The Lounge is too causal and people are not serious. I wish there was a section where you can talk about current events.

Why exactly? Just because you don't like the Lounge isn't exactly a reason for the admins to make a new forum.

No I like the Lounge, it's just that there's some people who mess it up by going off-topic.

the lounge is the correct forum to place 'news' in. there's even a category icon for it. if you want users to stay on topic, a simple "no off topic" in the thread title will help the thread from getting derailed.
if the news is somewhat of a controversial subject (politics, religion), the podium forum is your best bet for a serious discussion.

Oh right, I didn't know about that icon. "no off topic" - Gotcha! Thanks. Still sorta new at these forums.
