Supposedly this service was out since 2007/2008. I don't know how I so completely missed the boat on it as I am usually current on these things. My friend introduced it to me yesterday.

The site is called Grooveshark http://listen.grooveshark.com/ (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1480195&u2=http://listen.grooveshark.com/) and it allows you to select and listen to just about ANY song you can think of for free online. It is similar to Napster-Free but it has NO restrictions on the amount of times you can play a song or total time listening to a song per month. It is similar to Pandora as you can choose a few or even one song and rate them good or bad and the site will then analyze your choices and automatically add similar songs to your playlist (if you enable this feature.)

Please keep this in mind - the site has a p2p sharing/selling aspect to it (which you are NOT required to participate in.) The legality of this portion of the site has still not been determined (the site was recently sued by BMI over this issue) so upload and sell songs at your own risk. I prefer to play it safe and just use the site to listen to songs without uploading anything.

Credit to Oleg26 (http://forums.slickdeals.net/member.php?u=240243) and nethosters (http://forums.slickdeals.net/member.php?u=2043) who have already posted this link to Slickdeals but in different areas of the site. It didn't seem to get much traction so I thought I would bring it here as to inform more people about it.

If you want to send a link of a song to a friend and have it automatically play in Grooveshark goto http://tinysong.com/ (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1480195&u2=http://tinysong.com/) and enter in the name of the song. Copy the link they provide you and send it to a friend. Thats it. Thanks to crash6767 (http://forums.slickdeals.net/member.php?u=80031) for the link!

Very cool. I have been looking for a Pandora alternative since they started limiting their free service. This looks great. Thumbs and reps.

I think last.fm is better than grooveshark because you don't need to download anything

have you tried grooveshark? at what point did you download something? it's all web based as far as I have gone.

I use grooveshark if I ever need to hear a song that I don't have. very handy. also TinySong.com allows you to link people to a specific song.

:iagree:

Thank you op! I like being able to actually choose the songs I hear, unlike Pandora, last.fm, ect!

Awesome info on TinySong.com I will add that to the post!

I am glad so many of you are as impressed with the service as I am.

Man, if I knew Grooveshark would get this kinda response in freebies.. I've known about it for a while now. Excellent service -- if they made an iPhone app with this capability, they'd be set!!

Yeah, Grooveshark is hardly new. I like this site because you select what song to hear, unlike other sites where you select some genre. Anybody know of any other "on-demand song" sites like this with equal or better (128kbps) sound quality?

For those of you who said other, can you post what service you use and if you like it or not. It is always nice to have options.

GrooveShark's great if you're looking for specific music, but Pandora has it beat if you're looking to discover something new. Groove's shuffle (or whatever it's called) is pretty bad

I generally use Lala.com, which the site Pitchfork links to, but it only allows one listen unless you purchase a song for 10cents/song, I think you get 25 free when you create an account but no software to download. Will check out grooveshark, thanks OP

After using it for a few days I have to agree. Pandora seems to play more songs I end up liking than GS does.
