German magazine Computer Bild Spiele is reporting that Ubisoft has denied them access to a review copy of “Assassin’s Creed 2″ because they refused to assure the publisher that their review-score is going to be at least a ’sehr gut’, which roughly translates to an english/american ‘A’.

A short blurb on the cover of the magazine reads:

ASSASSIN’S CREED 2
SCANDAL!
PUBLISHER WANTED US TO GUARANTEE A SCORE OF ‘SEHR GUT’

In the web-preview of their current issue, the german publication writes:

Our reviews are tough, but fair. We will not give up our independent scores for the sake of a timely review. This holds true for “Assassin’s Creed 2″. The publisher asked us to guarantee the score ’sehr gut’, otherwise we would not receive a review copy, thus we will publish our review in next month’s issue. We’d be more than glad to give the game a ’sehr gut’, but only if it deserves it.

From what we’ve seen and played so far, the game is absolutely bonkers — it’s too bad that Ubisoft decided to taint the game’s image with a stunt like this. This still doesn’t mean that the game won’t be perfectly fine, just be careful once the first reviews start hitting the net.

We will ask Ubisoft for comment on Monday, but I doubt we will get anything back.

And...here we go..

Definitely waiting on feedback/reviews for this one. The first one was so GD repetitive...

Agreed. The first one turned into something of a grind pretty quickly. Granted I walked away feeling there a potentially interesting game lurking under the surface. Hoping Ubi has addressed some of the shortcomings.

I was so disappointed with all the hype of the first game that did not deliver. Definitely keeping my expectation low for the 2nd game

I actually still really enjoyed the first one. I'm really looking forward to the 2nd one and everything I've heard so far sounds like they addressed some of the tediousness of #1

I'll be picking it up when the price plummets months after release, like all their other games.

Won't be picking up the second until I see credible reviews.

I already got burned on the first (I have yet to finish that game).

I'm fairly certain sehr gut means very good...

It's kind of sad publishers are continue using this practice. Even if it's a rogue PR they should have trained them better or drill in their head they can't do that. Did they not expect magazine to reveal the threat?

Other than nerd outcry what kind of consequences has it had on their bottom line?

I don't think I'll be picking this one up. Last week I rented Prince of Persia (PS3) and I'm still numb from all the repetitiveness.

this game could be great if there were any sort of multiplayer. even simple multiplayer campaign missions would be great.

but it would be really fun to have 4-8 players all in one city and you walk around trying to kill each other all the while not alerting the other players and/or guards/town people that you're an assassin.

I was planning on waiting to get this, but now that my $20 credit from MW2 came in, and with other additional discounts, I couldn't pass it up for $25

I enjoyed the first, so I hope it builds on that instead of merely rehashing it like MW2 seems to have done.

Meh, I like buying games. Often preorder bonuses can even make you a gain after resale.
