SEARCH TIPS -- thanks goes to rayzac99 , redsolar, Slickdeals, and widgit
There are three basic ways to search on Slickdeals.net
AND - I am looking for either a measuring cup AND measuring cups Using quotes in your search will not give you the logical AND results. Instead that is actually an exact phrase search. For the logical AND results, just type the words you want without quotes. (example: "measuring cup", with quotes, brings up posts or threads containing that exact phrase only. But typing 'measuring cup', without quotes, will bring up any thread or post containg both 'measuring' and 'cup' in any combination.)
OR - I am looking for either a measuring cup OR measuring cups
Logical OR is set up using | ("pipe") character. Usually located on the same keyboard key as \ ("backwards slash")
For example, if you are looking for measuring cup or measuring cups, type in the search box "measuring cup" | "measuring cups" (with quotes)*
*Please Note: measuring cup | measuring cups (with no quotes) will not bring you any search results.
NOT - I am looking for a measuring cup, but NOT measuring cups
Logical NOT is achieved using the minus " - " sign
For example, if you are looking for keyword free but not shipping, type in the search box free -shipping
Other Tips:
Keyword must be between 3 and 64 characters
Keywords are case insensitive (LaPtop is considered the same as laptop)
Search for the model number of an item, (e.g. SKU or ASIN) instead of the name
If you have a coupon or promo code, search using just the code
Just search the store name
You can also search by title only
If you are not getting the results you want, try different keywords
Check for spelling errors

go for it. What's your question regarding the site?
Ok, by your answer I am assuming questions may and should be asked here, correct?
My other question is in regards to threads-- How long (time wise) before a thread started by an OP appears in their profile. By profile I mean when you click on the user's name and go to "View Public Profile" and then click "Find all threads started by user"
Aluvus
01-14-2006, 09:12 PM
From some quick informal research, it appears to be under a minute.
McSlick
01-14-2006, 09:14 PM
thank you. The reason for asking is that a thread I started didn't appear for a while (1hour+), but it did appear as a post within one minute.
lowpro

Aluvus is correct. From time to time during peak times Mr.SD might give less priority to some functions of the site to devote more resources to others.

I got another question but didn't want to start a new thread.
What are the post #'s for each level? I think it is
0-50 L1 Learner
100-200 L2 Beginner
200-300 L3 Novice
300-? L4 Apprentice
Are these #'s right? What are the rest?

OP, consider becoming an Information Stylist and/or Doofus!
The benefits are many! I'm proud that my hard work, training, dedication, and sacrifice are reflected in my current status:
Intermediate Doofus
Information Stylist Level 7
I'm not stopping here, though, I hope someday to achieve Senior Doofus status and IS level 100. Don't be discouraged from following your dreams!

Right now, I'm focused on the next level, which remains elusive.

Of course a mod or Mr. SD is better to answer this, but I believe they (Mods and Mr. SD) make the decision through their judgment. Whether they vote on it or go through a tribunal where the great deals are voted off onto the front page I do not know. I think they get to choose because otherwise they would get 100's of suggestions a day of what the new hot deal is.

It seems like a good idea for dialup and other slow internet speeds but it does kinda stink for high speed. Anyway, maybe you could have the option of choosing how many Smilies per page? Like we have now with posts per page. Have the default at the new, current setup and have the ability to have 200 smilies per page if you want them. My guess is that would be way too complicated but if it would be something easier than I imagine, please consider. thank you

Bold thread titles mean that there is a new post that you, the individual user, has not read yet. By a new post it could be a new thread or a new reply that you have not read.

How do you give a thumbs up or down or give some rep points? I find the FAQ dealing with those topics, but they don't say HOW to do it. When I click on a deal/freebie, I don't see a thumb icon or how to give points anywhere in the listing. Thanks!

you go to their post and click on the "blue" number under their user name. see it???????? can't give reps in the lounge.
also, your reps won't count until you've reached 50 posts or more. but, it's the thought that counts.

you go to some deal forum and under their names there should be a number and the word "Reputation". I believe this is in the FAQ's which are somewhere in the USER CP

If you mean, when is repping someone worth 2 points instead of one, it is at your one year anniversary with SD.

***
10-499 reps = 1 rep (If your reps are not gray)
500-999 reps = 2 reps
1000-1499 reps = 3 reps
1500+ reps = 4 reps
*Of course the number of posts and the amount of time you have been here can also increase your repping power (and yes, all these factors for reps are stackable  )
