It's not an unfamiliar story, but one that may explain why the former TimeSplitters devs faltered with Haze. Free Radical co-founder Karl Hilton, now at new home Crytek UK, explains to Develop how "technical issues" affected the final product.

"We hit a few stumbling blocks on it that meant we spent more time trying get the game running properly and less time to design the game properly," Hilton says, lamenting that Haze "wasn't the game it should have been."

did the ps3 make your game have a shitty story, shitty "acting" and shitty controls too? It's so easy to blame the PS3 for the flop rather than admitting you made a pretty shitty game in all respects.

I can't respect any developer who thinks their product isn't market ready yet releases it to the public anyway. they should have delayed it if they were having all these stumbling blocks

did he say it was shitty because they were spending too much time overcoming technical obstacles??

I remember they had the game finished and were apparently satisfied with it for a few months before it was supposed to be released, so this sounds like complete BS.

btw, I still maintain that the reviews were overly harsh to this game compared to other bad games. It wasn't great, but the reviews for other games aren't nearly as strict as they were with this one.

Except for acting... yeah... that would be design. Perhaps the story was better, but because of their supposed "stumbling blocks" they had to gut it for what they could produce rather than what they wanted to produce, and designing the way the game controls interact w/the game is obviously... design.

Whether or not this is BS from them, if it *is* true, then the things you mentioned as being affected they quite clearly stated.

i chalk this one up in the same group as the crytek CEO QQing about piracy being the reason Crysis didn't sell well (still it moved 1mil units)

The only thing I'll say about Crytek is that at least they got their company name right.

Is the story really considered part of the game design? I suppose so, but then again that's a pretty general term to use that encompasses a lot of things, so they could blame the technical problems for all of their design problems but I don't feel that's genuine.. Like in terms of making the game. Say they knew the ins and outs of the PS3, the script they have for the game (i.e. before the development really started) could still be absolutely shit. So could the control scheme they have for the game. Perhaps you can chalk all of that up to "game design" if you want, but I don't really feel the technical problems they have really affected the story. Like did they cut the story because they couldn't figure out the system? Did they change the control scheme because they couldn't figure out a better one?

I wonder how much legs Crysis has with its sales. I for one am waiting for hardware to come out in the mainstream segment that'll run Crysis at 1080p 60FPS. Yes I know it'll be awhile but I can't help to think that I'm not the only one with this though.

As for Haze, wasn't the game delayed like multiple times?

What are your PC specs? Yeah I know for ~200 you can get a card that'll run it at 40-50 FPS but I figure Crysis is something that needs to be experienced in its full glory.

Is a 4850 CF that good? I'm running one 4850 512 right now. For less than $100 I could easily get another one

ic...I really don't want to ditch my videocard just yet as I've only had it for a year and it performs just fine (not even close to being obsolete),not to mention I dropped 20 bucks on a cooler for it. But I'm very tempted to upgrade.

Haze is actually a really good game since the update that allowed you to switch the controls so you aren't forced to use sixaxis.

Heh, good one.
I honestly tried to play this game and it just hurt to try to enjoy it. And I agree, you can't blame that crap on Sony. Even still, the game did have potential. They should have polished that turd a bit longer.

Hot Shots Golf on PS3, now that is hard core!

I still hear that voice from the game saying "Remember your promise to Merino!" over and over and over. Man that got annoying.
