I have seen plenty of RROD for sale on craigslist, but I am beginning to see a lot of "used" 360's for really cheap. Like in the $100-$120 range. Of course they all say no RROD, and they say it works fine. I know that my old old 360 took a while to shutdown. Maybe 5-6 minutes after starting it up before it showed the RROD. But how do I know some don't take longer to show? Anyone have a fool proof way to know before buying?

I'm guessing no without opening it - but if you are buying used who cares. Check the x-clamp, that's where most, if not all, problems are (is usually overheated and starts to come undone).

You can fix them pretty easily with kits sold on amazon or you can get the "ingredients" solo. There are tons of vids to show you how to repair the x-clamp.

Looking over the advertising they mention that they are still under warranty as well. So I guess that would transfer over to me and be my backup in case of any problems. I wouldn't need anything else but the warranty sticker, correct?

As far as I know, you might want to grab their receipt too if they have it. I was told today that the warranty is only as good as a valid receipt.

except the 5 year RROD warranty. No receipt needed, 5 year is based on date of manufacturer.

Well, there's always that - but I prefer the 10 year warranty.

Ok I was wrong, I guess it was three years and only for launch consoles. It is based on proof of purchase. I was way wrong.

Yes, buy a new one. Youre on slickdeals, you should be able to find a deal on a jasper arcade

So I guess I should avoid used ones and just buy new then. Thanks.

You sound a bit green and timid about fixing one, so new would be your best bet.

Yes: when you buy a 360 and get the RROD, it is at that moment you will have proof you are a fool.

bring a ups to test it and rip the face plate off to see if the warranty sticker is still intact.

Look at the mfg date. If it's anything older then a date in the future it has had or will get RROD.

:lol

If the word "Valhalla" is written anywhere on the unit in sharpie, buy it immediately.
