give it to you. If its useless and not beneficial, negative rep.
As I have told others, if you feel my decision was wrong, please dispute it with a MOD. I will also dispute a negative rep if I feel it was given out of spite or retaliation.
I highly expect my rep point total (547) to decrease since this new policy has been implimented.

I think you deserve a rep point for this post, Jen! Very well put, and I agree with you 100 percent. It's maddening to see people make vicious comments in the freebie section, or give something a "thumbs down" because they don't like the person who posted a deal, or what have you. I figure that those folks who have the ability to give N.R.'s, were given that ability because they are well-respected SD'ers. I trust your judgement! :)
I agree and follow thoes rules too.

Who are you to hand out punishments if it you think something is useless and something that might be offensive to you is not be to someone else.
You are kind of acting like a king that is handing down edicts and I don't believe this post was necessary.
Are you going to give me a neg rep point simply because I am disagreeing with you?

I think you are misrepresenting what she is saying (incidentally, you should really say queen rather than king).
Neg reps are something of a way to protect the "way things are". When posters seem to be trying to deliberately undermine the civility or spirit of the forums, neg reps are a more democratic way of dealing with that. They allow one to express disapproval in a definite, clear way without the threat of retribution that warning points carry. People with this ability are acting as agents of the forum at large.
They're like clearing your throat to get someone to pause and rethink what they're saying.
Am I biased? Maybe. I can give negative rep, but I can only remember doing so once. I don't give positive rep very often either, frankly.

i have to say that jen_wv has been here for a long time and those of us who knows her thru this site knows that she doesn't do it out of spite. there has to be a serious and warranted reason for her to do it and if someone did get NeRPs from her, hey, they probably did deserve it.

At least that's what I come here for. If you want to debate or try and legislate righteousness run for office or become a preacher. Just please do us all a favor and don't do it here.
