View Full Version : Slickdeals Beta Refresh Feedback Thread

Greetings all! We've rolled out some new changes and features to the Slickdeals website. It may be a little bit of a shocker at first, things have moved and stuff has been added, but we've made all these changes to streamline the Slickdeals website to make things more consistent and give users more flexibility when it comes to browsing our website.
Please keep in mind this is a beta rollout, and while we have tried our best to make sure there aren't any bugs, we probably missed some! If you find any bugs, let us know in this dedicated Slickdeals Beta Refresh Feedback Thread.
Check out the New Features Guide for a brief walkthrough video of the changes: http://blog.slickdeals.net/index.php/2010/04/01/slickdeals-beta-refresh
We know that with this change it will be unsettling for people. Surely if you've been using a website for three years and are used to things, when something moves or a color changes by 1% in difference you will notice it and freak out. Your brain is trained and accustomed to things. However, we promise that you'll get acclimated to the change and appreciate them. There are lots of new features and options for people, and the design changes will allow us to do some even more exiting things in the future.
Please give it a chance. For those of you who remember when we changed designs in 2006, everyone freaked out that things were different. People flipped out, said the exact same things "The old way was better! we're leaving!", but people got used to it, and started to appreciate the changes and added functionality. Like we did back then, we listened to your feedback and grew and made it better.

Please post constructive feedback!
Just telling us that you don't like it is not helpful. We want to improve, not downgrade.
Do not troll this thread by continuing to post that you dislike the changes. Once is enough and you will be heard.

To be honest, I liked it the other way. The current Beta version is very laggy on my computer in terms of scrolling and navigation. Granted, it does looke more "web 2.0" as some call it, but in my opinion that also means it's looks similar to other sites out there.
I agree with what someone else said. The way it was before, you could see a lot more info on one screen, even compared to the new "list" view.
Also, a bug I ran into... seems like random deals in the list view are permanently expanded fully, and no way to collapse them.

Page drawing when scrolling isn't as quick/responsive as before. I have seen this behavior on other sites that have a box that follows you as you scroll or a fixed background image.
This is happening in Firefox 3.6.2, Win XP. Looks fine in IE8.

The "old" simple was still cleaner looking, in my opinion. I think part of the reason I (and maybe others) enjoyed the site is that it was very quick to load and not taxing on the computer, but had a very clean finish and had an easy functional feel to it.
But yeah, new version is quite laggy in Firefox 3.6.2 for me as well, like I said. And yes, I'm aware what day it is ;)

I imagine you guys are going to stick with this style, that's fine. I suppose I would get used to it over time... However I would appreciate it if you give us the option to have a "Classic" FP.

I'm not going to lie, I found this to be pretty funny.
I went to go edit my recently made post, upsidedown and all, but when I clicked on the upsidedown edit button, my computer locked up and went to a BSOD.
I thought it was a joke at first, but it wasn't. I have a built-in ATI card from the recent micro gigabyte motherboard/AMD CPU combo, running XP SP3.
It gave an ati2dvag.dll BSOD right after clicking the edit button, and freezing for a second. I'm going to look into it as being some kind of driver issue. But just thought I'd mention it anyone else happens to have the problem with an ATI card running XP.
Update (using laptop w/ opera): So I've updated my ATI video drivers to the latest version, still having restarts. It's not CPU or GPU related because other AMD, Intel, ATI, and Nvidia users are experiencing this problem on XP. As other have put together, it's most likely something to do with Firefox.

The entire site seems slower and I'm running this on a gaming rig that has substantial amounts of processing power/RAM/etc & I'm also running the latest version of Firefox.
I can only imagine how shitty this site will run now at work via IE7 and a lesser computer.
I must say, I like the design but I don't like the performance thus far.

03-31-2010, 10:24 PM
The new frontpage deal styles are messed up because old deals have to be converted (which we're doing.... right now).
Simple view will be just like before (once all the deals are converted properly) with some minor tweaks such as price highlighting.
we're working on the performance issues as quickly as possible - just hold on, i think the servers are having a heart attack with all the changes but they should be running faster soon

Well one thing driving me nuts for now is the size of font in subscriptions/control panel area. That's my portal to SD, and the thread titles are larger than normal, larger than the normal forum view.
Also, not sure if it's a joke or not, but when trying to delete a private message from the new bar at top of messages it performs a move action instead. I then tried the delete function from the bar at the bottom of page, and it deleted fine.

It's a common problem with the AMD processors and the updated SP3 for XP.

Wow.
You really ought to focus group things like this with some of your users before you make wholesale changes to the site. This just feels like change for the sake of change. Not impressed...
Nobody had any complaints with the old design. Nobody asked for these changes. But people do have major issues with some of the site policies and abusers of this site. People have been asking for regulation of the abusers for years. But these changes -- ones that would benefit the users of the site & are requested by the users of the site -- are ignored to protect the guilty.
There are some changes that would made SD a better deal site but none of the changes you've made make it better IMO.
can you guys make an option to view the website in the old 'classic' view as well as the new one?

Click on the My Account tab on the toolbar, it has PMs in it...There's also a PM box at the very top where the search bar is...
Speaking of, why do we need the toolbar at the very top and the other toolbar with my account, deals, forums, etc...I seriously dislike this feature, can we just integrate them into one, on the normal toolbar not at the very top of the page? And I don't really care what the font size is, if you'll just make them somewhat the same :)

I just found the "display preferences" tab at the very top when you click on your name. I decreased the font size so the forums, etc don't look so ridiculously out of proportion with the toolbar. I'm officially happy. :)

It is a little redundant, because people dont read very often.
The tab at the top is there for you to sign in and out of the site and access those features, and see your PM count easily (in the future, more information will be displayed there such as number of outstanding notifications or new deal alert matches).

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with these others. I don't like it. I much prefer the old look of the forums, espcially the Classic skin.
I've never liked the Hybrid skin. It's too harsh on my eyes, with that much darker blue between the forum posts jarring to my eyes, and with the tighter/smaller fonts, which are hard for me to see/read easily.
Yes, I know I can 'increase' the text size but when I do that, the forum text is only increased a tiny bit and is still hard to read, but the rest of the text/font sizes in the thread titles and most elsewhere become HUGE. (see screenshot)
Please, please put it back the way it was.
ETA: I just tried increasing the font size again and noticed that the forum posts text really does not seem to increase very much at all actually. It seems that for whatever reason the text everywhere else besides the forum posts, themselves, does increase quite a bit. But not much at all in the posts themselves. Is this a bug? (I hope so because unfortunately I really can't stand trying to read text size like this, it's too much of a strain on my eyes and literally gives me headaches.)

Wow, your tag doesn't mess around when it announces you as the "Harbinger of Change."
It's new! And different! So, therefore, it's bad....
[/me curls up in a little ball in the corner and rocks back-and-forth]
I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm threatened by change....
I like the little blue box under the OP of each thread that announces them as the OP, though; sometimes in the longer threads, I lose track. The permadeal page ... only leaves me wondering what the smell is a Waffle House, and why have I not been blessed with any in my corner of the universe. Because I think that if I had been, I'd take up residence in one of the booths. (Waffles =.)
And the April Fool's joke. :) I've never been able to understand myself so clearly before I became upside-down and backwards....
ETA: Upside-dooowwwn. I am upside-dooowwwn. Whee! ... Oops. Maybe I should move. I think I'm starting to feel all the blood go to my head.
ETA 2: Just remembered something else I noticed before. I don't know if this was a feature before, or not, since I never noticed it before, but the "hide expired" option on the FP is a really nice touch. Most of the FP deals, I don't get to see until they're already dead.

Thank you, much better :)
(though I still realllllllly dislike Hybrid and always have. The darker tones of the blues and yellows is just too harsh and, frankly, it's not as 'warmly inviting' in appearance as Classic. So if Classic disappearing isn't just an April Fools joke, then I still ask that you please bring Classic back.)

My 2 cents:
The new version (even in "Simple" mode) is harder to read. There are too many colors (black text, green shipping, blue price) and that is distracting. Also, the background color makes it harder to read. I think it was more bluer before and is more whiter now...

I miss having it show the last time I visited the site - I use that to know how many pages forward to look for updated comments - please get that option back! Thanks for making the drop-downs actually work without having to move left-to-right a few times to get it to drop down (In IE8 Win XP I had to go to coupons then over to Forums to get the drop-down in the OLD version).

HATE.
Slickdeals is a about efficiency and not eye-candy.
And "Simple" helps get some of that back. But "Simple" still isn't back to "Classic".
Some of the entries in Simple are still wordy and the multiple font formatting makes it noisy.
If you want some improvements, it needs to be in alerts & filters.
In fact, the option to filter the front page would be my first request long before any formatting changes by far.

you just dont like the highlighting for stuff like prices and free shipping? The idea here is that it helps you identify the price quickly and helps segment products whenever there is a list of like 4 products and prices.
If you think they are too bright, let us know and we can tweak the colors of the text in simple mode and see how people like it.

Check out the New Features Guide for a brief walkthrough video of the changes: http://blog.slickdeals.net/index.php/2010/04/01/slickdeals-beta-refresh
really really hate the new look
UI change at FW was one of the main reasons that I switched to SD. Now I probably have to switch back. At least FW fill the entire wide screen, not leaving any blanks on either side wasted

I sure hope this is an April Fools joke, because I know people are holding back on their comments because of that assumption.
Price doesn't mean anything until I know what the product is anyway. So now I need to negotiate a rainbow of distracting text to key into what I want.
The other thing is that I could surf this real quickly at work and not get too much attention of people looking over my shoulder seeing what I'm not suppose to be doing. That's over I guess.
Reminds me of a guy at work about 15 years ago when PCs first started really getting common in my workplace. He would issue a memo and use about 6-7 different fonts and formatting features in one page.
Real annoying. When it comes to bells & whistles and formatting I like this piece of advice. "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."

yeah, I pretty much left FW when they changed their UI too. This is an unnecessary change. Aesthetics were fine. Hell, most of the site was perfect before outside of the thread ignore limit and a few other really random things that I can't remember. Now, the site is uglier and more cluttered.
Please roll it back. We'll even pretend this beta was a terrible April Fool's prank.

i really wish that when i loaded up the front page, i could see a good portion of the deals. unfortunately i have to scroll down to see any, i know this is a small thing but it bothers me that i have to look at so much wasted space up top, i think that the title bar with deal, forums, coupons, tools, blogs etc. should be moved all the way to the top. everything above it is completely useless (other than search which should just be dropped below the aforementioned title bar)
figure8
04-01-2010, 03:06 AM
while on the subject of the title bar, it also seems slower to respond than the one before. the old menus used to respond almost instantaneously, which is definitely not the case right now.

04-01-2010, 03:07 AM
Well nothing is set in stone, but various changes are made to make way for new features (such as filtering, coupons, hot topics, etc).
Regarding simple mode, do you think it'd be better if we cut out the store text and made the price less noticeable?
Perhaps like this screenshot:
http://slickdeals.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=348810&stc=1&d=1270116384
....
Regarding the comment about moving stuff up - we actually measured, and when you collapse all of the stuff such as the "Check out the new changes" banner, the deals actually start at the same location as they used to.
And let me say that I appreciate the feedback. We'll try our best to consider everyone's requests but we cant please everyone. Things like colors and tweaks we can do. In the near future though, I hope to be able to have more advanced display preferences so that people can customize the views how they want them. That will take time, but these new changes lay the groundwork for that kind of customization.
and guys, dont mistake us for the competition, because we really do listen to the feedback you guys give us :) some of the changes will just need some time for people to get used to, and some tweaks can definitely happen based on demand.

how about getting rid of all that wasted space to the right of the big slickdeals logo? we all know what site we are on, i think a logo could be placed in a better spot that pushed the deals and title bar up farther
i think a big way to win over a lot of these people complaining is to just place a button that makes everything go back to normal :D

while on the subject of the title bar, it also seems slower to respond than the one before. the old menus used to respond almost instantaneously, which is definitely not the case right now.
They are actually programmed to be the exact same amount of time as the old menus. You probably didnt notice it, but in the old design there was a delay too because people were complaining that menus accidentally activated whenever the mouse went over the area.

well maybe its just the format playing tricks on my eyes then, but i still stand beside the idea of getting rid of that huge slickdeals logo and banner. i imagine a large percentage of the users on this site block ads (especially as obvious as that one) anyhow, mine as well just put the ad down lower or use some other type of advertisement that doesnt take up so much space. that top couple inches of the front page is so junky

First of all, we actually shrunk our logo, but that banner is there to help pay for our servers, equipment and overhead.
If you can imagine, running a small website costs money, but running a HUGE website like slickdeals with millions of visitors costs a lot of money. Those ads help us keep slickdeals free and awesome! We never put intrusive ads like other sites that have popups or popunders or interstitial or even worse, let companies PAY for placement on their frontpage like lots of other deal sites.

not saying get rid of the ad... just place it in a better spot. it's the only ad that i block on this site because it is so unsightly, well now i have the sd logo blocked too so it works out (title bar is pushed up to the top now). i make sure to click a few of the other ads once in awhile to make up for that one ad that i just had to block.

I am running XP Pro with SP3 and last night I didn't get the BSOD but I did see only posts by myself upside down through FireFox. This morning I logged out, went back to SD through Firefox and my posts were normal, but when I logged into SD again they were once again upside down. Posts made by everyone other than me were normal.
So I tried IE 7, both logged in and out, and both times every post including mine were normal - no problem.
Whatever's going on looks like it's related to Mozilla, but why would it appear only when you're logged on??

If it is not broken - don't fix it.
Remember when Yahoo changed it's look and everyone hated it so they changed it again... and again... and again?
Remember how so many users left to go to Google because it was simple and straight forward?
Now go look at Yahoo these days - back to where it was pretty much.
The new look does not make anything easier that I can see, but it sure does look like some nice portal with fancy features. Oh wait - SD'ers are just here to talk good deals and find them - not be impressed by some web guru's idea of a slicker site. Put it back to where it was and save us all the hassle...

I see there are complaints with the new look, but I suppose there must have been a number of complaints with the "classic" look as well (although I had none). But I'll try not to complain too much.
However, I did very much prefer the navy blue font color of the deals (as opposed to what's in black now). Yes, its just an asthetic thing, but the page is actually much harder on the eyes and looks far less "welcoming" with such a strong, bold, and contrasting font color.
Thanks for your consideration...

Actually, we provided two new views: list and grid. These views offer a different way of browsing the front page. Some people prefer to look at pictures and some people prefer to see things in blocks. Giving them this option is a feature for those people who are more visual than textual. People who prefer the old style can just switch and stay with the "Simple" mode.
There are other useful features, such as the ability to hide expired deals, view more than 5 hot topics with our new hot topics page, vote from the frontpage, and soon we'll offer filtering by categories.
For example, in the future you'll be able to say "I dont want to see any kids products, because i have no kids", and those results wont be shown to you.
These changes lay out the foundation for that functionality.

My 2 cents:
The new version (even in "Simple" mode) is harder to read. There are too many colors (black text, green shipping, blue price) and that is distracting. Also, the background color makes it harder to read. I think it was more bluer before and is more whiter now...
This.
And, way too much white space. Too much scrolling for content. The simple mode doesn't seem to 'stick' for me, as it appears to be a site cookie setting and not a user preference. It looks like the front page was sponsored by Crayola.
I think what most people are saying is: Small, concise list of deals that can easily be scanned 4,500 times a day. I'd vote for increasing the number of Hot Topics and Up and Coming topics to more than 5 by default.
And what is up with that vacuous whitespace around the SD logo in the upper left.
I think somewhere along the way, someone forgot that the homepage is just a quick snapshot into the good stuff from Hot Deals forum. Now it's "Where's Waldo". And while I'm complaining, turn down the saturation on the blue in the drop down menus.
And yes, I do feel better after getting that off my chest.

I don't know why this seems to be affecting my browser so much, but scrolling is very glitchy. I am using an iBook G4 using FireFox 3.6. Very very choppy.
I dislike the homepage now, but not nearly as much as the forums. I don't even bother going to pages 2 and 3 because it takes me so long to get through page 1. The pages are longer now, which requires me to scroll much more. A pain in the butt. It is also difficult now to read the title and see the thumbs at the same time.
There needs to be a way to switch back to the old view.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS! It seems to be trying to market the deals more as if it were just another retailer site. I like reading the compressed blurbs and knowing instantly if it's something I am in the market for, not scrolling through pics and other content.
I remember how SLICK some of the deals were back in the day when I first joined. Those have gone since the community has grown to be so large. Let's not invite people who can't read and need pictures to lure them in...

The new design is disturbing and stupid....
1. While keep saying "simple is as good as the old one", each time I close and reopen the browser, it's back to "List" view. Also, please move this selection to the bottom as there are Expand and Expand all already.
2. Should also provide a "Simple" view for "hot deals and topics" and make it default.
3. Move the top most line to the tottom or give the option to hide it.
4. Direct access to forum control panel
What's with the new layout, here are problems i see already
•Upside down text, my guess it's a april fools joke--although childish, it's annoying
• "Search" at top doesn't work, cant type in that field
•Website has shrunk to 70% of screen, real problem when using a netbook, i checked it on multiple pc's and the pic below is what i get.
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/8885/32307248.jpg
So i how do i change the view back to classic view, your new layout is like what microsoft did to office 2007, with the ribbons, microsoft thought it was new and cool, the rest of us prefer menu bars in a real world environment, In other words, if you have something that works don't mess with it..History has taught this lesson over and over.. ie: New Coke, Pepsi A.M., Web TV, Lifesavers Pop Soda, Arch Deluxe, etc.

The old version was much easier to quickly scan for what I was looking for. It was easy on the eyes and I didn't have to scroll down to see all the deals.
Even in simple mode, the new layout is literally irritating to look at as the bold headlines mixed the the descriptions & pricing makes it confusing to read through the deals.
Please revert back to the original format, or at least give the option or a link to the original format.

Overall, I think it's pretty descent... I just don't like the fact that Hot Topics doesn't have the simple format... the pictures (even when there are no actual pictures) take up a lot of extra room. Also, if it would default to the last selected viewing option when reentering the page that'd be a + :). The Hot Topics picture should probably also appear on the left side to keep it consistent with how it's displayed on the frontpage deals.
You use any JS library in particular? Or did you use something other than JS?
I'm a coder and this is exactly why I hate doing UI work... especially on existing apps... people will always complain about the changes... that's why I like
taking the approach of "Tough sh*t... use it for a few weeks then get back to me with what you don't like..."
Also, in the future to please the masses may want to have a link to a beta site, so people can check it out at their leisure in the day/weeks/months leading up to a redesign and submit their feedback... at least that way you wouldn't be getting bamboozled... and perhaps you'd be able to get some sleep lol...

I can learn to live with a lot of these changes... the one thing that HAS to change is the fact that I have to scroll left and right with the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen to read entire entries...
The only way I can view the whole page without scrolling is to change the browser Zoom % to a lower number.... makes the words TINY but at least I can read a whole entry without scrolling.
PLEASE slickdeals, change the layout so it all fits on one viewing page (left to right at least--- everyone expects to scroll up and down, but we should NOT have to scroll left and right!!!!!)

You (and the people who decided to put an absolute width on the new design) obviously have no web design experience. The website should be set to a relative width so side scrolling never occurs.
While on the topic of width....why force it to be limited either way? Increasingly more people have widescreen monitors, so just let the site stretch all the way across like it used to be. Less scrolling and easier reading.
No need to fix whats not broken. Actually in this case, no need to break whats not broken.
New design = fail.
Also, I'm getting broken images on at least have of all the little graphics/icons in the forums.
I really hope this design is Slickdeals' [lame] attempt at an April Fools joke. I feel sorry if SD actually paid someone to develop this...

Design is nice but too many frills and not enough content. On the home page I like the idea of having a list view with pictures, BUT having a picture for every single deal is ridiculous. Add me to the list that is not happy with the new format/layout. I tried to zoom the page, but then it cuts off the first letter or two of the title of the thread. I appreciate the efforts, but please can we go back to the old format?

That is not the hot deals forum, that is here: http://slickdeals.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9
That is a completely new page that we introduced that shows hot topics (which are hot/popular threads from the hot deals forum).
There is nothing to "go back to" because it's brand new.
I always thought that topics on the frontpage were the hot/popular threads from the hot deals forum?!
What is the difference between the frontpage threads and hot items threads?
You should make the "hot topics" link on the frontpage revert back to the "hot deals" forum. I guarantee that the majority of viewers of this site usually scan the frontpage quickly and spend the most of the time in the hot deals forum. The hot deals forum is the most usefull aspect of your site and therefore should be easier/more apparent to navigate to from the frontpage.
I for one will keep my frontpage on "simple mode" because I can not tolerate the new eye candy version.
I do appreciate the site though! Thanks!

You should make the "hot topics" link on the frontpage revert back to the "hot deals" forum.
We'll be refining this distinction. But the tab next to the front page isHot Topics, some of the best stuff from the Hot Deals section. This can be stuff that never made it to the front page. The Hot Deals stuff is still there. This is actually a new feature that wasn't there before.
I guarantee that the majority of viewers of this site usually scan the frontpage quickly
We know this, thats why the changes were made to allow people to scan faster.

These site design changes remind me why I don't visit FW as much.
If you look at
http://www.google.com/trends?q=fatwallet.com,+slickdeals.net&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
you can see SDs spike in traffic when FW made their changes (circa 2006).
(note: I know there are other factors to consider (content, community, etc) in the spike in traffic. But I do recall that there was a community uproar and the FW mgmt just wasn't listening.)
SDs new web 2.0 look feels likes FW 'modern' look and personally, I don't care for it.

I don't like the new frontpage. It makes it harder to find things quickly. I prefer to click on an item to drill down to more detail. I use SD because it is faster to find deals and has a more active community. This move takes what I see as SD's strengths and tosses that for conformity. The layout feels like another FW or urlhasbeenblocked clone. I saw the simple layout option, but even that sacrifices readability and having it load all the pics by default just slows down the site on my end. The less is more minimalist design works well for Craigslist why add unneccesary fluff. The current layout makes me scroll then as I scan the listings with my eyses I'm thinking I can't be bothered, whatever I'm out.

We're making tweaks to this still.
Noted about the simple hot topics. We use jQuery. And noted for allowing selected beta releases for individuals.
1. Might be related to you clearing the cookies.
2. Noted
3. ???
4. You can click your username to go to the UserCP or go to MyAccount drop down.
We're trying to keep deals appeal to everyone instead of just a small group of people.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
New layout is really atrocious, I'm sorry. We appreciate all that you guys do by hosting the site, but come on... were you guys drunk or tripping on acid when you were making this?
What don't you like about it?
I like it! Was a little shocked at first, but upon navigating through the site, i really do like it. I think I'll be using the "simple" style mainly, but i'll play around with the others from time to time. Also, it doesn't tax my computer at all when viewing the site.
Good to hear!
The new slickdeals look is too bloated. Compare it to craigslist.......they both work because they are simple and easy to navigate. Now I feel SD is has too much eye candy on the front page to know what's going on.
Have you tried simple mode?
This.
And, way too much white space. Too much scrolling for content. The simple mode doesn't seem to 'stick' for me, as it appears to be a site cookie setting and not a user preference. It looks like the front page was sponsored by Crayola.
The simple mode seems to be sticking for me.
I think what most people are saying is: Small, concise list of deals that can easily be scanned 4,500 times a day. I'd vote for increasing the number of Hot Topics and Up and Coming topics to more than 5 by default.
That was the reason for the hot topics tab, you can browse even more!
And what is up with that vacuous whitespace around the SD logo in the upper left.[/quote]
Tweaking this.
I think somewhere along the way, someone forgot that the homepage is just a quick snapshot into the good stuff from Hot Deals forum. Now it's "Where's Waldo". And while I'm complaining, turn down the saturation on the blue in the drop down menus.
Noted.
And yes, I do feel better after getting that off my chest.

Per your request, I tried to adjust to the changes for the last few hours. There is just TOO MUCH going on.
* Front Page is literally a rainbow of colors (even in simple mode)
* Bright pastel colors make it difficult to see even with the recent darker font text changes
* Too much information - product name and price is all one needs to know.
* With so much information, you've effectively slowed down the "user-friendly" quick scan.
* For an analogy, just because you put pictures/increase text in a book, doesn't make me read it faster.
* Slows down computer
* Forum looks ok, but it has made it things difficult to see and cluttered.
I think we all come here for the deals...and not the Eye Candy (if that's what you want to call these changes").
Crossing fingers for this April Fools Joke to be over.
See you all tommorow.

How do I get it to auto-fit to the width of the browser window? Like a text wrap...
It did it with the old version...
Also, I do not like the large header for each post in the forums. It just seems way to high and/or bold or something. Is there an option to decrease it?
Other things just look kind of bold and blockish....Needs softer edges/corners/lines to be easier on the eyes....
Also, it does not send cash directly to my pocket....WTF?

Sitewide images are taking forever (30+ seconds) to load or just dont load at all... This is on a brand new core i7 920 PC on RR turbo with a latency of about 55-75ms
Other image intensive sites like facebook are loading fast and complete so its not *me*
This is in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera browsers...
It is a shame that SD will probably drive away a large crowd of loyal followers and maybe even cause the community to miss out on potential deals all because someone decided the site required a face-lift... even though there appears to be no postings asking for giant fonts, bunches of wide open wasted space, bloated frontpage design that is going to wear out my scroll wheel on my new mouse!
Just my thoughts...

I'll be using the simple mode. One thing I don't like is the site doesn't scale as well as the old design. I use it in a small window at work and scan the site several times a day the design makes sense in full page mode but when I shorten the browser window 1/2 height and 1/2 length on a 1280x1040 desktop environment it doesn't scale as well as the old one. The hot topics section is the biggest problem there is too much space in between each item. Might be caused by the comment bubbles, I havn't looked at the code and I'm sure you would have a better idea. Anyways that is my more constructive feedback after my angst post. That dilbert cartoon still has me laughing and has diffused most of my annoyance. Attached is what I see to better illustrate I use the lower scroll to move left and right the problem is the up and down on the hot topic too much space. My .02.http://yfrog.com/iyfeedbackqj

The whole forum looks cluttered. I like the simple list from before that way I could quickly scan deals and the pictures have got to go. They take way to much space and make the page load way to slow.

I hope this is an April fools joke.
I HATE the new format.
I stopped going to FW after they changed their site. Can't stand the FW site. Same with this new design. Old design was perfect.
I stopped going there for the same reason....

We're working on this.
Also, we're about to remove the max-width so those on widescreens will get most of the real-estate back.
Also, I ask everyone to give it 1 week. I'm sure you'll like the changes. But continue to keep the feedback coming as we tweak and refine things that will try to make everyone happy

Get used to it people...
There is always an uproar every time Facebook changes something. Then people get used to it and get all pissed off when it gets changed again and proclaim that the old version (actually the version they previously complained about) was so much better.
People just don't like change... especially my mom...

Its OK, but get rid of the box around everyone's post content. It looks weird and makes me think every post is a quote of someone else's.

Don't like it at all and it is not because it is different. Simply, now there is less information available for viewing without scrolling and too much extraneous info on each deal. Also contributing is too much white space between entries. One other dislike: when I set my view as simple-hide expired, the next time I return the view has not been saved and I must reset preferences each visit.

Looks like junk. Takes up more space, less consolidation, and laggier. Why change a good thing? Go back to the old page.

Well, it makes the site even "laggier" now to visit whilst at work...:(
Everything takes longer...The "look" I dunno..Does it really matter? This version will say regardless?
I like the old version. Will have to get used to this one...

It's a bug and we'll fix it!
Weird! Do you have cookies enabled?
Yes I do.
And now I have this awesome thing going on with the bar under "Post New Topic" on any of the forum general pages.

This is the problem with instant communication.
People see something different and all of a sudden it's like the world is coming to an end.
Anyways, here is my constructive criticism:
1. It seems like one of the major issues with the new front page is speed. You guys mentioned that you are looking into it, but I wanted to post my vote on saying that the front page is significantly slower to scan and navigate through the deals.
2. Personally, I'll be using the "Simple" FP view. I can see myself playing around with the "List" view, but I don't see the benefit of a grid. Nevertheless, if you can put it there as an option, why not? :-)
3. The colors look fine. I don't know what people are complaining about. The only issue I had was getting used to the post background being tan and the quote background being white. I'm not sure if this was like that before.
4. I can't recall exactly if the FP deals had this feature, but I really like the fact that I can pause my mouse on top of a topic and see the few first lines of the post. I see the forums still have this feature, but if you could somehow implement this into the FP deals's "Simple" view, that would be awesome.
5. Overall, I think the changes are good. I don't blame the people who run the site for trying to increase the demographics by making it look pretty. One small reminder though: People come here for the content, but I'm sure you guys won't lose sight of that.
To anyone who is having a cow, step back, go outside, take a break and come back. When you think about it, after a few bug fixes, the site will still be the same SD we all love.
Remember, this is free. You're not paying anything.
Thank you for the hard work!

Broadly speaking, I liked the new design but needs minor tweaks here and there, like:
the Top of the page content, "Questions Never missout...etc.." is taking too much of space without any value added, it better be squeezed between the SLICKDEALS logo and the AD below.
And for the Frontpage Slickdeals section:
why don't you make it as a tabbed content with a tab for each day for the last one week, it improves the page loads, even with pictures, and avoids lot of scrolling up and down, which I hate very much with the web pages.
And the welcome message "welcome to the new slickdeals...." is take too much of real estate on the page, it is nice but needs some squeezing for good of the real estate.
And as pointed out by other SDers, please use the real estate to the full length.
Hope that helps!!!

Don't like how threads/posts don't take up the entire screen.
Don't like the subtle color difference between the user's text area and the rest of the post. Looks too much like something is being quoted when there
in fact is no quote.
Using Safari mobile there's lots of question mark graphics in various posts.
The rest is fine.
