How do you quote from retired threads?

Laina: You truly are a wonderful person! :grouphug:

M2C: That is awesome your BFF is coming to visit! MY BFF moved to Costa Rica about 18 months ago and I rarely get to see her. Her parents live about 1 hour from me in MI and she visited over the 4th. I got to see her for 2 days and she finally got to meet my little guy. I realized how much I miss her. Hope you have fun. :)

TN: Totally know what you mean about creamer in the house! I have been making my way through the large canisters of the regular powder since I had coupons for them :D but I really love the hazelnut liquid. Got some last night and actually was excited to get out of bed this morning to brew a pot  Lame, I know.

Went to KM and had a good run. i always thought the AMEX GC activation charges were higher than visa GC. Pleasantly surprised. ;)

Downtown Gainesville, FL is really bad w/ people begging for money. It is actually difficult to walk around because you are constantly being approached.

Have any of you done GS on a Thursday? I have heard multiple times that it is the best day.

pls help! has anybody had problems getting the free movie ticket from buying toy story and toy story 2, or is dh just spastic? he tried to do it yesterday, he said he put in the code, he got 150 points?, didn't get any movie code so he clicked on *redeem movie tickets* and just got a unique code and instruction to take pictures of the stubs and upload them. so i'm thinking he probably just lost a free movie ticket.

i don't want to try redeeming another if it's not working.

oh yes, do y'all think toy story 3 will still be in movie theatres the 3rd wk of aug? that's when SIL is coming from italy w/ the 2 kids and i was saving the free tix so the 4 of us could see the movie. but if not, i'll use it b4 then. not much experience seeing movies in the theatre. we had to drive to another cty, to an old decrepit theatre to see titanic b/c we waited so long.

Morning, everyone! Enjoying my second cup of coffee, doing nothing when I should be doing everything.

Hubby took our son's bed apart and its now sitting out by the curb. Ever wonder what's lurking under your 5yo son's bed?! *That* is what I must face next. :faint: The awesome news is we go tonight to pick up his "new-to-us" bed. :yay: I'm a little nervous because its a loft bed, but ecstatic because it comes with its own dresser. Which means his dresser can be passed on to his little sister and free up so much more space for everyone. But ... I need to get his room straightened out first.

So ... off I go!!
We put our boys in loft beds last year and at first I was a little hesitant about the younger one but wow they are nimble little things at that age. And the only thing worse than cleaning the boys room was helping my 12 year old dd clean her room.

good luck!! I always find embarassing amounts of Legos, happy meal toys, dust bunnies, and random parts of toys and remotes under the beds

:rofl2: What is it about little boys? :D Well, the worst part is done. Now to get the rest of his room looking as nice. :shake:

Setsail, did you have any troubles with them falling off? My son has never fallen out of his toddler bed, but then, its a fire engine bed so a little difficult to fall out of. I'm just a little nervous because he moves around everywhere when he sleeps and I'm scared he'll fall out a couple times before his body learns the boundaries. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it!

Does it have a front rail? The 3 yr old moves around a lot in his sleep as well and he hasn't fallen. I was most worried about the climb in and out of the bed but the bed isn't high off the floor (40 inches) so he doesn't have far to fall. Hope your ds likes his new bed!

Found nothing worth getting excited about at KM. No $1.99 toys at all. Got 2 baby animal alives-- I thought if my boys could learn to be nice to a baby maybe they will a)learn to be nice to each other and b) nice to a younger sibling when the time comes!

Other than that, got lots of weber seasonings with the $0.55 MQ for $0.20 after doubles.

LMAO!!!!

I need to go hunt down the Kmart list too. Their 90% off finds are always fun.

my 6-year old was walking the dog in the backyard this morning and found a yellow jacket nest. She came running screaming into the house with yellow jackets all over her and the dog :faint: She's okay now after some Bactine and Benedryl but I can tell the poor dog is uncomfortable :( ugh. I hate bugs/bees/etc.

I don't mean to butt in, but if your dog is uncomfortable from the stings and that seems to be all you can him a Benedryl, also. Our dog is 15 pounds and we give her 12.5 mg (1/2 pill) every 8-12 hours as needed-it probably will only be needed once or twice. This can cause drowsiness but should help the venom of the bites and make your pup somewhat more comfortable.

Went to the library in town, grabbed a few more books for Mom and I. She's still visiting. We read, we swim. Occasionally, I accomplish something. Oh, oh, like yesterday. I got these two cube thingys at an auction. They are divided into 12 sections for shoes. I pulled the stuff off my closet shelf and hoisted them up there - they are heavy little buggers. I have the neatest, most organized shoes you've ever seen. I discovered that one of them has all 12 cubbies full of my shoes -- 2 pair in some and my steel toed water proof boots on top. The second one has several more cubbies filled with my shoes (mostly flip flops) and dh has, umm, 3 pair. A casual brown leather like for jeans, a slip on tennis shoe, and pair of sandals. His work boots don't go there.

:woot:

We're a Method household, too. Now we can be laundry buddies :whee:

We switched to Method after my fragrance allergies got really bad and I could no longer use Cheer. Plus I discovered that Tide and Cheer, have the first and second highest concentrations, respectively of 1,4 dioxane, which is a water-soluble carcinogen. No thank you.

We love Method! Not as much dry skin since we started using it. Clothes feel softer. Fewer respiratory allergies. Happy, happy we are.

We use Method Fresh Air but I have been developing a fragrance allergy to that also, mild as it is, so we're thinking of switching to Method Fragrance Free. A little goes a long, long, long way with that detergent. They say 4 pumps, but I found you only need that for really large, really soiled loads. For average sized loads of everyday use stuff like towels and nightclothes 2 pumps suffices.

Ooh, if you have a CVS in your neck o' the woods (I still can't keep track of who is where), keep your eye out for Free after ECB deals for Method. We got ours free last year. :D

I found some $2 Qs at Kroger and then one T clearenced the purple label one so I bought them all for less than $3 ec.

I do have CVS but I hate it. I have quit the drugstores for now. I was loving RA but I got sick or tired one week and lost $40 +ups so I just started spending what was left. I burned all my RRs too. ONce we get to AZ I will go back to CVS and Wags again, will miss RA though. PLus I will have to learn ALL new grocery stores too. I dont have a little anxiety over it all but I can't get there fast enough. Had an older guy in a white pickup drive by my house this evening going 3mph twice! so that could be a good sign. I am in the middle of doing windows and a weaving while watching DVR.

I've NEVER used Method, but they have some scents that really intrigue me. I need to find some on clearance, then I'd probably be addicted if they smell good. Until I run out of something though, I won't just buy it to try, unless it's almost free. I did buy that pink dragonfruit Cascade, because I love pink and it smells so good. So I'm using that instead of my Electrasol stockpile now...LOL

purple one - that's lavender or lavender vanilla or something like that, right?
i can't do lavender scents cos of fragrance allergies/migraines, so I stay away from anything marked lavendar.

we like the blue one. it's fairly mild, and fresh/sweet smelling.
or we liked it anyways.
now that i'm starting to getting sensitive to it (and i mentioned it saying I wanted to launder my clothes separately so I can use minimal amounts cos the scent's bothering me) the tribe is beginning to notice it and they're not liking it either. :shake:

i couldn't even get the basic knit and purl right without dropping stitches and messing up counts. :O

So I got a how to knit book, and did lots of google searching looking up sites with pictures, and got some practice yarn, and practiced a square of exactly what i imagined I wanted to make him. first few squares were MESSY. but then I got it. 1.5 weeks later I was knitting. :D

When mum arrived, we picked out good knitting needles and lovely cashmere yarn, and I created my own pattern  and knit a long grey scarf, with tassles.

so phooey, girl. if you want to do it, go for it. you gave birth to 5 babies. and you're raising them. if you can do that, you can knit.

i also walked past the Ed Sullivan theatre where they tape the Late Show W David Letterman. you can request tickets at http://www.lateshowaudience.com if you go, letterman keeps the theatre very chilly, so dress warm!

i know they also tape the Wendy Williams show in new york. i think near macys 34th st. you can also get tickets to The View but you have to be there very early. i'm sure there are other tv shows you can watch being taped. the food tv network has studios by chelsea market. there should be some game shows you can get tickets for also.

Little town nearby is having it's little town festival -- Sweet Corn Days, I believe. We are going to the city wide yard sales then to another little town to an auction. Beats sittin' home, I guess.

morning! :wave2:

gt- i will give you one serving of fruits and veggies for the sauce since they count half a cup of tomato sauce as a serving. the onions and peppers that are part of that half cup are there for texture and flavoring, like the basil and oregano which don't count either. so unless you had a veggie lasagna and got more veggies than just the sauce, no credit for them:shake:.

and...you get credit for a fruit, not a veggie. actually, the pepper is a fruit too. the onion is a veggie but unless you had a half to whole medium onion in your piece of lasagna,:shake:.

so yesterday morning i got up early again and got to target a little after opening, b/c i was going to meet a friend for lunch. no activity whatsoever in the toy section. scanned a u build battleship and it came up 75% off so i knew markdowns were in effect. but it didn't look like anything had been moved in the clearance aisle since the day b4. the rest of the toy section looked like it had been reset. went to the lego aisle and the passenger plane was gone! 24 hrs b4 there were 3 of them . i need to *compare* more items at target!

asked phil, very nice helpful employee who checked for the snowcone maker the other wk and who i learned works in books and dvds but helps out in toys, if he could check. supposedly still 2 in the store. go to the back, can't find them. had a little chat. they do take some things to the back to mark down, but there is no rhyme or reason as to what or why. may come back out after the team huddle at 10am if they are pushing stuff out, or may come back out a wk from now. he doesn't work on that team so he doesn't know why. he did say this markdown team is better than the one b4. hard to believe.

so while i waited till after the 10am huddle, i scanned the entire toy section for stuff mentioned in deals. i pretty much had it all to myself. after about an hr, there were some casual shoppers, but i don't think there was anybody specifically hunting clearance. ended up w/ a whole cartload. a lot of stuff that people got 75 off were full price, like the pharoah lego, harry potter legos, fp lp zoo. target being it's usual ymmv self. the bubble mower was only 30 off, etc, so definitely gotta go back next wk to check the 2nd round. there were 2 water tables totally unmarked. since i still have the one from last yr in my basement, i resisted, but i did tell this mom w/ 2 kids who had asked me where i found all the toys and esp legos. told her you have to check every aisle. thought about it, decided to be nice and chased her back down to ask her how old her son was (2.5) and told her he might be a little old for it but there were 2 water tables for 75 off. dunno if she was interested.

10am came and went, 10:30 i had to go check out. the 90 off thermos cube cooler which i found stuck in the gardening section on thurs (so INF now) was now by a scanner in the pantry section. thought about trying to get it since i had a whole cartload of toys and even trying to give phil's name but again decided against it (trying to fight the hoarding tendency) and didn't want to get a good source of info in trouble.

must have hit 75% of the red lights on the way to the bus stop and there was one yellow i should have gunned. not that familiar w/ the parking deck, so had a little trouble figuring out how to get to the other side to get a shady spot. heard the bus pull in 4 floors below. raced down. everybody had already boarded. stood there shoving 16 qtrs into the little tiny slot and bus pulled away. sigh!!! still had to buy a bus ticket.

so of course the next bus was over 5 minutes late and people still had to board and load luggage! i would have had plenty of time to make that one. so i was more than half hr late meeting my friend.

nice lunch, walked up 8th ave in Hell's Kitchen. many, many small inexpensive restaurants that my friend was interested in coming back to for lunch w/ her coworkers. tm4d- this a residential area north of times square known for it's restaurants. every year they have the ninth ave food festival. when i used to go in the 80's it used to be mostly about food from the local restaurants. it's now become just like every other street fair in ny. it is fun, very crowded but not so special anymore. they also have a flea market every weekend. i've been wanting to go. we always drive past on the way to somewhere else.
http://www.hellskitchenfleamarket.com/home/?page_id=77

ended up at The Shops at Columbus Circle that i'd been meaning to check out for a long time. tm4d- it's a small upscale mall that overlooks the monument for christopher columbus and the southwest corner of central park. very pretty view and maybe very nice fall foliage when you are in town. i think the bennetton and sisley are going out of business. almost everything 70 off, suits 30 off and a whole empty fixture section in the back although they actually didn't put up signs saying that. had an enjoyable time shopping summer clearance in the mall but we both ended up empty handed.

hit a target greatland on the way home. most of the aisles were half empty. to practically barren. the funny thing was the half aisle devoted to clearance still had the 30 off signs . still managed to find a few things. found a color explosion glow board mixed in w/ other crayola boards in the toy section, scanned 5.02. later ended up in the crayola aisle, they had about 10, only one was marked down like 30 off. mightily resisted taking all of them since i got everyone the glowboard on the go earlier this yr. still bought 4 to see if bff wants any and stick one or 2 in the gift closet.

i'm rambling b/c i can't decide if i should go back to target and hunt for more toys and see if people ever figured out the toys went 75 off and if i should hit different store to hunt for treasure. i got home late so i have a trunkload still in the car that i have to unload b4 i go b/c i don't want them to bake in the sun. hence my trying to find a shady spot earlier and missing the bus.

what to do...

and then i have to check the ratings on everything i bought and return anything that got panned. and figure out where to put everything until bdays and xmas!

l2b- i wish either you lived w/in driving distance or it was reasonable to ship. i totally would have gotten one for you. as it is, dunno what's going to happen to the one sitting in my basement from last yr.

hah! maybe i should ask my friend if he is planning to drive to georgia any time soon! he has relatives near savannah and drives down occasionally. one day i will hitch a ride w/ them to visit my bro in atlanta. i usually see him and family when he comes here for business and to see his in-laws. i want to go to atlanta again but my family doesn't seem interested and every time we visit my bro they always end up away for business so we get free run of his apt and car :teehee: last time was just about 2 yrs ago.

guess i will go to target to check out the devastation. i would like a new microwave too. mine is 16 yrs old and rusting inside from all the condensation over time. anybody got a dpci?

Question for you all: I bought a Philips Dual Screen DVD player for my car from WM last week. When we opened the box, it was right before we were about to leave and we immediately realized it had been used (one of the screens was dirty, like something spattered onto it). We didn't have time to go back to WM, so we used it, it worked just fine, however, I really would like a new one b/c who knows how long this one will last. Do you think WM will hassle me if I go to exchange for a new one?

I don't think it will be a problem at all.. especially if u do an even exchange. My DH used to return to WM often. They were always much less hassle than target.

just say you realized after you bought it last wk that it had been used. just don't tell them you used it also :teehee:. not your fault they restocked a used item. if it had been new, the issue never would have come up. and you only go to walmart maybe once a wk b/c gas is expensive, so you waited till the next time you go. it's not like you used it for your trip and now you want to return it.

Anyway... then I bought two of those metal plant stands from Dollar General -- bough18" tall and $4 each. Works great for the two of them. Ummm, you don't have any kids.

yeah, but i got a bff/neighbor w/ 9yr old twin girls and 3yr old twin boys. cannot show up to birthday parties empty-handed. and the kids remember what you got them. oh yeah. and bff has hates her sil who gives her really cheap presents and she doesn't like it when other people give her stuff w/o gift receipts. at the same time bff doesn't want me to spend a lot of money so i really have to look really hard and also think carefully so kids don't fight. cannot make everyone happy all the time, so i get them very nice but inexpensive presents but can't do anything about not having a gift receipt. anyway bff would do way better if she regifted.

just this past march caught the older girl twin switching the little miss clip-on doll i used as a gift tag b/c she liked her sister's better and her sister said no when i told her to ask if she would switch. and then i spent a half hr to hr after the party consoling the wailing younger one b/c somebody gave her sister a highly collectible webkinz. at 9 yrs old she wouldn't accept that all the stores were closed and wanted her mom to buy one online w/ her bday money. but i knew her mom didn't want to spend $30 on a stuffed animal so it was really difficult to pacify her. her dad finally promised to take her shopping the next day.

luckily one likes pink and one likes purple and she's also more tomboy so i can usually give them different colored of the same item. except those little miss dolls. the one who likes purple liked the pink one better, sigh!

i buy them bday presents, usually ramadan presents and also xmas presents. can't invite them over for xmas day brunch to enjoy the xmas tree and holiday at somebody else's house and not have presents for them. xmas tree = xmas gifts to little kids.

then my db has a ds. one time for either his bday or xmas which are both in dec he asked if i got him a toy and i'd gotten him clothes. so now i always make sure he gets a toy. and i always do separate bday and xmas b/c my bday is always a few days after thanksgiving so my bday was always a cake after the turkey and people would give me a combined bday/xmas present which i hated.

sil has 2 teenage ds. sil is very traditional. every holiday has to be celebrated on that day and everyone has to have an xmas present. sil used to throw huge bday parties for her ds' and we used to live across the street for 3 yrs. after the parties dh used to drive sil to toyrus to return all the duplicates and triplicates. so long time ago i decided to put their bday presents and xmas presents and money that sil and bil would have gotten into a college fund every yr. but i still have to buy them something to open. this yr i don't know what they are going to get b/c they are now past toys and electronic games are too expensive as a token gift.

i think one of them will end up being my black friday shopping buddy this yr at walmart at midnite. last yr i helped him get a game by looking up the price on sd, and price matching it at target b/c walmart was sold out. he got a $30 game for $10. he is a very savvy kid. last yr he told me at thanksgiving he wanted a docking station for his ipod and i was able to get him one 75% off at target so he gets exactly what he wants. the other one is more difficult so i like to tease him. i keep telling him he can clean my car to earn money to buy stuff so last yr i gave him a car cleaning gift kit:lol:. and some stupid hamster or gerbil dvd that was a target deal last yr.

i have a nephew and niece in italy that come once a yr, usually around thanksgiving. i never see them for bdays and xmas so i like to give them some toys and clothes when they come and when sil comes also twice a yr for business. i also help sil shop when she's here b/c clothes are much, much cheaper here than italy but there is so much better quality. don't think it's fair that just b/c i only see them once a yr they don't get the gifts that their cousins get.

also have a god-daughter and her brother. she is also getting too old for me to buy toys and clothing for bday and xmas. i think her db is probably ok w/ legos for a few more yrs. i am so horrible at mailing stuff to them. i am 3 presents behind. another reason i need to change what i do in regards to presents b/c it's not working.

so thats 4 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 11 kids i've been shopping for every yr. i think starting this xmas it will only be 8 and 3 may end up w/ giftcards or money. and then the 2-9 yr old girls i may start taking them out shopping or ice skating, etc. starting next yr.

this doesn't include kids bday parties i get invited to, which luckily has been tapering off a lot recently as all my friends kids have gotten older. but that also means i don't get together w/ my friends as often anymore. however, in the couple yrs i have been seeing them at funerals for their parents. and this past yr for 2 of our friends :(

I have arthritis in my wrists and fingers among other places but I fear it will hinder the knitting thing so I will skip it most likely.

oh, hon that does sound like it could be very painful when knitting.

casein needle review from those with arthritis (http://knittersreview.com/article_tool.asp?article=/review/product/010412_h.asp)

:blowkiss:

i shattered my wrist and several metacarpals years ago. that hand has never acted the same, and cramps up with activity etc. I found picking the lighter non-metal needles, and knitting in to one's lap was very helpful for me. plus wool was much stretchier, so easier to do. especially if you pick one of those chunky yarns that are in style now, and knit one of those chunky scarves or blankets with the multicolored yarn - it's a looser weave, so less taxing on the hands.

My sister *hates* any of the 7th Gen cleaning products. She has 2 little ones with skin issues (terrible eczema) and so she likes to use as natural as she can get, but she has found the 7th Gen just doesn't clean at all. Almost better to just use hot water.

thanks for the review! will definitely keep in mind.
we use 7th gen hand was in the citrus flavor and love it. but i have yet to use any 7th gen household cleaners.

speaking of household cleaners, has anyone tried charlie's soap, and liked it?

tm4d, i walked past the Shake Shack near times sq today during lunchtime and there was a line outside of about 20 people. it's most famous for it's burgers...

my sister LOVES that place

.... I'm pretty sure if I look closely at the hot fudge label it will say that it has corn syrup in it. Corn is a vegetable too. ....

and now you just sound like the marketing team for the high fructose corn syrup lobby.
corn syrup ain't no vegetable. it's pure sugar that has been chemically manipulated to be even worse than pure sugar. :whip:
can you ask heidi to bark at you, and maybe even bite you, please?
thanks.

:P

i'm blaming bunnies for you thinking that corn syrup counts as a vegetable.

My DS#4's bday is 12/23. When he turned one, my MIL asked what she should get him. I replied with blah blah blah but just MAKE SURE it is wrapped in birthday paper! WTF does she bring over to his birthday party?!?!?! thats right a friggin gift wrapped in Xmas paper. I went off on her like never before. I was LIVID. It is just so disrespectful to that child, he had NO choice to be born that day! but she, the elder, should have cared enough about her grandchild....grrr
YOu are such a good friend. I know that we are here to get the 'grrs' out of everyones relationships here but everytime you talk about your bff, I dislike her more  I know that you dont tell us the lovely things she does or feels or shows you but the negitives just keep flowing.
MY DS#1 now 13 wanted to go BF shopping with me last year, I said no because I felt he wasn't BIG enough to survive being trampled or tall enough to see me over the crowd should we get seperated but if he offers this I might take him up on it seeing as how he now weighs the same as me to the 10th of a pound and is a 1/2'' taller.

So is anyone else doing Walgreens deals this week? I just figured up my 3 transactions and I will be paying $14.30 plus tax OOP. I haven't spent that much OOP in a LONG time at walgreens. I am trying to decide if it is worth it. I guess the problem I am having is that I am trying to end up with the same amount of RR as I start with, which is around $24 worth. This is what I will end up with:
14 boxes Kelloggs cereal
2 gal. milk
2 crayola markers
2 Goodys hair clips
2 pkg cottonelle TP (not sure why I think I need this as I have tons of charmin lol)
1 Keri Lotion
3 school folders

Tell me what you think. Am I paying too much OOP for this...cause well it is not free or close to it, which is what I am used to at WG. But I have not been shopping there as much and have let my RR dwindle down. Only good thing is I am in an A/C tax state so very little tax! lol

Hope everyone is having a great weekend..too stinkin hot here to do much of anything.

dazzled- you should show your ds how to do deal alerts and check all the black friday ads for stuff he wants and then have him go shopping w/ you. never too early to learn to manage your money and make it go further.

my nephew is 14, will be 15 in a couple wks. very sharp and wiser than his brother. he sells his stuff that he doesn't want anymore to his friends . last black friday he wanted the nba2k11 game but he didn't tell me until later that day and of course it was sold out already. so we made an agreement to shop black friday together this yr. since he is open to learning how to get the most for his money i will show him how. we all are well aware of how his mom wastes money buying so much food they can't eat. it finally sank into her head when her kids started making fun of how much bbq sauce she had in the basement pantry.

this year i will have him make a list of what he wants, go thru the ads for it and we will be standing on line at superwalmart at midnite. i've never done bf at walmart b4 so this will be a learning experience for both of us.

sil will be here from italy w/ the 2 kids and she wants an ipod so she will be standing on line w/ us unless she caved and bought it already. i just wish she would have the same attitude about buying dvds. i've told her over and over again if she would tell me which one she wants, i will get them b4 she comes and she can pay me back. last feb i took her shopping hrs b4 she left to go home and she was happy she got everything she wanted but it was so painful to watch her pay full price for glee, ugly betty, etc. esp when she complains about how expensive everything in italy is so she can't afford some stuff. i think she's already happy that it's cheaper here than italy. she just doesn't get that she could get it even cheaper if she planned a little better. she knows i will shop for her. i picked up a flip for her last yr. yesterday she said she wants a macbook but i will let dh do the shopping around for that since she already talked to him about it:P.

Morning Peeps :woot:

So many things happening in all our lives.

Lisa sorry to hear about your brother. Hospice will be great for your entire family.
Trevor is doing good.
Ank is just bought a house. Busy busy time.

Ahh now for the multiquotes it will be good. More moving and building...:omg:

Bunnies is playing in her garden with Puppy.:D

Heidi is now ruling the thread.

Now now kopenney is trying hard to keep up.

TN good luck and get well with that knee.

Oh yes ...hi to Kay and Slowtech and The Big HD and ummm :O thinking who else I am missing.

Need more Dew since I don't drink coffee. Gotta go shopping from Dew. One like Pepsi can in the house.

Life is going crazy around here..like normal. Back to work at Kohler for three weeks...actually tomorrow I will find out if my time gets extended. It was only a four week temporary job.

But by coming back to work there. My health insurance will get reduced when I have to restart paying my COBRA for it. So very excited..

The negative is I thought I had less time shopping ....now there is like none.

Next week it is up at 430 and in bed at 1100. Mon Tues and Friday. Both jobs with loads of driving. But reduced health insurance is around the corner.

I am guessing two more years until I get a permanent job again and at that time I can worry about less hours at penneys.

Once again morning :bounce:

I had a great afternoon with runs at 2 Rite Aids, and 3 Wags. Got most everything I wanted. Will have to head back to RA throughout the week, but got the biggies out of the way. Its gonna be a busy week for me here, so I need to get the shopping done when I can.

cashier was wrong.
they always have to put in mqs manually at staples.
and putting in as a manufacturer q will not work. there's a set of codes they have to put in and then just include it as a coupon. staples has a special code it uses for mqs, since they don't ring in as mqs in staples' registers.

you should try again.
if cashier can't do it, ask for an asst manager or manager. they usually know how to do it, and can show it to the cashier.

that was the asst mgr and she had a slight attitude problem. she came over when the cashier couldn't do it, then she tried to tell me that the coupon wasn't for the charmin basic b/c it wasn't in the picture. i told her that charmin makes a lot of products like wipes and they can't put all the pics on the q. that i use coupons at the supermarket all the time and it's for the right product. then she tried to tell me that staples system is different from supermarkets, they double coupons. me- that's different, not all supermarkets double coupons. i forget the rest of the exchange but dh basically told her if the registers can't take the coupon then staples system is wrong :lmao:. dh does IT so he knows it's BS. dh asked to speak to the mgr and she said she was the mgr and the only one there (attitude!) she basically said there was no way they could take the coupon, which i know is BS, there is always a way to do it. so i told her then i don't want them and walked out.

if you could do me a favor, if you ever use coupons at staples, if you could ask the cashier to write down how to put in the mfr coupons, i'd love to rub it in their face one day, like the way we tell cashiers at target they can k4 coupons when they say they can't adjust coupons down. i think the toilet paper promo is over today and my 2 q's expired today. otherwise i'd go back there and complain to the store mgr who i've talked to b4 and is really nice.

Kohler has a couple of things to see around the Village itself. Of course the museum...which is called the Design Center...Everyone usually sees the picture of the wall of colorful toliets that cover the southern wall.

John Michael Arts Center which is free in Sheboygan..

Kohler Andrea Park..

I also love the eatery Horse and Plow in the American Club...which house the immigrant workers that worked in the factory..

Also the Kohler factory tour that tours the most of the factory,

speaking of scrubbing toilets. I cleaned the one on the main floor last night and then just let the cleaner sit over night with the seat up. well my dd gets up this morning and didn't notice the seat was up, so when she sat down, she fell in! I kinda felt bad, but at the same time thought it was hilarious. I sent her upstairs to take a quick shower. she didn't think it was very funny at all.

So Mom was watching my 2 boys at her house this afternoon so that I could run 45 minutes worth of errands in peace and one of them (I am thinking the taller one), activated a silent hostage alarm on her alarm system. You know, like the alarm that the company doesn't even call to verify before they send police w/ guns a-blazing? That one. Several squad cars with cops in bulletproof vests and weapons surrounded my poor mother's house only to find a very frazzled grandmother w/ 2 wild boys. Little man of course runs right up to one of the cops and take his diaper off while my other son kept saying "'scuse me police why you come here?" OVER.and.OVER. My sister's little min pin is nipping at the cops' feet while our huge black lab just barked incessantly. By the time I got back, my mom was in tears. The police were very nice about it and after walking through the house & asking her several times if she was sure she was OK, they left. I told her it was at least reassuring that the alarm system still worked after all these years

I have 1 more exam for the Bar this Friday. The professional responsibility exam (MPRE) is basically the ethical component of admissions...asking questions about what do w/ conflicts of interest etc. Not as scary as the Bar but you still have to pass in order to get admitted. Wish me luck! Then on Sunday DH and I are taking the boys down to Islamorada in the Florida Keys for lobster season. :whee: We'll be there for a week! Definitely need to relax :)

Hello everyone :wave2: long time, no chat..

Well, made it to NC, visited with family, shed many tears, buried my brother, and drove back home yesterday.. somewhere along the way, I lost my coupon bag.. nice bag with my name stitched on it and everything.. had all of my coupons, a stack of T gift cards, etc.. I was pretty upset, but compared with all of the other stuff, it seemed minor.. now, I am starting all over with coupons! not one single coupon to my name  placed some orders today.. hoping to get some more kellogs coupons before the sale is over this week..

On the positive note, found out when I got home last night that SIL delivered.. I am an aunt again.. I  babies so much!

I was so tired that I slept almost 12 hours :omg: I was physically and emotionally drained.. woke up and needed some coffee to get going, but of course, I was out of creamer.. made me a little homemade mixture of hot milk, torani syrup, and cool whip.. I was yummy  so good that I fired up the Keurig for another cup!

TN- been thinking about ya! Glad to hear the surgery went well

TM4D- hope the packing is going well!

Ank- glad to hear you are all moved and starting to unpack.. always so nice getting into a new place. I am sure your girls will love having more space!

wanna hear a piece of good news? today, for the first time in 7.5 months, i managed to straighten my knee fully. yep, a completely flat leg on the PT bed. :bounce:

i know there will be such great news for you, too. onward and upward we shall go, you and I, my PT pal. yes, we will!

....
Well, made it to NC, visited with family, shed many tears, buried my brother, and drove back home yesterday.. somewhere along the way, I lost my coupon bag.. nice bag with my name stitched on it and everything.. had all of my coupons, a stack of T gift cards, etc.. I was pretty upset, but compared with all of the other stuff, it seemed minor.. now, I am starting all over with coupons! not one single coupon to my name placed some orders today.. hoping to get some more kellogs coupons before the sale is over this week..

....

i am so very sorry for your loss L2B. so very sorry. my prayers and strength and love go to your and your family and your brother's wife and kids.

what coupons do you need? i don't have any SS or PG, but have a few RPs from the past 2 weeks or so and can send you anything from there that you might need.
and also if you need anything printed.

i, too, am trying to get back into building a coupon collection, so can also flag you when i see any good deals on qs at clippers if you let me know particular qs you might be needing/using a lot. and whole inserts, do you like going that route?

once again, so, so, so sorry.

TN - great news!!

l2b - :sadwalk: So sorry for your loss.... and that your coupons/GC's have gone missing. I know it's minor but it always seems like that kind of stuff happens on top of things already being horrible and it just sux :( Enjoy being an aunt (again!)

packing is going well. I am really nearly done with what I can pack at this point. once we hit the 2-wk. mark I will be able to pack more stuff away (that's Thurs, eek!) and at one week even more stuff. dh's stuff....well I'm just gonna hope it gets done  The garage looks like a tornado hit but I wouldn't know where to start packing 75% of that crap. good thing our new garage is huge.

Ank, I wanna see pics!! The outside of your new house looks so similar to the one we are buying from the previous one's you'd posted!

Ank- glad to hear you are all moved and starting to unpack.. always so nice getting into a new place. I am sure your girls will love having more space!

 So so sorry about your loss.

Congratulations on being an auntie again - that is good news!

We are all a bit happy to have more space, though my toddler is not so happy about having a room separate from her big sister! She has snuck into big sister's room every night. *laugh*

Dreading today cause we have free tickets to go to Six Flags park and they expire this week so we told the kids we would go today.. SUpposed to be 100 degrees with heat index of 105+ :faint: I don't think I will last long out there in that heat, but I am gonna keep my word and try to go for a little while..

I hear ya l2b!!! My mom and I painted our whole front porch in this awful heat and humidity....was just talking with a friend yesterday about how there has been literally no break from it this year. It's relentless! We don't have a/c in our van (it just hit 200,000 mi. and we are hoping to replace it by next summer so I refuse to put the money into it) and it is sooooo hot to go anywhere. Pretty sure that dd, niece, and I have just gotten used to it. I try to run most errands in the morning and there's just so much to do around the house right now that it's kinda good that we have an excuse to be inside!

Try to have fun ;) And drink lots and lots and lots of water!!!

morning

i almost burned out the motor to my dc17 absolute animal while cleaning lint out of my dryer yesterday. i was about to turn it off and it shut itself off. then i couldn't turn it back on. just plugged it in right now and it's working again. phew! guess the motor just needed to cool down like my hoover would do on the rare occasion. next time i will be more careful of these delicate, expensive toys and will go down to the basement and get my baby shopvac that is built for these tougher jobs.

can i just say again that i liked my old vacuum better than this one? that one had a valve on the hose handle that you slid open to lower the suction when you were vacuuming things like drapes or things that would narrow or block the suctioning like the dryer cleaning tool was doing. i'm sure this feature would have helped to prevent potential motor burnout.

i just got the dc23 dyson turbinehead canister. it's funny how on my latest dyson they have added so many features back that my 20yr old vacuum already had that they didn't include in my older dyson. it now has a finger pull mechanism to lessen the suction, but you have to keep pulling on it to keep the valve open which was a pain when i was vacuuming my mattress and foam mattress pad the other day. now all the tools lock on to the hose and wand. i hate how the crevice tool keeps popping off my upright dyson which was really poorly designed. it is bent, so if you put any pressure on it, it pops right off. who tested the d*** thing b4 it went into production???

still testing out my new dyson and i may have to buy a couple extra accessories from them. b/c of the way they designed the new tool locking mechanism, you cannot use universal vacuum tools on it. and would you believe the mini turbine head from my dc17 won't fit on my new dc23??? even though it does have the locking mechanism. the tube is a totally different size. i wonder if they have some sort of adapter??? i will try to use the big turbinehead attached just to the hose and see how it works on the stairs which was one of the issues w/ all of my old vacuums. it was very awkward trying to use the upright. i do love how the wand can adjust to many different lengths on my new dyson. even the old hoover only had 2 lengths.

these later generation dysons now have more of the features that justify the price. except for maybe having more suction, you were paying a hefty premium for the looks of the old generation dysons. my dc17 absolute animal is only worth the 50% off i got it at and overpriced at full price. the new dc23 has more of the features other vacuums in it's price range have and you expect.

went to national night out and took bff's dd's. you could see more evidence of the bad economy. for the first time in 10 yrs, the army helicopter did not come. they did not have goldfish as a prize for one of the games. target was not a sponsor so no target freebies, even though the local store just went p-fresh last wk. you would think they would have planned some sort of advertising. they served beef and pork hotdogs instead of all beef as in prior yrs so the girls couldn't eat them. no cotton candy like last yr.

still had a very good time. the girls did henna tattooing, temporary tattoos, spin art, origami, face painting, had a caricature drawing done, played a couple games, ate fresh popcorn, ice pops, chips and luckily wawa supplied drinks other than the usual birch beer the local beverage company donates every yr. don't know what happened to their manners so had to remind them to thank everyone.

lucky as usual the weather was good. low 90's at 6pm but not humid and cooled down a bit when the sun went down so we were very comfortable the whole time.

It is killing me, trying to decide weather or not to pull the trigger on the amazon T3i deal....gah! I really really want one, it seems like a nice price, especially if I sell the 2 extra unneeded things could get a nice set down to $650ish gah.
:wave2:

Definitely need to relax )

Uber dead in this thread lately. Hope all are doing well. I cannot believe it's August already :fint:

Oh slowtech on the topic of vacuums....I love my Dyson dc18 slim....they don't make this one anymore I don't think but it is not a ball one but not bulky either; the head does swivel. Anyway, MUCH more easy to manuever than my mom's big Dyson. Just love that thing. I actually like vacuuming :woot:

Anyway, I need something better for stairs for the new house. We've not had carpeted stairs in this house. I looked at the Dyson handheld (which my mom has and I'm not impressed with + I don't think I'd like it for stairs) and their digital slim as well (not convinced that's really what I want either) and was looking on Amazon and found this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006HUYGM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Awesome reviews. Anyone have any thoughts or other recommendations??? Any attachments for the Dyson that work well. The Dyson I have is fairly light, still clunky to lug downstairs all the time but doable so if there was a good attachment suitable for stairs I'd consider that too.

L2B -

"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

Thanks guys for all the hugs  and thoughts, prayers, etc..

I made it through our day at six flags today.. It was actually a very nice day. We had a great time. Didn't get super hot until around 3 pm.. We went to the water park for awhile and cooled off, then back to the rides. The crowds were minimal so everyone got to ride all they wanted.. By 6 pm I was wiped out so we left. Stopped by and got some dinner on the way home. I was right beside target and didn't even stop.. just too exhausted :faint:

Then, came home to 2 floral deliveries at home and several really nice cards in the mail.. so, all in all, a pretty darn good day!

Happy Thursday morning, ladies (and gentlemen?)!

I am determined to cross some more items off my cleaning to-do list, so that is what I will be doing today. And hubby has assured me he will clean the bathrooms tonight so I can go out shopping. :bounce:

Next week starts VBS at our church. I love doing it and teaching and everything, but it is such an exhausting week for both me and the kids. Gotta somehow make sure we get enough rest this weekend to start off on the right foot.

Coming up with my shopping list for Target this morning. Man, its been a LONG time since I've been there!

morning! :wave2:

saw the preview for *30 minutes or less* last nite. got off to a slow start but picked up speed and ended w/ a bang, literally. had some really funny moments where you couldn't help but burst into laughter. totally improbable, incredible amounts of cussin', graphic language, good casting, good comedic timing and pretty good pacing of the movie.

it's rated R and b/c of the extremely adult humor and language, i would definitely adhere to it and then some. while there is no gratuitous nudity and xxx scenes whatsoever, i definitely would have totally felt uncomfortable taking my nephew who's turning 15 this month. and while i think his brother who's turning 17 in november should have heard it and seen it all by now, it's not a movie i would recommend for him either.

dh said it wasn't a movie we would have paid money to see in the theatre. there's not really any special effects, beautiful scenery or anything to really warrant making a special trip to the theatre. it's the kind of dvd you rent for one night after the kids are asleep or watch in the theatre when you are in a bitchy mood. i don't think i would watch it w/ friends and/or family b/c you don't want them to think less of you. more of like a secret guilty pleasure.

Awesome reviews. Anyone have any thoughts or other recommendations??? Any attachments for the Dyson that work well. The Dyson I have is fairly light, still clunky to lug downstairs all the time but doable so if there was a good attachment suitable for stairs I'd consider that too.

tm4d- i would go w/ the eureka handheld. i like that it has 2 separate motors, one for the powerbrush and one for the suction attachments and that it's small and easy to maneuver.

if you look around, a mini turbine accessory for any vacuum cleaner or whole house vacuum costs at least $50. for less money you can get a whole separate vacuum that is more versatile and portable and has more functions than just getting one accessory.

i have an over 10 yr old, now discontinued hoover twist and vac for $40, which i got b/c my hoover canister fell down the stairs twice and was a dangerous situation. at the time, there wasn't much choice, this one and a dirt devil that got even worse reviews that my mom had and the switch broke twice.
http://www.epinions.com/reviews/Hoover_Twist_And_Vac_Hand_Held_Cleaner_S1147_900_Vacuum_Cleaners

the good part is that it does pull out an unbelievable amount of dust and dander out of the staircase carpeting. each time after vacuuming i use a 1 inch foam brush to dust off the filter and incredible amounts of fine grey dust comes off which is supposedly 50% skin.

the bad part is that it has a hose attachment that clips over the brush roll to use the crevice tool and brush tool and the suction is practically nonexistent. so hopefully my new dyson dc23 will fix this problem b/c it's built to sit on the stairs and i can use the crevice tool on that. i was hoping i could also use my mini turbine on it but to be honest, when i tried it b4 on the upright vacuum, the hose gets in the way big time. it's just very awkward in the confined area of the stairs. works better on the sofa, etc where there is much more elbow room to maneuver. i was thinking i could maybe alternate, use the mini turbine when i needed to use the crevice tool and just use the handheld when the stairs wasn't that dirty.

i think the eureka will work very well. the brush will bring the pile back up on the carpet and you can pull back the plastic shield to vacuum the risers. and then it has a second dedicated motor for the crevice tool so it should work a lot better than mine.

since it plugs in, it should last for many yrs instead of slowly dying every few yrs like the cordless ones do when the battery won't recharge.

i think the only thing it's missing is a dusting brush. if the crevice tool detaches from the hose and maybe you can use the dusting brush from your dyson then you will be golden.

now you are making me think i should upgrade. the hoover is over 10 yrs old and i'm sure i could sell it to offset the cost of a new one.

actually they made me a DVD, but I don't think I'll ever look at it

i am pretty sure your teenage nieces and nephews would be interested in watching. kids kinda like watching those kinds of things. next time you visit you should bring the dvd and some popcorn. who knows, you may spur an interest in medicine in one of them.

Hello TCCers!

Tomorrow is hopefully my last exam for Bar admissions. Then our 6 year anniversary is on Saturday (although we don't have a sitter, so we're not doing anything) and then down to the Florida Keys for 6 days. Can't wait...will hopefully do at least 1 scuba dive and hopefully we'll net a bunch of lobster! :yummy: Either way, it will be a nice getaway :)

My sister will also be there and has volunteered her babysitting services while we are there. :whee:

Can anyone use some b3g1 (19s) sprout organic baby food MQs? They expire 9/15 and I won't use them. LMK

I love my Dyson dc18 .....I need something better for stairs for the new house. Ok, I'll ask... Why do you need something different for the stairs? That's one of the things I like about mine. The attachments will practically suck the paint off the walls so it gets all the stuff (in my house, it's dog hair) and the hose is long enough to reach the whole stairway. And, I can stand upright.

Ohhhh all the recipes remind me....I remember some of you talking about "real" cornbread, like the cast-iron skillet kind, awhile ago. Anybody care to share a recipe? I uncovered the cast iron skillet while we were packing and I wanna try it :yummy: DH is gonna about be elated if I actually cook something in that thing :teehee: I KNOW they are good for cooking but they are so. HEAVY. Gonna try it after we get moved and I actually have room to store it in the kitchen.

I have a small 9" cast-iron pan that I cook cornbread in. I use Morrison's Texas Style Cornbread Mix. We like it because it is not too sweet.

I heat the pan in the oven and then add bacon grease or butter and heat pan a while longer. Add cornbread mix, it will sizzle if pan is hot enough.

I do not wash pan because it is well seasoned. Just wipe it out. Nothing sticks.

I think that's the one but if not, I use the cornbread recipe on the side of White Lily Corn Meal mix. It's yummo out of the iron skillet!!:yummy:

I just realized I used the word "yummo" in both of today's posts. I need to a. get out more and b. stop watching Rachael Ray.

That. Is. All.

do you have The Joy of Cooking?
It has two recipes: Northern Style Cornbread, Southern Style Cornbread.
I have tried both recipes, and they both turn out absolutely delicious.

If you don't have the book I can post the recipes here later. they're super easy to make. I bought a bag of cornmeal last year around thanksgiving. all you need is about a cup or so, plus some flour, etc. super easy and quick to make and affordable.

Ok, I'll ask... Why do you need something different for the stairs? That's one of the things I like about mine. The attachments will practically suck the paint off the walls so it gets all the stuff (in my house, it's dog hair) and the hose is long enough to reach the whole stairway. And, I can stand upright.
Mainly because for the few stairs I do have to clean with it right now (to our landing) I have a few issues with it. First issue is that if I accidentally place the wand completely perpendicular to the floor it will suck so hard that it pulls the vacuum over. The hard, non-flexible part of the wand is a bit hard for me to maneuver on the stairs as well at times. Overall I find it just too big and clunky to haul for the job too. Some of these issues might be because the space I have to work in right now is so small if that makes sense. Either way, I do plan to try the Dyson at the new house because I don't think I am going to order a different one until after we move anyway. I may find that I like it in that space. I love my attachments and use them for everything else under the sun (and also looked at other attachments, thought there might just be some better ones out there) but just didn't like them for the stairs.

DH also thinks it is absolutely necessary that we have something with a brush for the stairs. I'm not so convinced that it is a necessity. We'll see :)

ETA: nope GG, no book, thanks for all the recipe ideas!! My mom has been making this "Grandma's Buttermilk Cornbread" something-er-other from AllRecipes and that one is delicious but it's just baked in the oven in a pan, no clue if it's the real southern deal or not. I just wanna try it in the skillet the southern way for fun ;)

ok, sweets, i'll post it later this evening for you.

just gotta get it all typed out or scanned.

if you ever get a chance to buy it, that is one cook book i recommend. it has no pictures. just illustrations and text. is almost like an encyclopedia. but there is no basic recipe it doesn't have. and everything i have ever tried making from there has turned out amazingly well. it really is like a reference book or a book to teach oneself different things to cook. i love it. it is my most used cookbook.

I did it, I bit. I got the Nikon D5100 w/ 3 lens and a starter kit this morning for almost $900. I am simmering in excitement I hope I pee my pants in elation when it comes but the price tag has a lid on it for now.

LMK

Good luck tomorrow. Not that you need it. Got your envie today. Thanks so much for the Qs.

I love my Dyson for cleaning the stairs.. that long wand and hose works wonders for all kinds of cleaning :) I did recently obtain the smaller DC35 mulifloor dyson and I do like using it on my wood floors and tile. It is much lighter!

Oh. My. Goodness. I just recently obtained the same vacuum. I'm saving it for the new house, but I can't wait to use it.

Dh is so not a slickdealer. He wanted a new pair of shoes and I found a decent price on a website. I asked him to stop at a shoe store and make sure which size he needed but he swore that he wore the same size he always has. You know, even when he was 25 years old. I ordered that size and what do you know? Too small (like I told him they would be). 6.95 shipping to us and 12.80 to ship them back so I spent $20 to figure out his shoe size. but at the same time, grrrrrrrrr

So this new barcode is not nearly as smart as we were lead to believe. Or those programming it aren't as smart as we thought. :shake: My understanding was that it would be programmed w/expiration dates and they would beep if expired. Well ... I decided to try some of those Pop-Tarts IPs that I had, at a SCO at Giant, just to see if they would work, being 2 days expired. Guess what? ;)

Plus, someone in the CVS thread mentioned that the long barcode automatically deducts the highest amount written on the coupon, regardless of the price of the item... :faint:

Anyway, thought I'd share that with y'all. I had a great time running around searching for clearanced diapers and instead finding all sorts of other treasures. Oh, and getting a buttload of Pop-Tarts. :D

Heading to bed here shortly! You all talking about Dysons are making me slightly envious. :O

i read that retailers can choose not to read certain areas of the barcode just like target does now but of course it's not recommended.

So strange. I mean, why go through all the expense to tighten things up, and then not require all stores to be on board? Not that I'm advocating for more rigidity, but I just don't get why they felt the need for this big huge change and then it kinda seems like all bark, no bite. :dontknow:

some stores let you do an even exchange and waive return shipping if you do that.
check with the site you ordered from. just say you need a bigger size because your usual size did not fit in that style/make (not that your DH just guessed :lmao: ) and see if they will accommodate you. generally, they do for both return shipping and shipping costs on sending the new pair out to you.

So strange. I mean, why go through all the expense to tighten things up, and then not require all stores to be on board? Not that I'm advocating for more rigidity, but I just don't get why they felt the need for this big huge change and then it kinda seems like all bark, no bite. :dontknow:

i'm thinking this is one of those things where the first level of implementation was compatibility and readibility. that all store systems can read/scan the new barcode.

next level will be getting store register systems programmed to reject expiration dates, sizes, etc based on barcode info. being able to read that info is just one thing. but in order to make a decision based on the info contained in the barcode, your system needs to be able to run things up against a flow chart and a database. that's a lot of programming/coding and i think unfortunately we will start to see that be implemented in stores in due time. it's just taking time cos it is a lot of work. i would think expiration dates will be the very first thing that we will start to see put into effect for different stores as they roll out that part of programming. because that is a fairly simple if/then flow chart. but the other things are much more complex to program.

trying to write out human decision making in computerese is remarkably complex. our brains are just so magical and do such complex things so simply.

I had such a serious headache last night.. took forever to go to sleep. I think it may be from being out in that heat all day.. finally went to sleep at 1 am and then woke up with the worst stomach pains at 3 am :vomit: so thankful today for the older kids I have at home.. nice to be able to call on them to get up with the 3 year old when I couldn't..

Feeling better now and considering getting something done around here..

sounds like heat exhaustion or heat stroke. pls be more careful next time and make sure you drink lots of liquids.

carpeted stairs needs a beater brush to beat the dust out and bring the pile back up just like regular carpeting. but can't use an upright on the stairs and tight qtrs makes it difficult to use turbo brushes.

i don't think mfrs can really force retailers to spend the money to upgrade their pos system. i think the mfrs that only have the databar and not the upc have probably experienced a lot of fraud, like cesar, whiskas, sally hansen, etc, so they are eager to convert, but who knows.

i've heard that some of the stores of my supermarket chain (co-op so different owners) scan the databar now. haven't heard any surprises or complaints so looks like at least some retailers have implemented it.

one of the reasons to switch to databar was to trace food origins in outbreaks. with the ground turkey salmonella, looks like mfrs need to be more insistent on retailers getting up to speed.

If you do a lot of online purchases you might want to check out freeshipping.com
I have it for $8.97 a month and they cover lots of retailers. They reimburse you up to $10 shipping per shipment - up to $500 a year - 12 times with any one retailer (and once per day with any one retailer). You have to click through their site to order.

They also will pay return shipping for ANY online retailer (whether it was ordered through their site or not) - as long as you use a credit card you had registered with them to order.

I don't use them as much as I could - but I get more than the $107 a year I pay back in shipping.

The pain has been that you had to mail in your claims - but I read on their site that they are changing to let you submit claims online.

jteef1
08-05-2011, 12:12 AM
While I am at it - I like Complete Savings. You know the thing that wants to give you $10 back on your order if you click here thing....

The two I see the most are Complete Savings and Shoppers Discounts and Rewards.

I like Complete Savings. I have actually been a member since 2008. But I pay $12 a month - and I get a monthly bonus of $10 a month on a Pizza purchase. I joined through Pizza Hut - and so I get my monthly bonus for Pizza Hut orders. All I have to do is forward them the confirmation email each month - and they send me a check for $10. AND (drumroll) the order does NOT have to be $10. So you can order a $3 pizza roll thing - and get $10 back. So that pretty much pays for it.

But my favorite part is I get to order 4 $25 gift cards a month for $20 each. I usually get gas cards. So I get $100 worth of gift cards for $80. Heck - if you didn't use that much gas - You could buy $100 in gas cards for $80 - and turn around and sell them to plastic jungle for $92.

I can also order 4 movie tickets a month for $5 each. I don't always use this - but it is nice when I need to. I can get the tickets online - fandango - and they deduct all the fees - and I just pay $5 .

They also give you points for printing coupons. Even if I am not going to use the coupons I print 2 shopping, 2 dining, and 2 attraction coupons every month to cutepdf - and so I get the points. About every four months I can cash the points in for a $25 Visa Card.

So I make WAY over my $12 a month from it.

I always read bad stuff about them - where people said they didn't authorize them to bill their credit card, yadayadayada... but I have been VERY happy.

I actually signed my son up too - but his membership expired because the credit card his was being billed to was canceled when someone tried to use it online (fraud department called me).

But they let him rejoin (and also sent him $50 in Visa Gift Cards he had coming from points in his canceled account).

Now he has to pay $14 per month (instead of $12) - but he gets his $10 monthly bonus from ANY online order. So he doesn't have to do Pizza Hut - he just has to order SOMETHING online - and forward the email. And again - it does not have to cost $10.

I signed up for Shoppers Discounts and Rewards on their trial membership a couple of times. It is the same company - but I don't like them as well. They have the $10 monthly bonus - and the 4 $25 gift cards for $20 - and the movie tickets.... but they don't give the points for printing coupons (which generates about $75 a year on the other program).

But I have joined the trial membership twice - Got my $10 joining bonus - Got my $10 monthly bonus for the two overlapping calendar months within my trial membership period (this time it was June and July) - ordered 8 discount gift cards (again - 4 for two overlapping months) - and then canceled my membership before the trial period ended.

Each time I got everything (the $10 checks and the gift cards) even though I canceled - and they did not bill me.

I just finished my first cup of coffee.. heading back to work today after a week off.. why is it so hard to go back when you have been off? I am sitting here trying to get motivated.

Slept like a rock last night..well, until my DD got into my bed around 6:30 am.. then, I just dozed off and on..

Hoping for a great day at work.. gonna plan some shopping strategies for tomorrow cause I need to hit several stores!

Have a great day everyone

Yeah, I've lost my motivation to work as well, as I'm just trying to find equipment no one else found. I found an item Wed and an item Thurs, so here's hoping for today.

Wed I had a PT appt and stopped and got a salad to take back for lunch. It was over $9  Who knew lettuce was so expensive? I kept the container and took my own salad yesterday and will again today.

don't you hate looking for misplaced items that have been squirreled away? but all that treasure hunting at target is being put to good use at the government since you are finding stuff. :D

and yeah i hate getting ripped off when trying to eat good too. why is an angus third pounder deluxe cheaper than a plastic box of lettuce and a few pieces of tomato and cucumber?

i remember one time i got the wolfgang puck salad at the airport and it was literally a qtr head of shredded cabbage w/ some grilled chicken sprinkled on top. so now if timing is right, i either bring food from home or from the supermarket to bring to the airport and on the plane since they don't feed you anymore. my dh thinks i'm crazy but i was busy eating sushi and guava and cheese pastries on the way home from florida a couple yrs ago while he starved.

need to get my supermarket list together and stop off at target to see if they marked down the toys today.

Funny gg (on the wrench).

PT is tiring, but makes me sleep well because I'm tired. There is only one exercise that hurts, but it looks easy. I'm sitting on a table and they put my right foot with shoe on in a pillowcase. You are supposed to pull the pillowcase towards you, thus pulling the heel towards you as much as possible and then push it away to make the leg go flat, then repeat 19 more times. By number 10 I'm hurting, but I try and finish what they asked me to do.

Today I actually climbed a step 20 times with the right knee being on the step (and the left going up and down). Only a 4 inch step, but first time I've been able to take a step with the right knee in at least 3 years (wasn't strong even before I got hurt, which is why I pushed for PT).

How are you progressing? :woot: on the leg finally going flat!

Can I just start reading the new T deals thread and forget the retired one. Catching up takes awhile :reading:

Gator, congrats on finishing the testing. Try to relax on vacation and Happy Anniversary a few hours early.

i'm really behind on catching up with T deals. i finally gave up and fast forwarded to the last page. :O

so delighted to hear of your PT progress.
ahhh, yes leg extensions. i do them too. bending the knee and extending the knee hurts me, too. but we do it slightly differently:

1. they have me remove my sneakers and be in socks. then sit upright on physical therapy bed (it's vinyl covered) and loop a soft, flat, light nylon exercise band around my foot then slowly pull leg forward towards me. i am required to concentrate on contracting the quad muscle and control the leg movement bringing it up slowly. then extend back as much as i can slowly. the sock slides against the vinyl, so you avoid the shoe resistance. helps a lot. i imagine your pillowcase plays a similar role.
at home, i tried to do it on the hardwood floor with bare feet. that felt good, but getting down on to the floor and then trying to get myself back up with crutches is very very hard. so now i do it on the bed with silky trouser socks.

2. i've now graduated to using the exercise ball for the stretches. lie back, put your sneakered feet on the ball, so that the back of the heel is resting against the ball. i do one set of 10 where i just gently roll the ball towards me using my feet and bending my knees, and then roll the ball back out till my knee is as straight as i can make it. and back and forth, resting after each roll forward/roll back round. the key is to really concentrate on contracting the quad muscle and then really focusing on relaxing and letting it go when extending. the letting go part is hard because the pain impulse is to contract. but my therapist taught me that the more you work on contracting it when pulling, the more your muscle is willing to relax when extending. and that really helps the knee. because with each subsequent contraction, the muscle extends/flexes much more on the next relaxation attempt. after doing 10 of those, i do a set where i push down on the ball with my heels and pull the ball forward, then slide the ball back. this one works the hamstrings, quads and inner thigh muscles. the goal is to do 1 set of 1 kind, then 1 set of the other kind, alternating between each sets for a total of 3 rounds each.
the ball is easier for me than flat extensions, because of the elevation, and because it narurally glides against the bed, so very little resistance.

3. i also the shuttle press machine. you lie down on this bed thing that has springs underneath and put your feet against a metal board. the bed springs are controlled by resistance on the other side of the metal wall. the goal is to push your body back using your legs (so your legs stretch out) and then to slowly glide forward maintaining control, so your legs bend. the shuttle press used to hurt a LOT when i started even with no resistance and for just 5 reps. :O now i can do it on level 2 resistance for 3-4 sets of 10 reps. :D

steps are still very hard for me. but i've been working on wall squats to mimic some of that - back and arms straight against wall, feet firmly planted on floor, slide butt down bending knees slightly, then use your quads, hamstrings and glutes to push yourself back up.

last year at this time i could climb 3 flights of stairs carrying 25 pounds on each arm, while wearing 4 inch heels, and not even break a sweat, no soreness, no shortness of breath. now, i can't go up one step without a crutch, a banister and a railing. ah, the body is an amazing thing.

there, that's more than you ever wanted to know! :O

I think when we get done, we should compare lists. Maybe between the three of us we will discover all the deals!

So - can somebody who knows about hair stuff answer this....

My friend wants me to get some hair stuff for her daughter. her daughter is on the pom squad and they "poof" their hair in the front (supposedly school tradition). Anyway - what does this call for? Gel? Glue? Something else?

The "poofs" are like the picture HERE (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=103367149675516&set=o.2205079741&type=1&theater)

I would think just a barrette and LOTS of hair spray. "Big Sexy Hair" hairspray works great to hold hair in place. But it's expensive.

Hi all ~

Does anyone have a 10% off code for Target.com that they won't be using? I need to order something to ship to my family in FL and as a good SDer, I don't want to pay full-price!!! :)

Thanks in advance!

Dang! The neighbors just knocked on my door around noon and said two kids were stealing my lawn mower and gas can from my storage shed - at noon on a Saturday. The neighbors yelled and told the kids they had called the police - so the kids dropped the stuff and ran. The lawn mower was next to the road and the gas can was in the neighbor's yard. Amazing. This used to be such a safe neighborhood. No problems. Never had to lock anything up. Just a nice, safe place to live.

But some of the neighbors have changed - and I guess the neighborhood has too....

at least the neighbor's caught them. My Brother and SIL had a brand new self propelled Honda push mower disappear from their shed and the theives rolled the riding mower out to the street but couldn't get it started, so they left it there.

Cancer countdown here, hospice nurse said 24-48 hrs. this morning for my father in law. Can't believe how much he has deteriorated in this past week. Lost all appetite, can hardly move, not there mentally and in bed all week. Somehow last night, he managed to get out of bed, get to the bathroom, get half undressed and step into the shower. That's as far as he got until mother in law found him in there. We were visiting and there was no noise or call for help. We had checked him about 30 minutes earlier to make sure he was breathing. He had no idea why he was in the shower and after my husband managed to get him back in bed, he was instantly asleep. We knew then that things are different and it won't be long. Hospice delivered a hospital bed today, so he can't get out again. We shall see.

my sister uses the moroccanoil treatment oil. she loves, loves, loves it. says it is amazing. as a note, she has thick hair, that dries out easily. and she does heat treat it a lot: super hot blow dryer, then super hot flat iron. it leaves her hair soft. so it might be too much for fine hair.
i can't stand it because it is super highly fragranced and gives me a headache. she cannot use it around me, and after she has it in her hair, she can't hug me or come near me for the next 24 hours or so.
she puts it into wet hair and then blow dries. the whole room she's in reeks as she blow dries, so if i'm around her when she's blow drying, the room door has to be shut and i can't enter that room for hours afterward. she opens windows and airs that room out for hours afterwards. :(

ooh, thanks for that - a gift for me the procrastinator. :lmao:

i'm thinking this is one of those things where the first level of implementation was compatibility and readibility. that all store systems can read/scan the new barcode.

next level will be getting store register systems programmed to reject expiration dates, sizes, etc based on barcode info. being able to read that info is just one thing. but in order to make a decision based on the info contained in the barcode, your system needs to be able to run things up against a flow chart and a database. that's a lot of programming/coding and i think unfortunately we will start to see that be implemented in stores in due time. it's just taking time cos it is a lot of work. i would think expiration dates will be the very first thing that we will start to see put into effect for different stores as they roll out that part of programming. because that is a fairly simple if/then flow chart. but the other things are much more complex to program.

trying to write out human decision making in computerese is remarkably complex. our brains are just so magical and do such complex things so simply.
good luck, congrats and have fun!

i don't think mfrs can really force retailers to spend the money to upgrade their pos system. i think the mfrs that only have the databar and not the upc have probably experienced a lot of fraud, like cesar, whiskas, sally hansen, etc, so they are eager to convert, but who knows.

i've heard that some of the stores of my supermarket chain (co-op so different owners) scan the databar now. haven't heard any surprises or complaints so looks like at least some retailers have implemented it.

one of the reasons to switch to databar was to trace food origins in outbreaks. with the ground turkey salmonella, looks like mfrs need to be more insistent on retailers getting up to speed.

Will definitely be interesting to see how it all works out. Hopefully it won't have too huge an impact on us. :crossingmyfingers:

Had a wonderful day today. Did almost $400 in sales, which I am very happy about. But that also means I must replenish... Then we went to a picnic at a church family's house. Ended up being well over 50 people there, once you counted all the kids. Had a wonderful time chatting with other adults and being more than just "Mommy". :) Which don't get me wrong - that is a privilege I don't take lightly, but its nice to step outside that box ever so often.

Now off to wade into the waters of the DS forum, getting ready for tomorrow's sales. :O

Yeah. I didn't think the hair poofed that much.

The girl in the picture named Rachel - that is my friend's daughter. My friend has ALS and can't go shopping anymore. Or she rarely goes. It is a big deal to take her out with the wheelchair, breathing machine, etc.... and now she has to use a machine where she types by blinking on a keyboard with her eyes to talk - which isn't quite equipped to take along - and it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO dang hot here. So they do still take her out from time to time - but not just to pick up a couple things. So I try to pick up deals on what her and her daughter need.

She asked if I could get stuff to style her daughters hair, and makeup wipes before school starts. I asked her daughter what she needed to style her hair - and she told me anything that holds the poof. LOL

She seemed to think the poof was a big deal - and is aggravated by the members of the squad who pretend to poof their hair - but then pin it down. It is apparently a big tradition.

My hair poofs more than that when I sleep.....

But, my cashier was a true jedi and scanned like a champ :)

get some volumizing mousse.
work a little into hair.
then blow dry backwards and up with a big round brush. she'll get plenty of poof.

fair warning, volumizing mousse is generally heat-activated. if you hold a blow dryer close to it and for a few seconds to long, you will FRY HAIR. been there, done that, complete with the smell of burnt hair.

so, use sparingly.

or you can use a volumizing hair spray. spray at the roots and lightly through the strands, then use a blow dryer and a big round brush. too much and hair will become stiff. my hairdresser's hair spray trick: hold one palm by the hair and use the other hand to spray, spraying towards your palm. spray lightly and keep the palm moving, so that the lightest film goes on your hair.

if blow drying with a brush is challenging for them, she can use the volumizing hair spray and then use regular velcro rollers and set hair in that. leave for a while, then remove. get the super large roller. or if they have the ceramic heating rollers (they take 5 mins to heat up, and you use em in your hair for about 5-10 mins), you can use those. just use the hair spray and set into the big roller. remove in a few minutes (don't over do or you'll fry hair) and you're good.

happy poofing and thanks for being such a kind person.

fair warning, volumizing mousse is generally heat-activated. if you hold a blow dryer close to it and for a few seconds to long, you will FRY HAIR. been there, done that, complete with the smell of burnt hair.

so, use sparingly.

or you can use a volumizing hair spray. spray at the roots and lightly through the strands, then use a blow dryer and a big round brush. too much and hair will become stiff. my hairdresser's hair spray trick: hold one palm by the hair and use the other hand to spray, spraying towards your palm. spray lightly and keep the palm moving, so that the lightest film goes on your hair.

if blow drying with a brush is challenging for them, she can use the volumizing hair spray and then use regular velcro rollers and set hair in that. leave for a while, then remove. get the super large roller. or if they have the ceramic heating rollers (they take 5 mins to heat up, and you use em in your hair for about 5-10 mins), you can use those. just use the hair spray and set into the big roller. remove in a few minutes (don't over do or you'll fry hair) and you're good.

happy poofing and thanks for being such a kind person.

.
Wow! I should just print this out and take it to her. ;)

Makes me want to poof my own hair:lol:

Is anyone getting any of the Nabisco cookies or crackers with the B3G1 Target Q. I see there is a coupon for $3 off 4 in my local grocery store ad. HERE (http://www.shopnsave.com/sns-webapp/ads/displayAd.do?ad_content_id=2768&page_number=7&storesSel=1773&ad_set_name=Weekly%20Advertisements&active_date=08/07/2011&expire_date=08/13/2011&storeName=Carlyle&seqNumber=7). I can't see the expiration date - and their coupons don't print worth a darn from the online ad - but if someone is on a cookie / cracker buying mission - I could probably get some hard copies.

morning! :wave2: rainy day here today. guess we aren't going to the county fair this yr.

My Brother and SIL had a brand new self propelled Honda push mower disappear from their shed and the theives rolled the riding mower out to the street but couldn't get it started, so they left it there.

what's wrong w/ people these days?

We shall see.

sorry!

Yeah. I didn't think the hair poofed that much.

i thought we were talking snooki-sized poofs but that's nothing. a little aquanet and a barrette and should be good to go.

I know the feeling! A woman in our building was attacked right outside our door this past Thursday night... Attempted rape. Thank God she got away, as she was able to fight him off. They caught the bastard today. I was so relived! Apparently he was wanted for three different attacks in neighboring towns.

 omg! so glad they caught the guy!

 morning

too late of a night working matchups in the Kroger thread (how's that for excitement!)

For those with little ones, Wags is the place this week for Huggie Wipes refills (3 pk). $5.99 and use both the $2/1 IVC in the August monthly book and $2/1 IVC in the baby book (if you have it) and the 50/1 MQ if you have it. I bought 4 sets last night (great-nephew is a :baby:), we didn't get the MQ, but 4 3pk refills for under $10 was great in my book (and I pay pre-coupon tax).

Bad way to start the week. I accidentally ran over a campfire log with my riding lawn mower! It's stuck under the deck with the blade stuck half way thru it! :omg:

Now I need a way to figure out how to raise the lawn mower up so I can get underneath. might have to use a tire jack or something. This is one of the rare times I wish I had a man around the house.

I am going to work on figuring out how to secure my storage shed today. It hasn't locked since 2007. It is just one of those little metal sheds. My husband's daughter's husband's father (Whew! does that make us related?)broke the lock thingie off. The latch is on one side of the door, but the little knob the latch goes over isn't on the other side.

How well I remember that day. The day after my husband's funeral - and my stepdaughter asked if she could come by and pick up the grandfather clock my husband gave her. I should have said no - not yet. But I said they could come. OMG! They showed up with several people, a pick up truck, a flat bed trailer and started pilfering through my house - taking whatever they wanted. Someone wanted my husband's motors scooter - which was in the storage shed. They kept asking where the key was. I really didn't know. So they just broke the lock on the shed and took it. And they took lots and lots of stuff. It was such a horrible day. One day my husband was buried and the next day his daughter's family was looting my house in front of my eyes - and I was too stunned to even know what to do....except cry a lot....

Somehow, even though I was appalled that someone tried to steal my lawn mower - there is a sense of comfort in knowing that the people stealing from me are strangers, instead of family / friends.

Last night I just chained the lawn mower to my chain link fence gate with a bicycle chain. I think they would look a little more conspicuous walking down the road with a lawn mower and dragging a big gate.

Am thinking of painting my mower hot pink - but I don't know if my son will want to mow the lawn any more  (as if he wants to now...)

Wet Wipes in bts section .99 - 1.00/2mq in pepperidge farm bun peelie - .50tq = free plus tax
Post-it in bts - 1.00 mq = free plus tax (like i need any more since i still have from last yr)

Pepperidge Farm and Wonder bread on tpc + eggs - 1.00 sandwich bread/egg tq = ok deal. if you buy 2 pepperidge farm breads you could use the 1.00/2 peelie (i will be doing this one next time i go to target but i don't need 2 breads)

clearance jeans - 5.00tq = cheap but you probably have an overabundance from the last tq
(the black pr i got feel funky b/c there is too much polyester so i need another pr)

pisses me off the eggs at the nearest target are 1.59 and the other target is 1.39. the extra gas is just not worth driving an extra few miles to save .20 so maybe i'll just wait till later in the wk when i go to the supermarket since i still have sandwich buns. but i want the eggs now!

I don't do grocery store eggs most of the year. We have a neighbor that has free range organic chickens and I buy my eggs from here. You would kill for some of her veggies about now. DH says the tomatoes are the very best. I can't remember what kind they are, but I just tried some of the onions they are growing this year. When I cleaned it, it didn't burn my eyes and it didn't even have an onion smell, but, oh, my was it good.
so not impressed w/ tyson buffalo chicken strips. mushiest chicken i ever ate! almost wonder if there was a delivery problem. No, it's not a delivery problem. DH won't eat Tyson chicken for that very reason. It's always mushy. It's speculated that the reason is because of the feed. Ethanol has driven the price of feed corn sky high - which is why all food costs have escalated. When they make ethanol there is a by product -- distillers grain. They are feeding it to their chickens. So, yeah, after they turn corn into ethanol, they feed the garbage to the chickens. And then feed the chickens to you.

Only one of the many reasons we absolutely refuse to use any gasoline that contains ethanol. I shall hush now, so I don't get started...

there are people who sell eggs around here but i don't trust them. also tomatoes and some other veggies. there are a couple pick your own farms w/in 15 minutes of my house that also sell even more fruits and veggies. the closer one is expensive and doesn't sell watermelon and cantaloupe so i like to go to the further one.

there also is an amish farmers market thurs-sat that sells some local produce which can be very good. we try to go the last saturday of the month for the pig roast and then i'll also pick up delicious fresh pickles, cole slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad and some fresh fruit and veggies. sometimes some old-fashioned pastries or a pie if we are visiting someone. they have some nice deli meats too. that place can be packed on the wknds.

went to the farmers market yesterday and got a beautiful sweet yellow watermelon, onions and peaches. last yr we ate way too many onions from the farmers market and the bottoms of our feet started hurting. very weird. both me and dh. cut out the onions and the problem went away. it just worked out that yesterday was the first time i've gone this yr. saw many beautiful fruits and veggies. the further pick your own farm also has a stand at the farmers market. so most of the time i just wait till saturday for more variety from a bunch of local farms.

so when i saw my friend yesterday who normally organizes going peach picking, i said i wanted to go next wk. guess what? think i'm now the one organizing it.

By number 10 I'm hurting, but I try and finish what they asked me to do.
i'm really behind on catching up with T deals. i finally gave up and fast forwarded to the last page. :O (snip)

last year at this time i could climb 3 flights of stairs carrying 25 pounds on each arm, while wearing 4 inch heels, and not even break a sweat, no soreness, no shortness of breath. now, i can't go up one step without a crutch, a banister and a railing. ah, the body is an amazing thing.

I didn't want them following me across the road. I can look out my picture window where I'm sitting and see them wandering around up there.

Thanks.

 I bet that was some site!!!

I grew up on a farm - and LOVED eggs! The store bought eggs have very little flavor. Of course, I grew up drinking raw milk too (straight from the cow - after being cooled). One of the nice things about growing up on a farm was meat, milk, eggs, veggies were abundant.

My greatest treat was getting to eat boxed food - like fish sticks...

Yeah. The cream always settles on the top. Dad always liked to pour the cream off for his cereal - and get aggravated when one of us grabbed the milk first and shook it and mixed the cream in.

We had this huge cooler - that had paddles that kept stirring the milk. Sometimes the cream would start getting whipped in there. My uncle made the very best butter in the world. :licklips:

we had milk cows growing up - just for our family.
we'd get fresh, warm raw whole milk in buckets. i can't stand the smell of milk - raw or heated, or cooled -- cos of lactose intolerance, but for those who liked it, it was heaven. we always had fresh homemade butter, homemade buttermilk, homemade yogurt, fresh cream.
it was clean-tasting, sweet, full-bodied milk. no worries about hormones, antibiotics, animal-laced feed, pesticides and other noxious nonsense people have to worry about now.

then dad bought a dairy.
seriously - they made some of the best cream and butter. it was in such high demand, there was a waitlist. the top chefs all got the cream, butter, milk etc from that dairy. and it was so awesomely old-fashioned: glass bottles, with thick aluminum foil caps, delivered in wire baskets. the truck would arrive early AM. mum made dad put us on the list :lmao: to get several bottles of fresh cream each week so she could make desserts and churn butter.

dad took us on tours of the dairy. the smell made me gag. so i went and sat in the car for several hours :lmao: while everyone else marveled.

also not impressed at all w/ the rubbermaid reveal mop. doesn't pick up anything. just pushes the dust and hair around still around after vacuuming. never had this problem w/ any other mop. who tested these things b4 they put it out on the market???

Slowtech... the rubbermaid reveal mop has two "heads" for it... the red one is used when you use the spray bottle. The dust mop head is white, with "mop fringe" all the way around it. The mop itself only comes with the red-colored head, but Target does sell the white one separately. I hope that helps!

Just popping by to say hello.. and vent my frustration for the night.. I have been trying to get my DD to sleep for almost 2 hours :( getting on my last nerve I tell ya :headbang:
I am trying to get everyone back on schedule with school starting back. I thought tonight would be so easy because she played so hard this afternoon.. As soon as she started acting tired, we did the bed time routine with a story, brushing, potty, etc. She was in the bed quiet for 30 minutes and then got up out of the bed and we have been fighting every since.. uugh!

Okay, back to getting things done.. making my lunch and getting it packed for tomorrow.

Have a great night everyone

do the supernanny method: no fighting, no negotiation, no placating. bed time is a firm thing. you say goodnight, you tuck her in, and then she can't come out of her room or out to the living room, or down the stairs or what have you. nope.

if she cries/fusses/screams at the top of her lungs, you will just have to go on :whistlin: as though you hear nothing.

sounds heartless and horrible, i know. and it's very hard to do first few days. but it works, and works awesomely.

if you give in and go to placate/argue/discuss/fight then she wins, and you lose your authority as a parent when it comes to bedtime. so, no negotiations.

Yep.. been doing that.. over and over again,

She gets up, opens the door, comes down the hall, and I take her straight back.. done that atleast 10 times already... I hesitate to say it... but, I *think* she may be down..

I think maybe she was over tired.. gonna try 30 minutes earlier tomorrow :)

Weird thing is.. we usually don't have this problem, but we usually start later in the evening.. I know it is just gonna take a little while to get used to the earlier bed time.. I am gonna get her up a few minutes earlier in the morning too..

no TV allowed. remotes off-limit or hidden.
no toys allowed. they're sleeping. you can't disturb them.
no going downstairs allowed, either.

if she comes out of her room and calls out to you to go places, or comes up to you: you just look at her once and say "go back to bed. it is your bed time. you are not allowed to play anymore or watch tv anymore.i am counting to 10. if you don't go back to bed, you're grounded or in time out"

then no more paying attention to her.
you'll probably get some wailing and screaming and whining.
just ignore.

full scale histrionics might ensue. make sure you have ear plugs close at hand :lmao: then ignore.

Dude, if you would just duct tape that kid in her bed we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Hang in there mama. Getting back in the swing of things is tricky. I would FOR SURE wake her up early tomorrow. It usually takes us 3 days to get the kids back into their regular bedtime/wake up time routine when the shenanigans of summer come to an end.

When I first bought this mop I loved it, for all the obvious reasons. No extra bottle of cleaning solution to carry around. Microfiber washable cloth.

But then I used it once a week for a few months. The nozzle clogs and it does not spray in a dispersed area, it trickles out and I have to press the spray trigger 3 or 4 times to get enough on the floor to wash. That tires my hand out surprisingly. The next issue is the microfiber cloth, does not catch the dirt like one would assume, but it pushes it around into a nice line that I have to bend down and wipe up with a paper towel.

I will stick with my cotton cloth mop and hand held spray bottle.

I purchased this mop in January and it broke in July. If I pushed too hard trying to scrub a stubborn spot the mop head would fall off, then recently the plastic piece that holds the head to the handle shattered. I disliked how the trigger would only spray a tiny bit of solution out for each pull. It was more expensive than the Swiffer WetJet but I figured I'd save money in the long run by not needing to buy replacement pads or name-brand cleaner. From day one the mop only ever pushed dirt around, I would push it all into one spot then use a paper towel to finish the job. Even after cleaning the microfiber it would never actually pick anything up. After a couple of uses, I knew I had made a mistake, i'd rather pay more for Swiffer pads that do the job than use the Rubbermaid mop! Now that it's done for, I can move on to something better... R.I.P. Rubbermaid Reveal. Gave two stars for a nobel effort to help consumers be economical, just needs extra work at the drawing board.

i vacuum and then i wet mop w/ the red mop pad. i know other people have complained about the same thing. ....

we have just taken to using our swiffer pads and cloths (i love the disposable feature: ive always hated cleaning mop heads, sponges etc, and always found them to be really unhygienic), and a spray bottle of 7th Gen multipurpose thyme and lemongrass cleaner.

the 7th gen is nontoxic. cleans beautifully. the smell is just a strong smell of thyme (i hated it in the beginning but am now used to it) and dissipates within minutes. it is naturally antibacterial. and best of all, i don't have to worry about spraying it near food, dishes; or worry about fragrance allergies; or better yet, worry about the toxic stuff constantly getting on to feet, skin, legs etc.

so here's what i do one room at a time:

i sweep the kitchen floor with microfiber cloth attached to a swiffer sweeper.
then i spray the floor with a thin layer of 7th gen. put away the spray bottle.
then i go to town with the swiffer wetjet with a pad attached. wipe, trash pad in plastic bag (in the case of kitchen, bathrooms, foyer). onto next room for sweeping, wiping routine.

of course, i haven't done any of this in close to 8 months, because i cannot yet do the sweeping action with my arm. housecleaning has been sorely neglected. we have cruddy floors thanks to my housework-phobic tribe.

Whew! I just took a full trash bin out to the road. I have been watching Hoarders You Tube clips to keep me inspired. I promised myself that I would fill the trash bin this week. It is kind of hard - because I do not throw away anything that can be used, donated, recycled, etc. etc.

So no papers, plastic bags, cardboard, plastic, glass, clothes that can be worn, clothes that can be used for rags, food the critters will eat... It doesn't leave much to throw out - but I did fill the bin - AND the paper bin - AND the plastic / glass recycle bin.

In my town we can recycle for free - but we pay for the amount of trash we throw out. A sheet of 5 stickers cost around $13.50 - and it takes two stickers for the trash bins. So if I am going to pay $5 to throw the stuff away - I am going to make sure my bin is full...

Howdy, mamselles! :wave2:

GG, I just throw the mop heads in with the regular laundry. I imagine that causes a few of you to cringe, but it works for me! I've been using up all my swiffer stuff (and even some old Clorox mop supplies) in between uses of the Reveal mop. I'm now ready to start using the Reveal full time.

The one thing I do not like about the mop is that the bottle/bottle holder makes it much more difficult to get under furniture. It can be done, but not nearly as easily and as efficiently as the Swiffer.

And I do have that problem with the "lines" of dirt that the Reveal can leave. I figure it's worth it for the convenience of not buying refills of any sort.

I'm in the middle of a tooth implant. The main implant was 11 days ago, just before my birthday. What a lovely way to spend money. It was not a bad procedure at all, although when he went to ratchet down the implant I got tickled at the idea of him having to ratchet anything at all inside my mouth. What I do dislike about the whole thing is the danged sutures. At least they're coming out today, and my tongue won't have to worry about them any longer. After the site is healed in three months, I'll get the "connector" screwed into the implant. He'll then take an impression for the crown, and I'll get that two weeks later. Sometime in early to mid-November I'll finally have my molar back after having been without it since April.

I enjoy reading all your posts, GG - jteef - slowtech, and hope you are all having the best summer possible.

Our heat wave finally broke here, which means I may actually have to go out in the yard and do some work. Please say it ain't so!

ok, so it's not just me having this problem. i think they just need to use better quality microfiber material on the mop pad which will probably happen in another yr or 2 since they dominate the market and it's a *green* method of cleaning which is becoming more and more popular.

i think i need to send them an email. feedback does eventually work. long time ago i complained to pantene about the shape of their hairspray bottles. i complained to 3M about the head of the bathroom scrubber always coming unscrewed and i sent them other reviews complaining of the same thing. they changed the design of their products about 6 months later. probably one of the reasons stuff gets reset all the time. i just wish they would send me a free product when they redesign it. they do not always refund your money. 3M just sent me another one which worked better but i would have preferred the new and improved version i saw in target 6 months later.

you can also hand wash the mop pad which is probably much easier than rinsing out a string mop or sponge mop. i have a dust mop for the hard wood that also needs to be laundered. so i very slowly put together a load of microfiber cloths and mop pads and do a separate load for cleaning paraphernalia.

good luck w/ the implant. my dad had one done several yrs ago. he had partial dentures from a very young age from eating too much candy. so that's why among other reasons i'm very into doing as much as possible to keep the teeth you have.

Up to my ears in boxes....full ones.....running out of empty ones but MIL is supposed to bring me some more tomorrow or Weds. After my house gets cleaned tomorrow the real fun of boxes all over gets to begin.

I condensed my six separate to-do lists down in to one this AM and then I felt better

OH, and GG, sorry but I'm with l2b.....part of the Super Nanny method IS to put them back into their bed....you just do it w/o eye contact, any emotion, no show of frustration, anything. So basically they get zero positive reinforcement. You just act as the robot and eventually they figure out that it's no fun. Some stubborn kids are of course gonna take longer than others! We did this with my dd (we actually sat in the room, emotionless, and put her back in the bed right as she would get out....can't remember if we got that part from SN or if she just had you stay right outside the door or what) but it worked because it was dark in there and she didn't have time to open the door, etc. because right back in the bed she went!! And because it was dark she really couldn't see our faces anyway. Not to mention I don't know many families that don't have at least a few toys or books, etc. in their kids rooms....we don't have room here to really do it any other way feasibly. The most important thing is that they get very little to no reaction from the parent - that's what they want most of the time. Putting them back in the bed with no show of emotion reinforces what you want them to do w/o giving them too much reaction to feed off of.

l2b - hope things go better tonight!! I bet it is just a time thing like you said - her body will adjust too!

Nope, doesn't sound cruel.. I am just not sure how that would work :scratchh::scratchh: If i didn't take her back to bed, she would just literally stay up and watch TV, play with toys, or go downstairs and never go to sleep..

:lmao: or a benadryl gun
Or my lovely friend, melatonin.

I was never able to handle crying it out, it made me cry with them. Then came the two with severe sleep issues and even that didn't work. My now 9 year old son was awake (meaning, I was awake) for 2.5 days straight when I was trying to reset his internal sleep clock. He was not even 3 at the time.

Howdy, mamselles!

GG, I just throw the mop heads in with the regular laundry. I imagine that causes a few of you to cringe, but it works for me! ....
I'm in the middle of a tooth implant. T....
I enjoy reading all your posts, GG - jteef - slowtech, and hope you are all having the best summer possible.

Our heat wave finally broke here, which means I may actually have to go out in the yard and do some work. Please say it ain't so!

yeah, can't do mop heads with regular laundry here. our floors get super cruddy, so i have to clean em separately or toss em out, preferably toss em out. you generally don't even want to look at the mop head after i am done. :omg:
i found though, for those of you that have a Rite Aid near you: they sell the generic version of swiffer pads. Those are far cheaper and work like a charm! I've heard stayfree maxi pads do the same, but somehow I don't see myself doing that. :omg:

implant... hope that goes swimmingly well with little to no pain. and that you have a fab rest of the summer. :blowkiss:

 morning

Dr appt this morning for knee surgery followup.

TN, praying for great news and great progress for you!

Happy Monday all :wave2:

I just bought those water bottles GG. It's so stinking hot here until October, the kids need a lot of water stashed in their backpacks and this is a great deal. Way cheaper than SIGG bottles so if they lose one, it's not as big of a deal.
....

glad you found the deal useful! that was exactly my thought on the bottles: dented, lost? no problem! and it allows me to wash out the bottles, fill with water and refrigerate, so there are always bottles available on-the-go for outings etc.

at home, i have glass pitchers i got at T or maybe dollar tree or Maxx, I can't remember where. But they were cheap. They're not super big and heavy, so easy for everyone to pour water into their glasses/cups. I fill em up and put em in each room. we're drinking a lot more water this way, i found.

weeeeeee heeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!! 10 days out :yahoo:

Up to my ears in boxes....full ones.....running out of empty ones but MIL is supposed to bring me some more tomorrow or Weds. After my house gets cleaned tomorrow the real fun of boxes all over gets to begin.

I condensed my six separate to-do lists down in to one this AM and then I felt better

i am so excited for you on the house move! kudos on list consolidation. that's the best feeling, crossing things off lists and watching it grow smaller!

supernanny method - whatever works for different families, I guess. for us the no eye contact etc method you described, PLUS the no physical interaction/no perks thing I was talking about has been successful.
at any rate, i totally agree with you: i hope things go smoother with the kidlets in the l2b home tonight!

I feel like I have been gone forever and a day!

TN - how did the appt. go? I hope you are feeling better. Please let me know if you need anything!

Cpngirl - Congratulations!!

Lisa - how is Trevor? I've been praying for your family.

TM4D - I keep looking at the ana-white website and daydreaming about all the nifty projects I want to do with our new house!! LOL! I need some power tools for Christmas I think!!

I've also been looking up exotic plants and daydreaming about our fancy-schmancy yard (the one I have planned in my head... lol.) I think I can make us go broke on plants if I try. Okay, i wouldn't really have to try... I just could.

Anyway! I miss ya'll!! I need to go cut the grass (joys of home ownership, eh?), but I will be back! And more often...

 To everyone!

I can tell you, I spent years *feeling* like a zombie. Does that count?

Tomorrow I have a 2-3 hour appt for the dental bridge and I'm completely dreading it. :O Basically it will be like having 2 crowns done at one time. It's long past time, the tooth that is being replaced was pulled in Aug 2010, and yeah just now getting around to doing this. Going to the dentist gives me anxiety, even with all the work I have already had done so I know what to expect and it wasn't really all *that* bad but still, I don't want to go.

:wave2: all. Thanks for all the nice thoughts. Sitting here at the inlaws still, been here most of the time for days now. It's been just over 48 hours now, and f-i-l is still here. Mentally he's pretty much gone and just on morphine. He's had no food and only water drops since Saturday. This is the first time I've watched someone go like this, it is very sad but also very interesting to witness what the body/mind goes through. He has said some strange things and we'll never be able to really know what he was trying to convey to us. I don't think he knows who we are now. We've all accepted this now and are just waiting, he's in charge now and nothing to do but wait.

 My thoughts and prayers are with you. I believe there is often a letting go process. People often have to spend some time getting ready. The day before my husband died - he told me "I probably won't be able to talk to you in awhile." I asked him "Why?" He said "Because of where I am going." I asked "Where are you going?" He said "The same place I went last night." I asked "Are you coming back?" He said "I hope so. I am not going there voluntarily." I didn't ask - but I would assume the fact that he told me he woudn't be able to talk to me if he went back there - that he had been aware of me being there - but wasn't able to communicate.

Hello everyone :wave2: worked a very long day today.

Hope your days were filled with great shopping trips. I am hoping to go tomorrow :)

DH did bedtime tonight while I worked. He started a little earlier and fought for quite awhile but managed to get her down by 1045. He gave in and rocked her several times but I am proud of him for doing as well as he did. He would normally have her up waiting on me at midnight when I get home from work. I am off the next 2 nights so I know we are gonna make progress!

Morning

Late night plus early morning means mom is so sleepy today.. need more coffee!

So, this new schedule isn't working too well for me so far  I climbed into bed around 1:45.. drifted off after 2 and DD was up at 6:45  I am trying not to get discouraged.. I know it may just take a few days for her body to get into some kind of routine.. I am *not* a morning person, which is partly due to the fact that I work evening shift.. I can do 8 am or so, but before 7 isn't too great for me.. But, all is well cause I am off tonight and can try to go to bed earlier :) I think something just woke her up this morning :dontknow: she is in a great mood though. She is playing and just came running into the living room laughing and telling me that "daddy is naked".. apparantly DH just got up and was only wearing his undies.. to her not wearing a shirt means you are naked
