does it require time for posts by new users to be visible?

yes, new members posts are moderated to make sure they didn't sign up just to spam our boards. We have been using this system for a few months and it seems to be keeping the spamming to a minimum.

yes, the mods have to approve the posts.

But it sucks when a new member is trying to get in on a deal...

So how long does it take for a post to go through the "moderation". I dont feel Ive broken any rules yet sometimes my posts dont go through. I cant tell if you guys WAY overmod, or its just slow.

Depends on number of posts, rep points, etc. Considering that it is the Christmas Holiday and that SD Moderators do have families, it may take slightly longer than normal.

:(There will be more deals in the future, and there were deals that the new member missed before he heard about Slickdeals.

Without the temporary moderation of new users, there would be fewer new deals for you because contributors would be chased away by the spammers.

If a new member posted the deal first, it would be shown via merging the posts that the new member was the Original Poster (OP).

I probably wasn't very clear.

New members may be frustrated with the short-term moderation process, but they should realize that it really benefits them more than it hurts them, because the forum is less cluttered with junk.

i gotta admit that the forum is administered really well :woot:

most of us deal seekers don't really appreciate everything the moderators do...but now i know :worship:

I posted something this morning and there is still no sign of the deal...So i'll reiterate what jezzeaepi said above:

"So how long does it take for a post to go through the 'moderation'. "

A ball park is all I am looking for.

A ball park is all I am looking for.Ballpark: Not very long :D . The more you post, the sooner the threshhold will be crossed.

Are you talking about this post (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=16556&t=175463)? How long did it take before it was visible?

Thanks, I was trying to search for it by using the "News Archive", so I didn't see it yesterday.

I just tried to include "spamsiteterminated.com" in a post but it would not let me. I was not trying to spam or have anyone give me a referral bonus. I simply said that if you click through this website, you get $4 back. Was I violating the rules of slickdeals?

More than likely, that site has made the black list.

Sorry to be annoying but what is the black list...does that mean it is considered spam or a bad site?

Both, in a way. It means that Mr. SD, or the URLs owner, doesn't want SD to link to it, so it will replace the URL with slickdeals.net.

I am also a newbie and my first post took about 5 minutes to show up and after that they have instantly posted.

I like this forum and appreciate the moderators as there is a minimum of spam and bashers here. I am a little scared to post a deal tho. People here appear to be very critical of the deals and how they are posted.

JMO :)

JMO :)If you have a deal to post, go ahead and do it. First, of course, understand the format in which you should post it, from reading other posts. Don't take responses personally, and learn from the feedback.

'tis better to have posted and lost than to never have posted at all. :D

:iagree: Just post the deal, unfortunately, some people criticize a deal even if it's not for them. That's what the mod alert button is for, the mods will take care of the post of the criticizer. Some people will always find that a deal that hasn't been commented on as much is a good deal to them. For that, posting the deal is worth it. :)

Well, I took the plunge and posted a deal about 2 hours ago. It has been viewed 67 times and rated negative once and no replies. I thougt it was a good post, but alas, not. I will lurk a while longer before dipping my toes in the water again.

Don't worry about it. I've been here for over a year & still get bad ratings on threads from time to time. I shrug it off & find something else.

yeah, I browsed here over a year before I joined, then I found a deal I thought was great so I joined and posted ... I think there was one response, but you never know unless you post

I am trying to post a deal and every time I submit I get logged out. Is there a minimum number of posts one should make before being able to create a new thread? Thanks.
