Why is the comment for REPS required?
So you know why your getting it.

Your profile shows the thread you received the rep for. The comments normally don't add any extra info. ie. Thanks!, +, 1, great, ty, +, good .....
The comment field is fine but it should be optional.

There's still a chance someone might leave a good comment.
Looking at my rep message history, I see more of the "good" rep comments than the generic spam ones.

Just punch your keyboard if you have nothing to say in a rep.

Unfortunatly some people have used the Rep system to attack people. In those cases, it's benefitial to require a comment so we can stop the attacks. Yes, it may sound foolish, but it is a perk.

Wow. I know a few threads I'm on that would probably stage a revolt if you took away the rep comment line! :D
Lots of us use it for fast follow-up or extra information (way way faster than PM-ing), or even just to say "have a nice day," or "thanks," or "appreciate all the time you put into this deal," or something like that.
I love being able to use it to communicate, and guess what? there have been some pretty crappy days when a nice rep comment has cheered me up. Pathetic, right? But, true.
So, just throw a couple letters into the box and don't worry about it. It's nice for the rest of us to have that option to communicate.
Oh, and while I'm thinking of it, there have been two occasions in the past when someone left me a super-mean rep comment (ouch), and at least I was able to report them and get it addressed.
Thanks for listening.......

I don't want to take away the comment line. It is fine if you have something you need to say. My suggestion is to make it optional. Currently you can not leave it blank when you give a rep to someone.

How about you just say "no comment"
