View Full Version : FREE Dataplan for Blackberry T-mobile (possibly other phones)
SDChargers

Here are the Steps to the free Dataplan for Blackberry Phones with Tmobile, and possibly other phones but that has not been tested yet.
Steps:
1. Call T-mobile, get any customer rep. on the line.
2. Nicely! If your a girl use your flirtatious tone, if your a guy, uhm good luck lol
3. Tell them you are having a problem accessing your MSN and Yahoo messengers and it gives you an error stating "this handheld device is not enabled for this feature" and tell them you are connected to home wifi.
4. Tell them I called blackberry support and they said I need to add "VoicePlan."
Tricky Part: Voice Plan is a FREE feature, but it's a grandfather feature so they get authorization to add it.
NOTE: SOME REPS ARE NOT CLEVER ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND YOU AND WILL SAY VOICE PLAN IS THE MINUTES PLAN. IT'S NOT, LET THEM KNOW YOU WANT VOICEPLAN TO ENABLE THE MSN AND YAHOO ON YOUR BLACKBERRY, THEY WILL DO RESEARCH AND THEN ADD IT, SOME ARE JUST LAZY.
5. Once this is done, wait five to ten minutes and the phone has COMPLETE ACCESS TO INTERNET, MSN, YAHOO, BBM and all the other features even maps!
* I have had this feature since JULY 2009 and works great anytime anywhere. My brother just added this feature to his phone last night so I thought why not post it on here*
If you need help after the feature has been added, such as how to access things, please feel free to ask on the thread and I'd be happy to answer.

Some customer representatives are retarded, they did that to my bro, the first person he spoke with. You have to let them know your msn and yahoo don't work and you need to have voiceplan in order for them to work. Some might take a while to get it.

I just called and the rep. I spoke with said if I get a Voice Plan, that means I didn't have the data plan to begin with and in order to get the features I would need to pay $24.99/mo. I kept telling her that the BB dept. told me that I needed a Voice Plan to get MSN/Yahoo Messenger to work too.

I too just wasted 30 minutes on the phone with a couple of different folks at Tmobile.
The end result was I was told they will not do this anymore. That plan was only for older Blackberries where they had no other workarounds and if you have this problem now the only remedy is to upgrade your software.
With that said my Blackberry is by no means new (2 years old) and I was told my only option was to upgrade the software for which they instructed how to do. :(

i called up tmo told them that i just got off the phone w bb support and explained that i needed a voice plan to be added because of problems with my IM services. he went to check the notes of the bb support conversation and when they weren't there (because i never called) i told him that i just got off the phone with them. he figured that they had not updated their notes yet and went along with me. then he told me that the plan i was requesting was discontinued on 6/30 and that it could not be added. i insisted that bb support said this was available and all i had to do was request it. we went back and forth for a bit (i complained that it was not good business practice for one dept to say one thing and another to deny it) but in the end he said he "would try to see if he could add it.." and after a few clicks on his keyboard he said he added it. before he ended the call he assured me that it was a free feature, etc...." now, if someone could show me how it works it would be great! much aloha!

This is true, when the Blackberry enabler is on your account you get FREE internet. I had this for several years. BUT out of nowhere one day it was removed without my permission. I called C.S. they told me since i wasn't using a blackberry they removed it.
WTF! I was sooo pissed off about this. I been trying to get it back on my account since then.

So.... I have an unlocked BB storm that I use. And have had it for about 2 months. When I called tmobile to add the data plan 2 months ago it would not work with my storm (according to rep) so they added the voice plan. I have complete free internet on my phone, no charges or anything. I tried it with my hubby's My Touch.... that was a no go. It is only available for BB.

wouldn't it be easier to call in and ask for the blackberry feature enabler? Most of the reps already know what it is. If they don't, just tell them you're trying to send a MMS, but it's not letting you.

I would try that, but too bad I've sent hundreds of MMS over the past month..
BlackBerry feature enabler allows people to send MMS as well as connect to the internet, MSN/AIM/Yahoo messenger/BBM, etc?
EDIT: Just checked my account online, and I already have the BB Feature Enabler.

okay, here's what I did... I had to do it on my BF's phone. He has no features so I told them that he was given an older BB and was told he needed that feature etc... so and this was my third call, she did it. Now when he gets home from work we can see if this works. We have a RIZR2 a Nokia N95, my phone and a new HTC touch Pro 2 that I'm using now. I got it for free after adding a new line and I'm gonna turn off my old line and sell both phones to buy the Nokia N900 and so if. it's truly free and works then I'll use that line and have free data for my N900. Now. I just have to upgrade to a cheaper phone and get rid of the expensive data for the Touch Pro line... CONFUSING but I think I can end the end fanagle all of it. Just in case... What is an older BB I can say he has?

Don't even bother.
I've tried calling TMobile about it sooo many times over the past week.
And I found out I already had the BB Feature Enabler (which IS the Voice Plan Add On)....
But they took it off my account TODAY because they said it was grandfathered and it shouldn't even be on the account. Ugh.
So frustrated.
So I basically had EDGE for one year, but my internet/BBM/etc didn't work.
Now I'm stuck on edge. I know it's no difference since I didn't have the data plan to begin with, but just seeing "edge" instead of "EDGE" bugs me.

I tried to hook it up as an external modem on my laptop. I've tried all the different servers, using windows 7, and even tried to new BB Manger 5.0.1 tethering to no avail. It goes through an authentication process but then gives an error "The PPP link control protocol was terminated"

What is the difference between "Blackberry Feature enabler" and the "voice add on"? I just got the BB feature enabler add on enable today, you just have to talk to the "customer loyalty" department. That department has access to ALL grandfather options and prices.
jkatakoon
11-09-2009, 01:47 PM
^ It's the same thing according to a BB rep I spoke with a while ago.
So did you ask to get transferred to the "Customer Loyalty" department?
Then asked if you could have the BB Feature Enabler to get added on?
Are you able to access the internet, BBM, etc? I had it on, but got it taken off because it wasn't allowed to be on. Even though I had it on, I wasn't able to access anything though..

Well, I am suppose to wait up to 48 hours before it is active. I asked to speak to someone who could active "grandfather options". I got transfered to the "customer loyalty" department. I told them my situation that MMS message could not be sent through with my blackberry 8900. I am a new customer of T-mobile (3 weeks) and was told, at the time of the contract signing, MMS were inclusive of the 1000 text bundle. I was essentially "lied" too.
My argument...
"Why would I want to pay for a text message service (MMS, SMS, Video) bundle when I can only use it for SMS (regular texting)? Furthermore, you guys (t-mobile) want me to pay extra (ie data package) to FULLY be able to use the service (1000 text message including SMS, MMS, Video and not just SMS) that I am already paying for?!?!?! I mean that does not make sense!"
I was firm with the representative, yet not overly berating. I then asked to speak to someone who has the authority to activate the "BB Feature Enabler". The representative with customer loyalty was very kind and understanding. After I pleaded my case again within a matter of seconds, she activated the BB feature enabler. She did not even attempt to circumvent the situation by promoting the data package. I decided that now was not a good time to ask about the "voice addon" because it would see like I was just out for freebies. I thanked her and was on my merry way.
As of right now the changes I saw. edge -> EDGE and uma -> UMA and I get to send pictures! I highly doubt the BB feature enabler allows you to get free data, but I called T-Mobile with the sole intention of getting MMS capabilities. I think I will leave the data plan to a day where I can justify the fully usage of it.
BlackBerry Feature Enabler
This no cost feature allows customers with certain Blackberry devices who are not signed up for BlackBerry service to enjoy phone features such as Picture Messaging, Instant Messaging and t-zones.
Theoretically you will beable to get free "internet/data" via the t-zones. I guess I will see within 48 hours.

I did notice my "edge" was "EDGE" and my "uma" was "UMA" when I had that BB Feature Enabler. But now since they took it off it's on lowercase. I wish I didn't push to get the "Voice Add On" even though it's the same thing. Although it doesn't make a difference to me since I could never access internet, BBM, etc, it just felt weird at first going from capital letters to lowercase. I'm used to it now though. But I sure wouldn't mind a FREE data plan.. Good luck and good job to you, and let me know if you can use everything.
