Can a person still become bold?

no, i domt think so. yes reps are based upon the years you are here, 1yr=1rep, 2yr=2rep, etc

If a member has rep points turned off, there is no way for others to give him additional rep points.

1 rep point is worth 1 rep point, but when bold users and those who have crossed other threshholds give rep points, they automatically give 2 or more points.

If there aren't rep points, what's the point of becomming bold? It would just mean you've been a member for a significant amount of time.

I started being able to give 2 reps a wile back and I haven't been here quite a year yet. maybe post count is considered also.

I believe deleted posts (whether from individual post deletion or thread deletion) are removed from your post count. My memory is that rep points for such posts still endure.

I think it should the other way for getting rep points if a person is there for more than a year he can give 2 points, he should also get 2 points if he is repped.

VN might be having some kind of server problem. Or a glitch due to conflicting programs on their computer. I remember back when my animations wouldn't work on one computer and pics all showed up as links, and only on this site. It drove me crazy (OK, well other things played a part in that journey) but I finally figured out that my Zone Alarm was not happy with some other program and once I turned it off I had mu animations and pics back.

I hope that you two work this out. It's difficult on here to always know if someone is joking or their intentions. We can't see facial expressions nor hear voice inflections. I know it can be frustrating and can hurt when we think someone means to insult us. Please give each other another chance.

...so what gives? I've been helpful in a couple threads, and even found/posted a deal and still no love. ...do I have to have 50 posts first, and if so, why don't the other peoples? *sighs*

You will find that MOST of the time, people do not give rep.
I have helped out quite a bit on the "help me find a deal" board and I have probably gotten 3 reps from there. Most of the people who ask for help are new and they don't even know about rep and even if they rep you, there rep doesn't count anyway cuz a certain amt. of time and posts have to go by before they count.

sharpThere is no minimum number of posts required to RECEIVE rep points.

The requirement of 50 posts is before you can GIVE reps that count.

If someone came up with a really great slickdeal, he could have only 1 post to his credit, but he could have many dozens of (even over 100!) rep points. But if that same person gave a rep point to someone else, it wouldn't show up. He'd have to post 49 more times before his next rep point to someone else was counted.

Click on User CP near the top left of your browse window where you are viewing Slickdeals. Look for "Latest Reputation Received." That will show you the names of the last 5 people who attempted to rep you. The reps with gray boxes to the left don't count, the reps with green boxes to the left do count.

Does that explain it?

It should show up once someone gives you rep.

..so back to the thingy about rep points.
(Man, someone seriously needs to "hidden post" some of the dialogue here.)
When one hands out a rep point, and that one has been here a while and their rep points are up now up to 2 or 3 instead of the one n00bs are allow to hand out. It SHOULD be such that the repper can indicate whether they wish to give 1, 2 or 3 RPs. It is sometimes a good deal but not a hot deal. I normally award a rep for hot deals only, unless, occassionally, someone gives extra good service on behalf of this community.

Some deals, like Vsters "JULY JUGGERNAUT" last July deserve the full 2 or 3 a long time member can give, but sometimes, a deal on a normally $189.99 HD for $149.99 or something like that only deserves a single rep point, and only because I happen to be in the market for that item and it saved me some loot. I wouldn't normally rep a deal like that UNLESS I actually was looking for the item, it just isn't that rare or that good a SD.
Since this is my anniversary month, I have a credible number of posts and RPs myself, and haven't been tossed off the Podium yet, :lol: I suspect I'll soon be going to 2 RPs and would very much like to be able to control the number of RPs I award someone based on my value judgements.

Would this be possible?

Hey peeps I may be a newbie but say isn't it more worthwhile helping another than worrying about rep points? We had a system that used it as well and did away with it cuz peeps were upset over a lil green dot and a number?? Figure?:)

I didn't think a new thread was necessary so I figured I would bump this one. I had a question that the quoted post made me think about. With the idea of "rep point inflation" is there a plan to increase the threshold of when someone goes bold? I ask this because a few years down the line when some people's reps are worth like 5, 6 or more many more users would be bold (maybe too many). I was wondering if there was a plan to increase the "boldness bar" more each year or something. Anyway just my 2 cents because I was kinda curious about it.

As of right now, there isn't a plan to increase the rep points needed to become bold. Yet, it has been suggested by the Mod Team. Currently, there is nothing significant about becomming bold, other than the bolded screenname.
