Currently there is an item marked as alive while the deal has been dead for about 30 min, and this also happens quite a bit otherwise.

My suggestion is to put a button on the front page that logged in slickdealers can push that immediately alerts mods that a deal is dead, and not have to go through the mod alert button in the thread itself.

I understand that this can give some false negatives if a person doesn't follow a deal process correctly, but you can set it to alert you depending on the rate of people clicking on a deal to mark it dead. So maybe 1 person an hour clicking the dead deal button isn't enough to alert you guys, but 1000 people in 5 minutes might be enough to do so.

Also, you can use your best judgment if you know a deal is complicated to pull off as to how often you should check the dead deal alert button notifications allotted to a particular deal.

I know this has been mentioned before and I could have bumped another thread, but I think this whole process/idea might be good to implement as it is more of a solution than a question.. Also, since a person has to be logged in to mark a deal dead, they can't abuse the system by clicking a deal dead repeatedly. If you ever have any griefers you could follow the bad eggs easily and ban them.

I like the idea of a 'dead deal' button or something like it, that would alert a mod with one click so that they could look into it. Though I think it should have some more restrictions, including maybe only allowing a user to click on the dead button on that deal just once (like the voting) or maybe once within a 12 or 24 hour period (to stop those that would hit it every 5 minutes ;)).

As for the deal you mention that's been dead for 2 hours... did you mod alert it?

Yes I did, for both deals. I just got pulled away for something else at work when I was going to do so the first time. But the button would definitely make it easier to do so, and not everyone knows to use the mod alert to inform them that the deal is dead.

Is there any way to be notified whether or not a suggestion has been considered or looked at other than waiting for actual action on the issue?

And the rules you mention widgit are kind of what I was getting at, the time limit though is probably useful as some deals have ways of reviving themselves.

Yeah, a button would be good. :) The mods/admins just can't check every post every day to see if it's dead or not, so something like this might help to get more users to alert them when necessary.

As for being notified if or when your suggestion has been considered or looked into, about the only thing you could do is subscribe to this thread so that you get notifications of any new replies, in case a mod or admin does reply. Otherwise, no, as far as I know no one will automatically notify you as to whether or not your idea gets looked at or implemented, sorry.
