View Full Version : Suggestion: Need a separate forum for Dead Deals

When searching for new deals, I don't like to see the dead deals cluttering up the list.Moving these deals to a separate forum would make the Hot Deals section cleaner and easier to read.

Maybe call it "Cold Deals"?

Anyone else agree with me? :ok:

my suggestion is a dead deal forum, that way hot deals is not flooded by those who resurrected old old dead deals, it is really anoying.

what are your thoughts?

 Apologies for starting this duplicate thread.

:look:

Thanks MrSandman for spreading this poll to the dead deals and other threads.

Seems like the opinion on a "Dead Deals" forum is divided evenly. How about the voters justify their votes?
Maybe there should be a poll on vote justification too.

i will justify my vote. i voted No. I don't mind scanning the thread titles because it's quick to just bypass it. I don't go into every deal. Only the ones that interest me. And to just bypass it takes a lot less time than having a Mod do extra work by moving it to another forum. Eventually the deal will be forgotten.

Again, a simple **DEAD** in the title thread will suffice. Even if the OP don't come back to edit title, believe you me, another user will mod-alert it to have title changed.

but why should a dead thread be alllowed to keep resurfacing in the hot deals forum?

BTW I found a Dead Deals section on the *other* site. Not that it justifies this request.

and I found this xxxxxxxxx

Hope I didn't commit a SD felony here!

you're not suppose to link to a competitor deals site. it's in the rules somewhere but i couldn't find it. you might want to delete that.

Edit: Found it....rule #13 Please refrain from mentioning or linking competitive sites. If the site is censored, do not post that site.

How about a seperate website for those who are so anal about everything and never stop complaining. You can have your own freshdeals.org site. It's not that I approve of reposts or dead deal threads, but ignore them. Get laid.

If you have to start a poll with "don't know why the other thread was closed", don't make the poll. Or the new thread. This has been discussed, rehashed, drug up from the dead, killed again, re-zombified, nuked, and so much more. It's not going to happen, because there are just too many factors (especially human error). It's too easy to scan the deals already there to go to all this trouble and confusion. Stick around a little while longer and you'll understand.

I agree that we shouldn't start a separate thread. Where do we draw the line? How about we start a separate thread for deals that occurred 23 hours ago? Or 6 days ago? Nothing different should occur, IMO.

And how many times has a "dead" deal come back to life again? Then if someone post the revived deal in hot deals they will get a million "repost" complaints. It's a lose lose situation.

Hey this is so off-topic but I have seen your avatar before, it rang a bell when I saw it but could not think of it. I think I got it now, the monster that eats you in that ski game that came pre-installed on Win 98 or 95 I believe?

Well said RickySlicky!!! I totally agree with you! Also you can read the last new posts in the thread to see if it's "dead", or you can click on the link and see if it's still alive or not. Generally deals don't last forever, the company will remove the deal once they see many people order the goods at a low price than they wanted.

Creating a new area for this sounds like a great idea organizational-wise, but this would certainly mean more work for the administrators and moderators. Unless there was some fool proof way of moving 'legitimate' dead deals to this area via the database, it doesn't seem entirely practical.

Although it wouldn't be too terribly difficult to create a 'mod' to seek out the header -- from an OP's 1st post only -- to search out the word *DEAD* once a week through an automatic clean-up process prompted by the administrators/moderators. Once moved, the administrator/moderator could easily move something back to the live area should the deal not be dead or need to ressurect it. Someone with good SQL and PHP skills could probably create something like this rather quickly.

Just a thought since this is here.
