In for an iPad.
After the initial bonus, this card's main perk is $1 Thank You points for $1 in purchase. Best part about Citi credit cards for me is the virtual card number generator. I use that feature online a lot.

Interesting. the standard variable APR for purchases is 12.99% Rate 1, 16.99% Rate 2, or 20.99% Rate 3 in that order based on our review of your application and credit history. I doubt I'd make rate 1.. maybe rate 2

Just another card with a smooth little $100 catch to get their foot into the door of your wallet. Sort of interesting that it can take up to 8 weeks after the 3 month promotional period for the $100 credit to be applied.

Other than the iPad and No Annual Fee, nothing good can be said about this card. Read the fine print, it's a very misleading CC especially the $1 ThankYou points for all purchases. The 3 *** should make you think twice or even 3 times.

Citibank should provide a link to the ThankYou Points rewards (https://www.thankyou.com/) on the apply now (http://creditcards.citicards.com/usc/rewards/diamond/standard/May2010pricing/100credit/default.htm?BTData=C02177F7069617459544A40BBBEB1ACA19E9A8492FFFBF5E4EAC5C2D61B71787&BT_TRF=3638&app=UNSOL&sc=4D3ZJ2E0&m=4CJGMDO020W&langId=EN&siteId=CB&B=M&screenID=3000&uc=4AN&t=t&link=Consumer_260997072&ProspectID=B708DD3B36A14E4D89D22E9715989036) page. That would help those that need a(another) credit card to make a more informed decision.
P.S.: Free iPads are nice too. :D

There are always asterisks, such as...
"* Length of your introductory period will be either 0% for 15 months from the date of account opening on purchases and balance transfers, or 7 months from the date of account opening on purchases and balance transfers based on our review of your application and credit history."
"Purchases not eligible to receive the additional points include, but are not limited to, purchases made at warehouse clubs, discount stores and convenience stores. Online and catalog purchases are not eligible to receive additional ThankYou Points unless the merchants appropriately identify the transactions."
I don't know about you, but a lot of my purchases would be made at warehouse clubs, discount stores and online.
kinda meh
Otherwise, I can certainly make use of a free iPad! Thanks Citi and Slickdeals.

damn, I just signed up for the Citi Forward card that gives you 5 Thank You points for purchases at bookstores, restaurants (fast food included), theaters, and music stores. 1 point for all other purchases.
I also have the Discover More card that gives you 5% cashback on travel/home & fashion/gas, hotels,movies/Restaurants and Fashion at different times of the year.
The Citi Diamond Preferred card with $100 for spending $300 seems like a better deal than the Citi Forward card.

The $100 back for spending $300 is pretty sweet but after that its like my world points card from BOA, not much different as you get 1 point for every $1 you spend, sometimes more depending on different sites you purchase on.
It also allows you to generate virtual numbers to purchase online so same for that and does not cost to have.
Not much different other then getting back $100, maybe the APR is lower then mine ,did not check that and their maybe the service is better and their rewards are nicer.
Seems decent for people who are looking for a rewards card that don't have one.
bakadong
05-22-2010, 06:01 AM
the $100 after spending $300 sounds too good to be true. What kind of vendors can we purchase from and will discounts be considered in the total sum? 1 point per $1 has already been done by other banks. I have a BoA card that offers 1.5 points per dollar spent.
bakadong
05-22-2010, 06:03 AM
Agree with Blazing0319; $100 back for $300 sounds great but I have to wonder what vendors qualify? BoA has a card that offers 1.5 points for every dollar spent.

05-22-2010, 06:04 AM
1) $100 bonus is nice (it's great that it's a statement credit not point)
2) Thank you network rewards program is not very good, it ends up being 1% or less depending on which GCs you redeem for. You can't redeem for cash at 1%, it takes a while (weeks) to receive GCs.
3) "0% Balance Transfer offer" is in reality a 3% BT offer since the BT fee is uncapped
from T&C: "The transaction fee for balance transfer is 3.0% of the amount of each balance transfer, $5 minimum."
Conclusion, get your statement credit and covert the card to 1% cash back card or close it and apply for a new bonus.

A couple of things about this card... first is the "diamond" label - sigh trying to push a new tier out is always a pain no one really knows what "diamond" is. The second is the uncapped balance transfer fee of 3%. As companies get more comfortable tossing out 0% balance transfers the 3-5% uncapped balance transfer fee becomes a bit of a joke as it is not "fine print worthy" anymore and is a very real expense.

Interesting. the standard variable APR for purchases is 12.99% Rate 1, 16.99% Rate 2, or 20.99% Rate 3 in that order based on our review of your application and credit history. I doubt I'd make rate 1.. maybe rate 2
Yeah, interest rates seem pretty high, but I haven't applied for a new credit card since all the regulation started taking place. Maybe they've all jumped up.
Someone mentioned "No Annual Fee" I must have looked past that??? Maybe this is the difference - the lower interest rate cards have fees, and the higher interest rate cards don't?
$300 to make $100 is pretty dang good since you're getting the $300 worth of deals also. It would be even better if they'd pay someone to track slickdeals and give us cashback for items posted on here??? :-)

Not a bad introductory offer - watch out though. I used to work for Citi and your APR, depending on credit, can approach 30%.

It's a decent deal although not front page material. If it's available in your state, the Key Bank free iPod Touch offer for opening a free checking account is considerably sweeter, in my opinion.

It's only approx 1% back, and even less depending what you use the points on. However, I like that you can use the points directly on Expedia for flights and hotels.
Not a bad offer by citi. But already have too many cards.

Well i think this is a great card! It is good for beginners, since if you spend $300 you get $100 back. And good since there's a 0% APR for up to 15 months, plus no annual fee. But after this deal ends, I may be harder to keep up with everything. Not a bad card. Not a bad ipad.
dersimden
05-22-2010, 07:18 AM
What do they mean "up to 15 months"?
I'd like to buy a new macbook pro this summer and I was looking for a new credit card with at least 12 months no APR on purchases. I would get pissed if I apply for this and then get only 6 months.

I already have a platinum card from Citibank and wouldn't mind having this one but unless I'm mistaken, opening another account (even with the same institution) triggers an inquiry on your credit report.
Btw, I have a card with Chase Bank and Bank of America but I've personally found Citibank's customer service to be better. I rarely ever use my Chase or Bank of America card's after experiencing some unsatisfactory customer service issues.

Other than the $100 credit, I don't really see anything special about it. The credit isn't enough to get me to sign up for a new car and do that damage to my credit score. I'd also need to know what the apr was after the introductory period, and I'd look into that if I were interested.
Also, it doesn't appear to be a rewards card, which is just silly these days.

05-22-2010, 07:42 AM
After you win the iPad, you could use your brand spanking new Diamond card to buy another iPad. You would get a cool hunnert, and your first iPad would have someone to talk to when you're gone (they have wifi, you know). It's really a win-win. Unless, of course, the iPads conspire together to menace the neighborhood, eventually leading to the end of civilization and the rise of our machine overlords. And really, that is the most likely outcome. But you would still have your c-note, so...not too shabby.

$100 statement credit after $300 in purchases within the first 3 months of membership, and 0% APR on balance transfers and purchases for up to 15 months with No Annual Fee. The standard variable APR for purchases is 12.99% Rate 1, 16.99% Rate 2, or 20.99% Rate 3 in that order based on our review of your application and credit history.
And you could win an Ipad! This is Great!

Balance Transfer offers used to be so much better - max of like $90 in transfer fees - NOW::
"The transaction fee for balance transfer is 3.0% of the amount of each balance transfer, $5 minimum."
Note there is no max. I guess it depends on what rate you are comparing it to that you are now paying- and if you can pay it off in the 15 months before the rate jumps!
PS - I did this $100/$300 w/ Sony - just ended up with another CC to pay!
