This is my last at work, I received a letter and had a talk with VP. I am fired.
Don't feel bad for me yet, I have a new company's HR putting the package for me the same time. So, technically, I still have one more week left, but I will go to the new place next Monday.:yummy:

So people, one more example that connections are important.

That sucks... I saw from your earlier thread you were worried about it.

At least you have something else lined up tho!

If you can sign on as the local admin & delete your whole user profile that's even better. ;)

Sorry to hear you got fired but good job for already having something lined up. A lot of people just collect unemployment and complain about the crappy hand they have been dealt.

well, maybe I should say "I got laid off". I don't want to be transferred to another group. honestly they did not give me the option either, I was on the list of "let go". The new one located on congress street. So I can't enjoy the restaurants in backbay area anymore.

This is illegal. Just a heads up to everyone who could be leaving a job in weird circumstances, do not do this. Depending on what happens to your company (or what happens to you) you can face fairly substancial punishment. Do. Not. Ever. Do. This.

Let's say your an accountant and perform some of the suggested "clean up". Let's say in two years there is a huge case (could be anything, for this one let's say you work in the push-pin industry) involving your (former) company and how they dealt with an issue. Could be an environmental issue, could be not paying their bills, could be not paying their taxes; could be anything. Let's say it was related to your function, and you were working at the time when the "event" took place. An investigation takes off, and you are identified as potentially relevant. Hopefully the company still has your email and all of your records (they could be in big trouble if they don't). Let's say they were smart enough to keep an image of your hard drive. The hard drive would be seized, the evidence of purposeful data deletion arose. At the very least you would be in the middle of a huge legal headache and probably have to stand trial (or at least make a written statement). Depending on your agreement with your former company (and depending on the nature of the situation) they may not be obligated to provide you with legal services. So at the very least you would have to seek counsel and pay dollas. At the very worst you could become liable of spoliation.

Most companies do not have proper data retention policies in check, and even if they do they do a horrible job of informing their employees. An instance like the hypothetical above is very rare (when you count the entire workforce), but happens all the time. The hypothetical is also extremely simplified, so please do not quote me on legal accuracy. The point I'm trying to make is that it can potentially become a big giant deal to purposely delete work related files. I understand that not everyone is a top-level executive, but the biggest issue in the Enron scandal was document retention. Literally everything electronic that happens involving your workplace is a "document". IM on a work computer? Document. text message on a company provided phone? Document. Browsing history on a company provided laptop (even while your browsing at home)? Document. The laws are very complicated, vary state to state, and near impossible for any one person to understand. Because of this it is best to treat your last weeks at work like any other day.

I don't think website cookies are part of what's required in most data retention policies.
