In the past decade, there has been an increased interest in and demand for what many consider unconventional and non-traditional medicine. This trend has lead to more research on such medicines. Complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) has been used to help treat pain conditions like fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia syndrome is hard to live with and treat because it has both physical and psychological symptoms. Understanding how CAM therapies relate to psychological health is important. Exploring a person’s positive functioning through learning how an individual interprets challenges in life and grows from certain experiences, are important in understanding patient well-being.
The purpose of this study is to better understand complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use in relation to an individual’s perspective on living with fibromyalgia. Understanding the relationship between CAM use and psychological well-being can be helpful. It may shed light on the use of these therapies.
